H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival and CthulhuCon Keeps Portland Weird

The 16th annual H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival (HPLFF) and CthulhuCon returns to the Hollywood Theatre at 4122 NE Sandy Blvd. September 30th - October 1st. This frighteningly entertaining event celebrates film and literature influenced by the master of cosmic horror, Howard Phillips Lovecraft, with two nights of horror, fantasy, and science fiction.

“I look forward to the H.P. Lovecraft Festival all year,” said Dark Horse Senior Managing Editor Scott Allie. “It’s a great time for everyone who loves horror–the actually strange, scary stuff–to load up on hard-to-find film, fiction, comics, and other works of art. The Fest helps keep Portland weird.”

Four days after facing down the New England Revolution the Timbers will once again take the pitch at Jeld-Wen Field against the San Jose Earthquakes as they continue their playoff surge.  Riding a four game unbeaten streak, the Timbers will still need to take the full three points against San Jose, particularly with four of their last five games to be played on the road.

Written, arranged and orchestrated by Chris Combs, the album is a long-form conceptual piece that tells the devastating story of the 1921 Tulsa race riot- a real estate-driven ethnocide occurring under the guise of citizen-dispensed justice.

The oil-elite, civic government and local press colluded to take advantage of a racially tense climate in Jim Crow-era Oklahoma, resulting in the death of hundreds of black Tulsans and the destruction of an entire city district. Through jittery, propulsive rhythms and melodies, the album reflects an onlooker's journey through the night that changed Tulsa's landscape and nearly destroyed the country's most thriving black community.
