Murs is the hardest-working rapper alive. If he's not running circles around America as part of Paid Dues, the annual hip-hop festival that he created and organized, he's doing backflips across a stage in Budapest, or shaking hands with fans in Japan before catching a bullet train to a packed in-store performance.
When he's not on the road, he's in the studio, feverishly adding album after album to a cavernous discography which boasts projects released by major-label behemoths like Warner Bros. clear across the industry spectrum to indie powerhouses like Rhymesayers and Def Jux, a testament to the respect this man commands from the underground and commercial world alike. And all from a guy who only got a manager three years ago.
To hear him tell it, he has no choice but to work hard. From the rhymes in his notepad to the hair on his head, Murs is not your average rapper. Hell, he's not your average guy. Never has been. His stomping grounds is the Mid-City area of Los Angeles, the kind of neighborhood where cornrows and Chuck Taylors are decidedly more common than dreadlocks and Vans, so Murs was on his own from early on. Those were the days when he first put pen to paper and began perfecting what he calls ¬Ëœsitcom rap': songs about the everyday life of those of us who don't live in the hood, and don't live in Hollywood either - the life the majority of us are living.
Listening to Murs is something like listening to a regular guy who just happens to know how to rap. His lyrics are straightforward, down-to-earth, and honest, delivered with a vocal tone and forcefulness that recalls a slightly more relaxed Ice Cube.

Simple: I support real hip-hop. Murs is pretty much the opposite of crap like Drake.

Please give me an opportunity to bond with my son who introduced me to Murs. He is getting too old to cuddle- this might be my last chance.

MURS is one of my very favorites (I love him with Slug in Felt)! My very best friend is in town for a long weekend & neither she or I has seen him. This would be the highlight of her trip for sure.

I fucking love Murs…moved here from the Bay Area, being gay and living in the hood loving hip hop never went together. MUrs changed all that for me. His song “wild style” bout the two gay lovers tryn to get thru high school let me know I wasn’t alone. Tho they ended bad, Murs always made me feel there a place in this world for me, and someone out there making music for the real people no matter who or what you are. It would touch my heart to get to see the man I rocked in my headphones when I thought bout giving up.

Murs has a lock on the contemporary hip hop scene. Beats that kill and words that provoke important thought. If you haven’t seen this show, it’s time to get caught up on Monday night.

I would love to go see this show! Murs is def true hip hop and Tabi Bonney! Are you for real? I love his music! I tried to see them last year when they were at Hawthorne theatre but unfortunately couldn’t make because of finance issues that required me to work mandatory OT :( winning these tickets would totally make up for missing these guys last time they were in town.

Murs restores the honor of Hip Hop when so many uninformed people only see hate and violence.
