With every new social media platform, mobile application, or digital device, businesses and organizations must adapt to remain competitive and relevant-technology doesn't follow business cycles or the calendar year. So how can businesses and marketers stay up to speed in a world that changes faster than the seasons?

Important answers are found each year at the Digital Marketing Conference (DMC) at Portland State University. During this leading-edge business-development event, creative professionals gather to share ideas, learn from one another, and build the region's economic competitiveness.

Now in its fourth year, the 2011 DMC will present award-winning Web strategists and authors, online content designers, and social media experts. The conference will be held December 11-12 in Lincoln Hall at PSU. Business owners, emerging creative leaders, and students will be engaged through national keynote speakers, a digital marketing ¬Å“boot camp,¬Â and high-speed ¬Å“Ignite¬Â presentation sessions.

DMC 2011 sponsors include Whole Foods, KGW, Crowd Compass, WebRanking, and Webvisions. Byron Beck, Portland's well-known writer and media personality, will serve as a conference emcee.

An agency-sponsored kickoff party and PSU-sponsored wrap party will add to the experience and create opportunities for professional networking. Agency sponsors include Mambo Media, Roll 35, and Anvil Media, Inc.

The DMC serves Portland's business and nonprofit communities while recognizing the creative professionals and agencies in the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Conference highlights will include an interactive keynote presentation on ¬Å“The Connected Company,¬Â by Tom Bennett and Roel Uleners of the Dachis Group; Monday keynote presentations by Michael Brito, Tim Frick (Mightybytes, author of Return on Engagement), and Marsha Collier (best-selling author, eBay for Dummies). Drew Blevins of TriMet will present ¬Å“What Makes This Place Great,¬Â TriMet's new rider-engagement campaign. Two Ignite sessions will run Monday afternoon and feature 5-minute speed presentations by over 20 organizations, including Oregon Health & Sciences University, ISITE Design, and The Regence Group.

The Digital Marketing Conference is presented by the Multimedia Professional Program, part of the Professional Development Center at PSU. The Multimedia Professional Program offers over 50 stand-alone courses and three multimedia certificates.

I need to attend this to find a job!
I’ve been getting emails about this event for weeks now but no way on earth could afford it :(

This would just absolutely be in the top highlights of my year… It would be such an amazing opportunity to learn about the field I am interested in joining, and also provide me with amazing connections. If I could afford a ticket, I would be there before the doors open… but I am unfortunately one of the many working college students who has to choose ramen over steak at the grocery store. Going to this might be just what I need to at least upgrade to chicken.

I’m interested in social media and multimedia.

We’ve recently launched an online marketplace that enables small, artisan wineries to sell directly to the consumer. Online marketing is a critical part of our success, and knowing the latest/greatest is critical to our online marketing strategy.

I want to be a sponge when it comes to anything marketing. Digital marketing is the marketing of the future and I want to make sure that I can jump on the bus and not be left behind, therefore getting such up to date and current information about this field is essential. As a college student, the price tag on the event is by no means affordable for me or would it be even if I asked my parents for the ticket for Christmas! I would be stoked beyond belief if given the opportunity to attend!

  6. Karla December 1, 2011 at 09:47 #

This would help me a ton in my job search, as I need to sharpen my skills in this area. I cannot afford to go on my own right now, so winning these tickets would be a wonderful early Christmas present.

    S.O.S.
I have been trapped in the world of bean counting as a means to support my family but have been plotting my great escape for the past year. Spoonful by spoonful I’m scrambling my way out and toward the world of communications and marketing. Turns out that things are a tad different than the last time I took a marketing course back in the 90’s (yes, I am old enough to remember when fax machines were all the new rage).

My neighborhood elementary school fundraising group has been bearing the brunt of my newly acquired/self taught marketing skill set, but really, hasn’t our public school system received the short end of the stick for long enough? Attending the conference would be a great opportunity for me to learn from and start meeting professionals in the industry. Help a school (and pong-era “grannie”) out and please, send me!

  12. Kelsey December 1, 2011 at 16:52 #

I finished grad school in June and am looking for a full-time job in nonprofit marketing. I feel like this would be a fantastic way to get some additional training in digital marketing since this wasn’t taught at all during my grad program. Being unemployed, I can’t afford to pay for the conference on my own, but it would be wonderful to go learn and connect with people with similar interests.

  23. Bronwyn E. December 5, 2011 at 09:27 #

I would be so delighted to go! The speakers sound fabulous and many opportunities seem to be out there. So hope I’m not too late in winning this fantastic opportunity!

  24. Rod Killen December 5, 2011 at 15:47 #

Last year (2010) I got certified in advanced social media through the University of San Francisco. A lot of my business time is spent training people on social media yet I know that things change so quickly. I believe this event would help me catch up. There are not many businesses in Polk County using social media so I’m teaming up with Western Oregon University to teach seminars on this in February.

  25. Colleen December 5, 2011 at 16:07 #

I am an unemployed designer/ artist and the this would be an outstanding networking opportunity.

  26. Tysa Fennern December 5, 2011 at 16:36 #
