PDX Bridge Walk Tour
Saturday, September 24
9 a.m.-1 p.m. | $16 | All Ages
No Pre-Registration Required
Contact Nancy Harger at Portland Parks & Outdoor Recreation 503-823-5132, or tour guide Nathan Hoover at 503-200-4140.
On this downtown waterfront walk, we tour the largest mechanical structures in Oregon. We will begin our walk at the corner of NW 2nd & Everett, on the covered steps of the NW Natural Building.
From there, we'll visit bridge museum, meet a bridge operator, and test for synchronous vertical excitation. We'll end our walk with a no-host family-style lunch in Chinatown (extra $). We'll do about a mile of walking, crossing at least three bridges, and seeing about ten in all. Walks are ADA accessible.

My boyfriend loves the Portland bridges and constantly amazes me with his intricate knowledge of how they work. We are remodeling our house right now and I would love to give him something that says thanks for all the hard work he’s done. Thank you for offering the tickets, I know we would love to learn all of the history and workings behind them.

Can I ride my unicycle on the tour, or is this restricted to walking? Either way, I love bridges! And unicycles.

Sounds fun. Especially the lunch. I’ve seen the bridges a million times but would like to know some facts.

This sounds like a lot of fun, Portland bridges are amazing. I’d love to surprise my husband with tickets to this, it sounds just like the sort of thing he’d love!

The bridges make Portland, well Bridge City. One of the first things I learned when coming here was to know the names of all the bridges. They are all unique and true treasures. What a treat it would be to take this tour!

Exercise and knowledge! Whoopy

Because I’m a total nerd! I study physics and LOVE mechanical things. This option seems safer than contemplating the bridges on my own to figure them out–I’d probably step into the lane just to get a better view, without checking for traffic, in my distraction.

I think this would be a great way to spend a day

Because I am SUPER interested in bridges, and would LOVE dragging my husband along (he would actually like it haha)

I didn’t know that Portland offered tours for the bridges. I’d love to go to this! If my boyfriend won’t go, I’m sure my sister would. :)

My older (8-year old) daughter is fascinated by Portland’s bridges, particularly “Why are they all different?” I’d love to give her the insider’s perspective on the bridges and help her appreciate one of Portland’s most visible yet glibly understood treasures.

We have lived in Portland for almost 3 years and still have not had the chance to experience some of these amazing sites, this would be so much fun and a great way to spend a day. Please and thank you!

Thanks to everyone who commented!
I’m so excited to lead these bridge tours– about six this year–through Portland Parks and Outdoor Recreation. (Apart from these, I mainly lead bridge walks for students of all ages from around our region.)
I hope I will still have an opportunity to meet many of you on tomorrow’s tour; but if not, there will be one more chance this year to join me on a bridge walk: next month, on October 22nd!

My husband is working on a bridge right now- a tiny one, but he would ooh and ahhh over a mechanical tour of our bridges!!
