The Christmas Revels 2011 will transport audiences to Medieval England for an engaging and participatory show filled with music, spectacle and delight. Our festive new show will bring audiences the wonderful music, dance and traditions of Medieval and Renaissance England, delightfully presented within an accessible narrative rooted in historic tradition.

The Christmas Revels show guarantees fun for all ages in a colorfully costumed audience-interactive pageant full of cultural history and traditions. The “King and the Fool” script takes audiences to a wonderful winter feast in the castle of a King who might be King Henry V returned from his great victory at Agincourt in 1415. There is much merriment and festive entertainment, especially headed up by the Kings’ Fool, who tests the king’s patience while uproariously usurping the royal role.

Cultural traditions dictate that life is topsy turvy at the medieval solstice and so the King must put up with the insubordination. An auditioned 60-person chorus, plus the Portland Brass Quintet.

Show dates and times are:

¬Â¢ Friday December 2 – 7:30pm
¬Â¢ Saturday December 3 – 1pm matinee and 7:30pm
¬Â¢ Sunday December 4 – 1pm matinee and 7 pm

oh please, oh please let me win! Due to my financial hardship brought on by layoffs I won’t be able to go home for the holidays to see my family. This will be my first holiday EVER without seeing my family in all my life (36 years). I’d LOVE to have my spirits lifted by seeing this event in person. Please consider me.

I have always wanted to see this show and this year, as I have been out of work for several months, we just cannot afford tickets. It would be the highlight of our holiday season to be able to go to the Christmas Revels. Fingers and toes crossed! Thanks for the opportunity!

The holiday season has ALWAYS been a musically, magical time, for me! There’s NO WAY to get too much music, during this month. Mix the music with the theater, comedy, costumes, and cultural delights and there’s the perfect recipe for a “Christmas Delight”! :D

  17. Ben Milton December 2, 2011 at 09:54 #

Medieval Choral Music? People in dragon suits? Sign me up! It’s hard to find musical entertainment like this in Portland, apart from choirs like Cantores in Ecclesia. It’s music like this that makes the season become real.

  18. goldielocks December 2, 2011 at 10:21 #

Well, since they rejected my audition, this is the next best thing. “Tho I always say, why watch when you can participate?
