Pull out the straw hat for a special neighborhood dinner on August 28 at Stonegate and 19th Street Farms with seven dishes prepared by Chef Pascal Chureau of Allium Bistro, and wine poured by neighborhood winemakers Molly and Darrel Roby of Ribera Vineyards (located down the street).

Partakers will work up a hearty appetite strolling through the farm, on a tour guided by expert lavender farmer, Sarah Bader, while sipping away on a tall glass of lavender lemonade, or cool, crisp Ribera Pinot Gris. The scent of fresh lavender, arugula, and greens ready the palate for Farmer Miles’ famous tomato tasting before participants make their way to Allium’s community tables in the field. There, they will relax over seven fresh courses, each crafted from ingredients harvested straight from the farm and prepared over the rustic barbeque fired up alongside the community tables.

Nestling in for some good talk, diners might languor in the lively gypsy notes of the Djangophiles strumming nearby. Or they might find themselves entertained by the chickens clucking along in the field and feel the last of high summer in each bite of heirloom tomato, as they talk late into the evening.

Guests are invited to gather for the Farm Tour at 5:30, followed by Dinner in the Field at 6, where guests gather around community tables filled with family and friends.

Farm fresh food. Music. Wine. The American dream….or wait, maybe I dream it become the new American dream.

  8.   Jack Says:

Nothing but support for the community. and it doesn’t get much fresher than the farm itself!

  9.   Tiffany Says:

Fresh food straight from the farm? Pick me! My farmer boyfriend broke up with me this spring, my stomach yearns for fresh produce again. Nom nom nom.

  10.   Anjuli Says:

I’m shortly moving to Alaska, where fresh produce means iceberg lettuce and green, watery tomatoes. Let me enjoy summer’s bounty before it eludes me for a few years.

  11.   Emily Says:

    Love it!

  12.   Wallace Says:

At a personal level food is what sustains us on a daily basis; at a regional level agriculture is still the backbone of our economy in spite of increasing challenges facing farmers. What could be more central to our lives, or a more obvious place to start in rebuilding the vitality of our communities, than a healthy, sustainable, local food system.

This sounds like a great example and I would love to be a part of it.

  13.   Amy Says:

This is the first year since 2008 that we’re able to attend a farm dinner after hubby recovering from open heart surgery. We sure miss these events!

  16.   Hilary A Says:

The Allium family of plants includes onions, garlic, shallots and leeks, as well as gorgeous purple pompom ornamental flowers. That which is beautiful is also savory and delicious. This event is not just about eating and drinking, but in celebrating the cycle of food from its genesis to its life-sustaining purpose to its place in the community as well as to one’s individual gustatory aesthetic.

Food brings us together, and where better than Metro’s little gem of a city, West Linn. I would love to raise a glass and toast the harvest with newly made friends. Thank you Allium, for such a creative and sensually appealing event. I would love to toast the harvest with some lavendar lemonade!

  44.   Andrea Says:

This is one of the most awesome ideas Portlanders have come up with lately!! We certainly are trendsetters, even with something so simple as getting back to our roots! Growing up on a farm at the base of Mt. Hood gave me so many great memories as a child. I’d love to warm my heart with memories & take a tour of their farm:)

I’d like to surprise my boyfriend with a really fancy dinner for our anniversary, and this would be ideal!

  50.   Bianca Says:

My husband just moved here from England where he had never tasted fresh vegetables! He has since tasted some very delicious organic farm fresh veggies and meats and surprises himself on how much he enjoys eating new foods prepared in new ways (ie:not deep fried). It would be a very fun experience for us both to come out and enjoy this event.
