Exhibit Open through January 31

Victory Gallery
733 NW Everett Street

Victory Gallery will unveil its latest exhibition, ¬Å“Urban Scapes,¬Â by German artist Lena Schmidt on December 1. Self proclaimed ¬Å“urban scapes,¬Â Schmidt's works depict “non-places” and include city transit zones, traffic interchanges, road systems, crossroads and deserted industrial buildings.

Schmidt uses found wood in place of canvas, and transforms the surface by making delicate and forcefully repetitive knife marks before layering marker or paint over the rendering. The resulting images are of dark, wet, empty, nighttime streets populated by power lines and the eerie light of street lamps. The evocative works are as haunting as they are tranquil.

Schmidt's work is currently showing in Hamburg and international collections.
