2011 Portland Architecture & Design Festival
Thursday, September 29 – Monday, October 31
adfestivalpdx.com
This October marks the 3rd annual Portland Architecture + Design Festival. This month-long, city-wide celebration of our local built environment and design community features architectural tours, film screenings, public exhibitions, design lectures, and more.
This is a festival for the entire city, from design enthusiasts to design professionals, policy makers to homemakers, students to senior citizens. The Portland Architecture + Design Festival presents the opportunity for each of us to have an extended conversation about design in the Rose City. We will engage in new places and unique ways of interacting with our city; discover the buildings, landscapes, neighborhoods, and urban spaces that make Portland special; and explore new issues and ideas shaping the future of design and community.
Highlights of the month-long festival include:
- 10/1: 10am – 4pm | Homes Tour featuring 6 exceptional Portland homes (including the rarely toured Belluschi House)
- 10/27: 6:30pm | Design Awards Gala at the Portland Art Museum
- 9/29: 6:30pm | Opening Party – 100 Years of Oregon Architecture exhibition
- 10/15: 1pm | Architectural photography workshop and tour
- Varies: Design lectures
- 10/4, 10/11, 10/18: 6pm | Film Screenings with guest curators from Cinema Project, Second Story Interactive Studios, and NW Film Center
- Deadline 10/23: Architectural photography contest in association with ProPhoto

As an architect in training, I’d love to go! Plus, I’ve been sick with the flu this week and that would really cheer me up.
September 29, 2011 at 09:11
I’m an interior design student and would love to see architecture and design in action! Plus, I just purchased my textbooks today which means I have no money for anything fun for the next few months ;)

I work in construction finance, behind the scenes of many a home build. I have yet to visit a home site and see the fruits of my financing accomplishments, but if I did, I would not see homes of the caliber on this Architectural Design Tour. What a delicious menu of design elements from mid-century through today!
I am also fascinated by the film retrospective, particularly “Lost Buildings” and “My Playground” about urban design and how architecture and lifestyle coalesce in the city.
This is one multimedia, multifarious event that sounds educational, enjoyable, effervescent and has my excitement literally and figuratively BUILDING. I would love to be a part of the events, and those tickets would be delightfully appreciated.

We love old homes, especially those crafties and mid-centuries! We will be building our own mobile, effiency-home, on-wheels and would benefit from some direct, first-person inspiration.
September 29, 2011 at 12:12
We want to learn ideas on how to renovate / retrofit old homes!

This looks like an amazing tour. Just read an article about similar housing projects in Sunset Magazine (article- “A tree grows in Portland”.- August Issue). These houses are impressive. Would really like to see the Belluschi House. Please pick me!

Just got laid off from my job. Love this tour, and REALLY want to go. PS love your website, too

My husband and I would love to go…we have been remodeling our house for so many years we are on the second round in the same house. We love to go on walks and comment on every house, It would be lovely to see good ones this weekend.

My girlfriend would love to go to this, and I would love to surprise her with tickets. Since we’re both broke, I’d very much like to win these… plus, it would almost certainly get me some “free ticket lovin”

Coming from IL, I’m a sucker for great design and architecture. I’d love to see what’s on the horizon for Portland…the city that I now live in:)

It’s time to dream bigger than just moving up to a double-wide!
September 29, 2011 at 20:32
Sounds like a lot of fun. I love great homes and great design.
September 29, 2011 at 20:39
I know it’s probably more my myopic tendencies but I haven’t seen much in this city in terms of architecture or design. This event looks like the design bitch slap I need to open my eyes more.
September 29, 2011 at 21:05
As a local Oregonian-Portlander I would take my son on city walks to learn, look and comment about the architecture in the city. It would be a wonderful opportunity to share this event with my son now that he is an adult.
September 29, 2011 at 21:17
The Belluschi House!
September 29, 2011 at 21:41
I’m interested in public policy and how it relates to housing.
September 29, 2011 at 22:19
It’s my boyfriends birthday and he loves nothing more but design and architecture type stuff. It would be nice to surprise him with these tickets.
September 29, 2011 at 22:35
This sounds amazing! I’d love to go, being a broke grad student this is probably my only chance. Scholarships for conferences to talk about this stuff but not for actually seeing what gets build-its a damn shame, know that I think about it!
September 29, 2011 at 22:47
We just moved to to Oregon this summer and think this would be a great way to get to know our new city!

This sounds like such an amazing event and as a recent interior design graduate I would be honored to go. I love when there are architecture and design events in the Portland area and I can’t wait for Portland Archtober!
September 30, 2011 at 11:03

Portland arch porn, live and in person. Yes, please; pick me!
October 6, 2011 at 12:46
I am a recent architectural grad from Montana State University in Bozeman, MT. I would love to attend this event (for obvious, nerdy architectural reasons), and my finance and I will be in Portland at the end of the month! What a great event and even better timing! Pick us!
