Preview: Portland Trail Blazers @ Dallas Mavericks

Portland Trailblazers (16-12) @ Dallas Mavericks (16-11)
Saturday, February 11th, 5:30pm CSNW

Game Notes: The Blazers get a chance at revenge as they play the Dallas Mavericks tonight. The Mavericks are the team that ended the Blazers season last year in the playoffs and it is certain both teams will remember this. The Mavericks are still the world champions but this season hasn’t been great to them. Their star player has fallen off quite a bit and they resemble the Blazers in that they both have a lot of talent but can’t seem to get all cylinders going every game.

The Blazers had a tough time beating the Hornets last night so this game will be no cake walk. Their road record is still not very good. The bright side is the Mavericks have not played that well at home. They will both be on the second game of a back-to-back so the winner of this game might come down to who plays with more energy.

The Mavericks:

Starting Lineup: Jason Kidd, Dirk Nowitzki, Vince Carter, Brendan Haywood, Shawn Marion

Bench: Jason Terry, Delonte West, Lamar Odom, Yi Jianlian, Brian Cardinal

X’s and O’s:

These two teams might have the best sixth man advantage in all of basketball. Jason Terry and Jamal Crawford are almost the spitting image of each other. Their match-up will be fun and interesting to watch. At this stage of their careers, LaMarcus is a harder matchup than Dirk. LaMarcus is a much better two-way player. This will be a game that highlights the flaws of the Blazers' offense and their lack of a scoring center. If the Blazers possessed one, they would be an impossible match-up for the Mavericks. Because of this, expect to see the Blazers play small ball a lot and leave Camby on the bench. Everyone will have to crash the boards if this happens as the Blazers have been getting killed in rebounds all week long.

Advantage Blazers:

Raymond Felton has been improving a lot lately. This will be a game in which his lack of defense will not be exploited. All he has to do is guard the three-point line against Kidd and he should have an excellent game. He is quicker and more agile than his counter-part. He will probably play heavy minutes in this game so it will be his for the taking if he wants it bad enough.

Last Words:

After this game, the Blazers have a tough stretch of three games in three nights. Another road win would go a long way for their morale. A win against the world champions would be a boost to the whole team before this stretch of games.

Games this week:

Washington - 14th

@ Golden State – 15th

Los Angeles Clippers – 16th
