ARE YOU READY FOR SOME COLLEGE FOOTBALL?
Even if you are not an Oregon Ducks or Stanford Cardinals fan, this weekend’s game has huge implications for the both the Pac 12 Championship and the National Championship Game. If Stanford wins, they will be the go-to team for the BCS Championship game in New Orleans if Oklahoma State loses.
If the Ducks win and Oklahoma State loses to Oklahoma in December, there will be some serious debate over whether the Ducks or Sooners will go the to BCS National Championship.
Stanford has vaulted to the #3 position in the AP poll by beating 7 terrible teams with losing and combined records of something like 12-30 (Duke plays football?), the now unranked Washington Huskies, and getting into a shoot-out triple-overtime victory with a short-handed and sanctioned USC team. Two questionable calls even allowed that game to go into overtime (Andrew Luck love/Lane Kiffin hate is strong). Basically, this is the first (and only) real top-20 team the Cardinals play this year.
The Ducks started out the season by losing against LSU, the undisputed number one team in the country right now. In the crazy world of BCS rankings, that puts Oregon at #7 in the rankings even though this was practically a home-game for the Tigers (100 miles from their campus, and 2,000 or so miles from Eugene), yet Alabama is still #3 having lost at home to the same team just last week. Playoffs Please.
Either way, NO ONE outside of Dixieland wants to see that game repeated. Therefore, a nice beat-down of Stanford in Santa Clara County should get the Ducks to #4 or higher. It won’t be easy, but the Ducks have been tested and Stanford (read above) really hasn’t yet.
