Watch Portlandia “Cat Nap” Episode In Portland | Kristen Wiig Video, Miranda July Interview, New Book, & Top 50 “Coolest” Show

Portlandia "Cat Nap" Episode With Kristen Wiig
It’s a big week for Portlandia with the new “Cat Nap” episode starting SNL and Bridesmaids star Kristen Wiig, and featuring filmmaker Miranda July. You can read our interview with Miranda July here on her film ¬ËœThe Future',  You can also see a video clip with Kristen Wiig on IFC’s site here.

From IFC: This Friday at 10/9 c, you are going to discover your new favorite band: Catnapped. The group blends iconic rock outfits (white jumpsuits!), hair (Flock of Seagulls wishes they were this cool), and instruments with one very special twist: Kevin. Kevin is a cat who really gets it. He joined Fred Armisen's and Carrie Brownstein's burgeoning rock group when they were struggling to make themselves stand out in a sea of same old same old bands. The addition of Kevin -who we should mention is a cat, even though musical talent is not species-ist - and his incomparable synthesis of LOL cats and punk, brought the band instant fame and viral notoriety. It also brought them a very ardent fan in the form of Saturday Night Live/¬ÂBridesmaids¬Â star Kristen Wiig who would do anything to make sure the band stayed close to home. This feline fronted group only plays in Portlandia, so you have to tune in to IFC on Friday to hear more of their trailblazing sound.

Portlandia was also included in Shortlist.com’s 50 Coolest TV Shows Ever. IFC also announced that Grand Central Publishing will be releasing a book on November 20th titled ¬Å“PORTLANDIA: A Guide for Visitors.¬Â  The guide “will be written like a traditional travel book, but instead of recommending a reasonably priced diner in Oaxaca, it will lead readers through the Portlandia's landmarks, restaurants, and, undoubtedly, book stores in the same weird and wonderful tone that Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen have developed in their sketch comedy show.”

Amy Schumer @ Helium Comedy Club Portland | Interview + Valentine’s Day Performance Info

Amy Schumer @ Helium Comedy Club PortlandBy Nathalie Weinstein

Somewhere between wise-ass and passive aggressor, you’ll find Amy Schumer. The 30-year-old New York native started off performing stand-up and is now a quickly rising star about to release her own pilot on Comedy Central. Not too shabby for someone voted ‘Teacher’s Worst Nightmare.’

Amy has appeared in numerous films and TV series outside her raucous stand-up career, including ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’, ’30 Rock’ and ‘Price Check’. She is also a huge fan of Portland and says she tries to travel here at least twice a year.

Amy will be getting all romantic with PDX on February 14 and 15 at Helium Comedy Club. She was lovely enough to give me a call to talk about her favorite Portland spots, hecklers and her most memorable Valentine’s Day.

---------------

PDX Pipeline: What do you like to see and do while you’re in Portland?

Amy Schumer: This will be my third time performing in Portland. I love it. I make a point to go back there twice a year. I can pick and choose where I go to perform now and it's on my list of favorites.  I love The Alibi. I came out with Comedy Central once to work on a live event and one of the PAs and I were running around. There's a place right down the block from Helium (The Hawthorne Strip) with pizza and like one stripper. They all read Neil Gaiman which is fantastic. They are really romantic until you don't buy something.

More Info and Tickets: www.illahee.org

First Congregational Church
1126 SW Park Avenue

We talk about job creation and economic growth in terms of living to work, rather than working to live. Shouldn’t our focus on job creation be about more than just a means to enable our increased consumption? Juliet Schor is Professor of Sociology at Boston College. Schor’s research over the last ten years has focused on issues pertaining to trends in work and leisure, consumerism, the relationship between work and family, women’s issues, and economic justice.

Illahee will examine several paradigms or practices - Sacred Cows - that are resistant to criticism or change; systems that deliver poor results for long periods of time, but somehow retain powerful ties to our society. It's hard to argue democracy, jobs, education, health care, and national defense aren't worthy of their sacred cow status, but when it comes to action, there's a fundamental disagreement on their purpose.
