An annual fair featuring local Letterpress printers and book artists, suppliers of letterpress equipment and type, ephemera, rarities, broadsides, cards and more! Many vendors will offer ¬Ëœscratch and dent' items at bargain prices!
The early birds pay a $2 fee for first look at one of kinds. A 5 x 7 Kelsey Tabletop press and accessories will be for sale - perfect for a new printer to get started! You'll also have a chance to meet experts, see demos, find resources offered by various print shops and get a tour of the Em Space Book Arts Center which is located at the start of the Spring Water Corridor Trail (Come by Bicycle if you aren't looking for a press!!)
Last year, the event was a huge success drawing hundreds of people interested in finding old type, actual table-top presses, beautifully printed keepsakes, and bargain bin steals.
Portland has a huge number of letterpress printers and many schools and organizations that offer letterpress workshops. The fine art of printing by hand is highly appreciated in the form of band posters, wedding invites, book and zine covers, cd packaging, stationery, fine art prints and so much more. You just can't get the same look from a computer, and in the case of the table-top variety letterpress, you don't even need a cord to plug in!
The letterpress scene in Portland continues to grow and become one of the biggest letterpress printing hubs in the nation. In the last couple of years, Em Space Book Arts Center has set their roots in the community by offering artists access to rare equipment, Portland publishing staple, the IPRC, continues to offer low-cost, beginners letterpress courses, Oregon College of Art and Craft has expanded their campus and improved their facilities, and C.C. Stern Type Foundry's new operative letterpress museum is now open with monthly open hours. Local printer, and Em Space studio member, Kyle Durrie of Power and Light Press, began her Moveable Type Truck Adventure right here in Portland.
