This October marks the 3rd annual Portland Architecture + Design Festival. This month-long, city-wide celebration of our local built environment and design community features architectural tours, film screenings, public exhibitions, design lectures, and more.

This is a festival for the entire city, from design enthusiasts to design professionals, policy makers to homemakers, students to senior citizens. The Portland Architecture + Design Festival presents the opportunity for each of us to have an extended conversation about design in the Rose City. We will engage in new places and unique ways of interacting with our city; discover the buildings, landscapes, neighborhoods, and urban spaces that make Portland special; and explore new issues and ideas shaping the future of design and community.

Highlights of the month-long festival include:

As an architect in training, I’d love to go! Plus, I’ve been sick with the flu this week and that would really cheer me up.

  2.   Megan Says:

I’m an interior design student and would love to see architecture and design in action! Plus, I just purchased my textbooks today which means I have no money for anything fun for the next few months ;)

  3.   Hilary A Says:

I work in construction finance, behind the scenes of many a home build. I have yet to visit a home site and see the fruits of my financing accomplishments, but if I did, I would not see homes of the caliber on this Architectural Design Tour. What a delicious menu of design elements from mid-century through today!

I am also fascinated by the film retrospective, particularly “Lost Buildings” and “My Playground” about urban design and how architecture and lifestyle coalesce in the city.

This is one multimedia, multifarious event that sounds educational, enjoyable, effervescent and has my excitement literally and figuratively BUILDING. I would love to be a part of the events, and those tickets would be delightfully appreciated.

  4.   Keith+Steph Says:

We love old homes, especially those crafties and mid-centuries! We will be building our own mobile, effiency-home, on-wheels and would benefit from some direct, first-person inspiration.

  5.   Sarah K Says:

We want to learn ideas on how to renovate / retrofit old homes!

  6.   Simone Says:

    omg i need i need !

This looks like an amazing tour. Just read an article about similar housing projects in Sunset Magazine (article- “A tree grows in Portland”.- August Issue). These houses are impressive. Would really like to see the Belluschi House. Please pick me!

I know it’s probably more my myopic tendencies but I haven’t seen much in this city in terms of architecture or design. This event looks like the design bitch slap I need to open my eyes more.

  17.   Diane Says:

As a local Oregonian-Portlander I would take my son on city walks to learn, look and comment about the architecture in the city. It would be a wonderful opportunity to share this event with my son now that he is an adult.
