Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne In Portland For Exclusive Release Of “I Found This Star On the Ground” With Strobotrip Toy | Jackpot Records

Falming Lips Strobotrip Toy

Just got this email from Jackpot about exclusive release of “THE” 6-hour song: “I Found This Star On the Ground” with Strobotrip toy. This will be a big deal for sure in a town almost as in love with the Flaming Lips as Oklahoma City is. Actually, having lived in both, Portland loves them more…but the Flaming Lips probably love us second, which is not bad.

Bagdad Theater

Girls Inc. of Northwest Oregon is hosting the premiere screening of the provocative documentary film Miss Representation, presented by Mark & Ann Edlen & Family. Written and directed by actress, filmmaker and former First Lady of San Francisco, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, Miss Representation exposes how mainstream media contribute to the under-representation of women in positions of power and influence in America.

The film challenges the media's limited and often disparaging portrayals of women and girls, which make it difficult for women to achieve leadership positions and for the average woman to feel powerful herself.

The event begins at 5:30 p.m. with a hosted reception. The 90-minute film will begin at 6:45 p.m., followed by a panel conversation about the local implications of the issues explored in the film, and particularly the repercussions for girls. The trailer for the film can be viewed at www.missrepresentation.org. Read the rest of this entry »

It’s been a rags to riches glory ride, an emotional rollercoaster, an all action, all-star blockbuster. Three young Dubliners took on the world, with music fashioned from the emotional detritus of their own hard lives raised up by a love of pop, rock, hip hop and soul. In two years they notched up a handful of hit singles, including ¬ËœWe Cry’, ¬ËœBreakeven’ and ¬ËœThe Man Who Can’t Be Moved’. Their 2008 debut album, ¬ËœThe Script’, went to number one in the UK and Ireland, approaching 2 million world wide sales.

The Script are songwriters of the first order, combining thoughtful, heartfelt lyrics with lush melodies. They have fielded numerous requests to write for other artists (including Beyonce and James Blunt), preferring instead to focus on each other.
