Refuge Presents a very special evening with Hip Hop Legends FIRST OREGON appearance as entire group FREESTYLE FELLOWSHIP along with BLACKALICIOUS LIVE HOSTED BY LYRICS BORN!!

Local Support with: Doo Doo Funk Allstars//MyG (Dj Set)//Serge Severe

Blackalicious is an American hip hop duo from Sacramento, California made up of rapper Gift of Gab (born Tim Parker) and DJ/producer Chief Xcel (born Xavier Mosley). They are noted for Gift of Gab’s often “tongue-twisting”, multisyllabic, complex rhymes and Chief Xcel’s “classic” beats.

The pair have released three full-length albums (1999′s Nia, 2002′s Blazing Arrow and 2005′s The Craft), and have been described as “one of the most popular groups in the independent hip-hop scene.”. At a solo show in June, 2010, Gift of Gab announced that he and Chief Xcel were 7 songs into their new album, and hoping for an early 2011 release.

  10.   Em Says:

Blackalicious is one of the only hip hop groups I have felt comfortable sharing with my little sister through the Big Brothers and Big Sisters program. The group changed my life as an older teenager and it’s helping to change hers.

  11.   Mindskillz Says:

  17.   Jamie Says:

Because I was in a bar when I met Annalillia, drunk and high drinking shots of tequilly-a (chasing it with Genuine Draft), telling wack jokes while the bartender laughed.

Also, because I’m not silly enough to think I need to win some girl back that broke up with me because I didn’t spend enough money on her.

  18.   Chris Tuza Says:

I can’t wait to see Blackalicious, Lyrics Born and the rest of this crew. It’s been too long. Please send me some tickets.

  26.   Lance P. Says:

Freestyle Fellowship are legends, its almost like going to see the Beatles of Hip Hop. And with Blackalicious?? You gotta be kidding me. Im taking this opportunity to get educated on REAL Hip Hop! Winning this contest would basically be you people giving me a scholarship to attend the University iv always wanted to go to!

  27.   Brian Says:

Seeing Gift of Gab alone would be amazing! Never thought I’d get to see Blackalicious as a group

Seriously, got-damn. Blackalicious plus Freestyle Fellowship hosted by Lyrics Born. And then Serge Severe opening up? It’s a cure for my occasional Bay Area homesickness plus a celebration of being up in PDX. Hook it up!

  30.   Asya Says:

Blackalicious is an inspiring underground hip-hop group that was introduced to me b my boyfriend a few years ago. I have wonderful memories of him and I just feelin’ and groovin’ to the beats of Do This My Way and If I May. I’d really love to relive this with tickets to their live performance.

  31.   Matthew Says:

    Yes, have some.

  32.   Harry Says:

Been a while since Chief Xcel has been in town with the Gift…What an all star lineup! Dope venue, dope artists, dope free tickets?

  33.   Tyler Says:

Mannnnn, I would LOVE to go see this show and I would take my wife. We just had our second child who is now6 weeks old and we finally feel like we can have grandma watch her for a few hours, only problem is that my wife isn’t working for a while as she stays home with the kids and $ is tight. All of you that go have a great time, Blackilicious kills it in concert.

  34.   Erica Says:

I want to surprise my friend Allysa so we can pretend like we are back at UO listening to Blackalicious as we get ready to go out to Rennie’s. :)

  35.   Scott Says:

I saw Blackalicious at the Roseland when The Craft came out, and I NEED MORE!!!

  36.   Megan Says:

I have been a fan of these geniuses for years. I have caught them live twice, but not with the entire lineup. This would be a show that would make me a more complete human being. And I am finishing a dual master’s degree so I have zero dollars. Pick me!!!

  37.   Seoul Brother #1 Says:

I’ve seen Blackalicious many times, beginning in 1994. I’ve seen parts of Freestyle Fellowship, but never as a whole. When I moved up to Portland from so cal I brought my west coast flavor and underground crates, not a lot of people dug it… But the more I djed to get the word out that the west coast had the illest mcs, the more folks listened. Now years later, these guys are legends. I’ve wanted a Fellowship reunion ever since Jupiter finished his time. Instead I’ve seen Aceyalone solo alot alot, Microphone Micah 9 several times and Peace, well he kicked it for a minute. I’ve only seen Kiilu but never perform.
So you could say it’s kind of a dream to see them live… Together. I feel like my old ass has paid dues… So it’d be nice to get through the door with no hassles so I can witness the greatest mc’s on the planet perform as one

  38.   Amy P. Says:

This is THE hip hop show! My break crew performed for Lyrics Born a couple halloweens ago but I wasn’t able to be there so I’m trying to make up for it by going to this show! But this will totally make the crew way jealous!

  39.   Lydia Says:

I want to go to this show So Bad! And I want to take my poor little jobless friend with me– she broke her feet and got fired… pretty legit hard-luck story. My sweetheart’s gonna go to this too– he’s been a fan of all these amazing performers for years! And I don’t get to see great hip hop nearly enough! So please send me! Oh, and it is my birthday. :)

  40.   Treasa Says:

I’m now just left-center in the “storm of healing” after heartbreak; moving toward the middle & hopefully some peace of mind. Trying like hell to take the lessons learned and salvage my spirit…. heartache isn’t for sissies, for real.
Words & music are good friends right now and I could really, REALLY use something to IGNITE me and make me think of anything else but the situation. Who better than Blackalicious, et al, to speed up the healing process? A plus is the addition of Tony Ozier & his crew in there somewhere! (Sad, slightly unrelated but relevant side story: when Thievery Corp was in town, I found I had won tix AFTER the show…the notification e-mail went to my junk box! I can’t remember winning anything in my life & I blew it! MORE heartbreak!) So I was thinking perhaps I should throw in the proverbial towel & stay in ’til this year is over! But Blackalicious + Freestyle Fellowship are EXACTLY what this chica needs to inspire her soul and perhaps even go on a date again (what a great way to get back in the game after ending a 12 yr relationship, right?!)…so I’m trying one more time! And I’m trainable-I’ve added you to my contacts & will be checking constantly! Good luck everyone…I’d love to share it the experience w/all of you! Peace~

  41.   Jared Says:

I would be so happy to see gift of gab, I’ve never been to refuge either.

  42.   paul Says:

big fan here. i’d love to take a friend to experience good hip hop

  43.   tali Says:

DUDE! BLACKALICIOUS IN PORTLAND!! I just moved up from SF, and am totally missing all the awesome concerts. Seeing them would totally christen this place as my new home!

  44.   isaac Says:

We are driving all the way from Moscow, Idaho for my girlfriends birthday and cousins graduation. We just moved to Idaho from Portland for graduate school and can’t stand it! Seeing them would bring our trip full circle and make it WAY worth it.

  45.   Michelle Says:

I was stuck at work the last time Blackalicious played in Portland, ME so someone else could have the night off to go to the show. Just moved from Portland to Portland (this one!) a month ago, found a job, and by pure luck have the night off so I can stop kicking myself in the pants for what I missed on the east coast.

  46.   Cristy Says:

I LOVE Blackalicious! I work for AmeriCorps and would love to afford these but can’t! This would be such a wonderful gift, thanks for offering Pipeline!

  47.   Grady Says:
