When it comes to Hip Hop, no one is as consistent and influential as KRS-One. It is impossible to discuss Hip Hop's history without discussing KRS-One. His reputation as both a live performer and as Hip Hop's resident ¬Å“Teacha¬Â has reached mythic proportions.
As author Tavis Smiley has put it; ¬Å“You are going to encounter a man who has sincerely sought to develop a relevant, honest and contemporary interpretation of world history, culture, religion, and philosophy. In many ways, his work actually rests in the tradition of great thinkers like W.E.B. DuBois, Carter Woodsen, and John Henrik Clarke, men who have sought to develop a cultural veil through which to interpret the seeming insanity of America.¬Â
Throughout his 20 year career trajectory legendary pioneer Krist Parker who goes by the pseudonym KRS-One (Knowledge Reigns Supreme Over Nearly Everyone) has given fans over a dozen classic Hip-Hop albums, spoke at more then 500 universities/colleges including Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Spelman, Howard and Oxford, been nominated for Grammy Awards, received multiple RIAA certified gold and platinum sales accolades and become the definitive source for conscious urban music.
Nicknamed ¬Å“The Teacha¬Â the New York native and acclaimed MC has been honored by the United Nations, Billboard Magazine, The Source, BET Hip-Hop Awards, VH-1's Hip-Hop Honors and Harvard University to name a few. He has been given the keys to the city in Kansas City, Philadelphia and Compton, was nominated for the NACA 1992 Harry Chapman Humanitarian Award, holds the Reebok Humanitarian Award and three Ampex Golden Reel Awards. KRS One is viewed as the embodiment of the philosophical, sociological and political worldview espoused originally by those that participate in Hip Hop's culture.
He is presently one of the most outspoken leaders of Hip Hop's politics and tradition. His integration of Hip Hop and metaphysical knowledge resonates throughout his music, lectures, and writings as his powerful presence continues to inspire generations. As Rolling Stone once put it, ¬Å“He's one of the most influential lyricists of all time.¬Â

i can’t imagine ANYONE i would like to win free tickets to more!
November 1, 2011 at 15:39
I am new to Portland and I cant really afford to go out to see shows and have fun. Im hoping to win and have a good night out, its been too long.
November 1, 2011 at 15:55
i should win free tickets because it would be quite an experience to attend a show of a dude, who I heard through cassettes, as an 80s brat. his conscious messages were engrained in my subconscious. So i must see him while he’s alive and on the west coast. Besides, I’m too broke to buy tickets. feeding kids is expensive. And KRS wants me to care for and educate the kids. Hahaha
November 1, 2011 at 16:12
I would like to win because I was just audited today so now it’s the only way I can take my boyfriend to see one of his favorite artists, therefore reminding him how much he likes me so he doesn’t move back to MA when its rains non-stop for 60+ days.
November 1, 2011 at 17:04
I’ve been following KRS-One since 1984 and stayed a fan even when he released Spiritual Minded in 02.
Even as a young kid, I had a sense of awe for his articulate flows and how he spread knowledge to kids needing to hear a message.
Now older and with my own kids, my 21 year old has now become a devoted fan.
And I have yet to see his talent live.
Last wish before I get too old to hang out after 10 PM.
November 1, 2011 at 19:56
I would love to win these tickets and surprise my girlfriend by taking her to see one of her favorite hip hop artists. :) thanks!
November 1, 2011 at 22:01
I got to see KRS on my 21st birthday, (8 years ago) and would love to go again. Love this guys music.
November 2, 2011 at 06:06
Mike D. on Monday… KRS One on Tuesday.
It would be a pretty, pretty nice start to my week.
November 2, 2011 at 14:05
I should Win these tix not only because my husband would DIE if he got to go see him, but also cuz I need to “Open up my third eye vision”
KRS One rocks. I am constantly turning to the “Beef” song for inspiration for healthy eating… he is inspiring to me an my family for so many reasons!
November 2, 2011 at 14:07
KRS One taught me to be the person I am today!
In his words… “We all gonna reap what we all are sewing. There is no death, just constant growing”
November 2, 2011 at 14:09
I need to reopen my third eye vision!!
KRS One Rocks – he is an inspiration to me and my family. I am always turning to the Beef lyrics for inspiration for healthy eating!
November 2, 2011 at 16:32
Would b an unbelievable experience!!!
November 2, 2011 at 17:28
I remember listening to them for the first time as a teen in the early nineties and saying, “Now that is what hip-hop is about!” Changed my opinion of the whole genre.
November 2, 2011 at 23:04
In school they never taught bout hamburger or steak, Elisha Mohammed, or the welfare state, but I know…and I know because of KRS1….yeah I know…
November 3, 2011 at 12:00
KRS/BDP was the very first rap tape my older brother gave me when I was 8 years old. I would have to say my favorite video on yo mtv raps was My Philosophy and I owe much of my love for hip hop to him. Chris Parker is one of the very best and I’ve never had the chance to see him . It would make me very happy.
November 3, 2011 at 13:44
I would love to see this show because it’s been almost a decade since I’ve seen the prophet live on stage. To this day, only one other show I’ve seen comes close to topping it. Pick me!!
November 3, 2011 at 13:51
Whoop whooop! I’ve never seen the teacher live on stage. Please. I’m ready to go all out and get live for a true legend! :)
November 3, 2011 at 16:39
i’ll drop anything and everything for this show.
November 3, 2011 at 17:11
KRS is a living legend! I have wanted to see him tear it up live for so long.
November 3, 2011 at 18:35
i’ll bet he wants that guest appearance on rem’s out of time back, but other than that mis-step, i’d love to catch this legend!
November 3, 2011 at 18:53
My boyfriend has a deep passion for hip hop (even creating his own music influenced by the genre) and because he’s focused on his education and is currently not working, it’s hard for him to go out (especially to shows). This would be a great way to show him how proud I am of him and reward him for all his hard work, and I know he would love it!
November 3, 2011 at 19:31
KRS 1 is Knowledge Received Sonically
November 3, 2011 at 20:11
Winning tickets or not, just the fact that THE legend will be setting foot in my ciy is enough for me. KRS is and always will be a force to be recognized, remembered and revered..not only did he change the face of putting REAL knowledge into hip-hop, he changed the way I listen and react to hip-hop and music in general….his aura of power, brains, respect, lessons and just mere positive insight is enough to make anyone want to surround themselves with a spirit like that.
November 3, 2011 at 20:23
Hip hop is such a rarity in PDX. I’d love to see this! Thx.
November 3, 2011 at 21:00
KRS-One is da bomb. His was the first rap CD I ever bought. It would be so awesome to see him live. Cool.
November 4, 2011 at 00:04
South Bronx…South South Bronx!!!
I’m so stoked to have KRS one perform in Portland. Just wish I had an extra $20 to see the show.

November 4, 2011 at 08:47
I would like to win because I need to win
November 4, 2011 at 08:57
KRS-One is one of my old time favorites. I remember sitting in my room with my headphones plugged into my boombox trying to get all the words down. I would love to see this show live.
November 4, 2011 at 10:30
Where were you the first time you heard Criminal Minded?
November 4, 2011 at 11:25
HELL YEAH!!!!
November 4, 2011 at 11:49
I have been following “the teacher” since the 80′s. Boogie Down Productions, and KRS-One have been a staple in my experience of hip hop. I believe He is the most talented hip hop artist to grace the stage, I will be there to exercise my voice, and listen to the true definition of hip hop, as displayed by the master! Free tickets would only increase this blessed life we are living!
November 4, 2011 at 12:58
Word!, I would love to see KRS-ONE perform in Portland, OR, I have never seen him & I love his music. I am excited that my friends band Speaker Minds gets to open for him in Olympia!
November 4, 2011 at 14:00
What up?!!!
November 4, 2011 at 14:31
KRS-One is what is great, epic, and educational about hip hop. He has been teaching through his dynamic lyrics and traditional hip hop beats. He has witnessed the birth of hip hop and has contributed to its legacy by sharing and explaining his philosophies through his important music. We are blessed to have this Philosopher come and teach at the Bossanova! If you come, bring pen and pad and take some important notes…..
November 4, 2011 at 20:06
I would love to surprise my husband for histhe birthday with his favorite hiphop artist KRS-One! He’s a versatile club DJ here in phx but would gladly fly to see this concert. His music career began with hiphop and KRS is one of the main reasons why! Please send us free tickets!!! TY
November 4, 2011 at 23:13
My boyfriend has been listening to KRS-One since he was young. We are on a tight budget these days and getting to see this show would be amazing!
