September 8, 2011 — PDXPIPELINE
The 2011 TBA Festival opens tonight. If you have never been the the Works free night at Washington High School in SE Portland (event info), let me prepare you…It’s going to be packed. The 90+ degree weather might keep people from arriving early, but usually it is long lines around dark. You definitely want to be there to see the “ON SIGHT Visual Art Opening” at 8PM and Bounce legend Vockah Redu at 11. Don’t worry drinkers, there is a beer garden out there and food carts.

TONIGHT AT TBA: OPENING NIGHT
From Today’s TBA Press Release:
This is it. After months of preparations, the Time-Based Art Festival is ready. The artists have arrived, the galleries are installed, the beer garden is constructed. Tonight is the moment it all becomes real. TBA is summer’s last hurrah. It’s a fall arts season worth of highlights packed into one glorious week. It’s an adventure with friends. Don’t miss a single moment.
8:00 pm – ON SIGHT Visual Art Opening
The flagpole at Washington High School is the place to be at 8 o’clock, because once we raise Tesar Freeman’s Gadsden flag, it all begins. We open the school to the ON SIGHT visual art galleries, featuring Halsey Rodman’s boldly hued sculpture and light installation, YOUNG-HAE CHANG HEAVY INDUSTRIES newest Flash animation, and the unveiling of Claire Fontaine’s matchstick map of the United States. Through it all, Japan’s Ho Ho-Do x DJs will perform pop-up dances to wandering DJs and Brazil’s Michel Groisman will gather the crowds for his interactive performance games.
10:00pm – David Eckard: ©ardiff
Then, let David Eckard entice you to venture outside to the high school lawn with his sideshow pitch on one of the greatest hoaxes ever committed: The Cardiff Giant. From his portable stage and carnival cart, Eckard will channel the midway barker and snakeoil salesman. There’s a sucker born every minute…
11:00pm – THE WORKS Free Opening Night: Vockah Redu and Beyondadoubt
And when you come back inside, we’ll be ready to party. THE WORKS kicks off in true dirty South style with New Orleans’ own Vockah Redu & the Cru. Vockah will storm the stage with his sissy bounce raps and booty-shaking beats. Dance to the late summer heat with the euphoric TBA crowds, and then meet us in the beer garden, where we’ll be taking in the stars over the school and planning out the week to come.
