Many a Saturday midnight of FdL curator Nico Bella’s youth was spent dressed in strange costumes and dancing around on a stage and yelling at the movie screen of The Clinton St. Theater. Little did she know it was paving the way for a lifetime spent in strange costumes dancing around on the stages and yelling at the movie screens of The Bagdad and The Mission.
The joy of the “Time Warp” the savagely sexy “Sweet Transvestite” Tim Curry, the singing and dancing of…. ..Susan Sarandon? Every weekend was a blur of sequins, flung toast, squirt guns, playing cards and dancing Meatloaf. It is with great love and sentiment for those more youthful days that Fleur de Lethal presents a one night only Bagdad screening of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show”.
Released in 1975 Rocky Horror is the longest running theater release in film history and the first major studio film to be considered a “midnight movie”. This racy, randy, downright bizarre musical was selected in 2005 for preservation in the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress on the grounds of it being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant”.
Traditionally screenings are held on Saturdays at midnight but because we’re all getting a little older this one is on a weeknight, at 9 and 21/+ so there’s (legal) beer.
If you were a participant in your youth there will be opportunities to participate again so find that old gold sequin top hat and squeeze in to those shiny shorts and fishnets. A mass “de-virginization” will be held for all first time viewers and a costume contest hosted by FdL Historian Chris Shattuck.
Local drag, burlesque and nightlife luminaries will be making special appearances during the musical numbers and singing, dancing and partici……pation are entirely encouraged.
Traditional props of toast,squirt guns,toilet paper, newspapers and playing cards are very welcome. If you forget yours– the inimitable Trixie will be roving the aisles and selling her..I mean *THE* goodies for a couple of bucks!

I have never seen the Rocky Horror Picture Show, and I remember everyone telling me about it in high school. I think it would be the most fabulous thing to see this year! I love the theater in general and Bagdad theater in particular I’ve been to quite a few of their events and they do a sensational job!

I’ve seen it live twice in my life & many time at midnite is many cities. Seeing at one of my favorite venues in Portland, The Bagdad Theater (I used to go there alot even before McMinemens bought it) would be the best yet!

I have never seen this movie, I went to Moulin Rouge at the bagdad last month and saw it for the first time, and oh man was that an experience, I had so much fun, I would LOVE to go see The Rocky Horror Picture Show in the same setting for the first time…. I’m ready to lose my virginity to this movie!