November 5, 2011 at 00:29
I would love to win KRS-One tickets because I have never had the opportunity to see him live! I work two jobs and go to school to support myself and could use a nice break in my week.
November 5, 2011 at 14:22
I want to go see KRS-One because
A. I love him
B. Because my boyfriend and I went to Blackstar last night, and I got too drunk and completely ruined the evening. I’d really like the chance to make it up to him :)
November 5, 2011 at 16:15
I have the upmost respect for KRS One and Mic crenshaw due to the fact that both artists are amazingly articulate and intelligent. I have been a fan of KRSone for 15 years and have never.seen him live. Please pick me for the free tix! Pretty please with sugar on top!
November 5, 2011 at 18:25
OMG Please meeeeeeeeee!
November 5, 2011 at 19:07
Let’s begin-
What? Where? Why? Or when?… ‘cause Bronx created hip hop- (bringin’ it to Portland) and hear it first-hand from the intelligent brown man, a vegetarian, no goat nor ham… It’s not about a salary- it’s all about reality, stop wasting your money on marketing schemes, and pretty packages pushin’ dreams to the beams… A dope MC is a dope MC… (and you KNOW these tickets… belong to me)
…just a little stew of some choice lyrics from KRS (& BDP!) I’ve been rockin’ to this guy for 25 years now! Yet, never got the chance to see him face to face…
November 6, 2011 at 05:28
KNOWLEDGE REIGNS SUPREME OVER NEARLY EVERYONE.
KRS-One is one of my all-time favorite hip-hop artists. My birthday is in two weeks and I’m only going to be in Portland until then, and I’ve only been to three shows since I moved here in April since I’m broke as a joke. I’m going to be at this show regardless, but it would be really cool to win tickets!
November 6, 2011 at 15:38
Yeah I think free tickets would be swell!
November 6, 2011 at 17:42
I would love these tickets because my boyfriend and I just moved to Portland and he is a big hiphop fan and we both love KRS1 because he is classic! Because we just moved we are kinda low on money so it would be sweet to score free tickets!
November 6, 2011 at 19:46
KRS is the best at what he does. He controls the crowd like no other. I was lucky enough to see him once in Eureka, CA. This would make me and my girlfriend the happiest set of Scorpio babies in Portland. Yes, it’s a handful being ” together. She has never had the pleasure of KRS-ONE. If any ticket’s still are going to be givin away I would love you forever!
I got blessed with Francis Black tix a few months ago, I got there at 9:30 and I guess show was at 8 and already missed it. We were heartbroken, and I vowed to win again and KRS is my Favorite Rapper! G Point Blank!
I will be at the show either way, I’ll spare change my way in show. Thanks for giving away tickets to every killer show for all us true fans. I swear I will not Miss KRS. Last time I only had about 3 maybe 4 hours between knowing I won and show was half over. So I’m stoked you’re announcing the Winner tomorrow! Thank You!
Peace,
Oso
November 6, 2011 at 20:08
I wrote about a small novelette in order to win y’all over. Don’t now where it went but KRS is the greatest not the latest but for sure best to do this thing we call the Temple of Hip-Hop!
He set damn near set every standard and deserves the props from this industry he rarely receives. The Fans know what’s up, #1.
I only hope my lady and I win tix.
Thank You for giving tix’s to every sic show in PDX!
Peace,
Oso

November 7, 2011 at 14:30
Ive been listening to KRS One for quite awhile now, he has given me alot of strength and knowlege through his lyrics, one of the main reasons i listen to him is because i am a homeless teen and i can relate to what hes been through, KRS One is a legend, a role model for alot of people, i would do anything for tickets to this show- Paul
November 7, 2011 at 21:37
I wanna go!
November 29, 2011 at 12:21
Josh,You don’t have to be told this, but the bottom is my favorite. What I love about it, is it’s use of varying detail as corresponds to perspective ,depth and graduated, suspended particulate matter. The raw roughness of execution, the way the dust climbs up the boots and pants (very realistic if you have been Ft. Irwin, Ca. in the military, or walked to the bottom of the grand canyon and out- I have done both). I love the controlling pastel scheme with choppy roughness and abbreviated detail properly reflecting a whirlwind of rotor wash in the dessert.Tough as hell , Bro!
