“At the center of non-violence stands the principle of love”
Any time is good to quote Martin Luther King but it happens to be February, so let’s celebrate Love and Black History. I will share with you mating dances that have had their origins in African culture and are at various degrees of separation in the genealogical tree.
I have carefully chosen award winning dancers well versed in the traditional cultures of Perú, Cuba, Argentina and the US. I have made a diverse selection of Peruvian and US poetry that will deeply move you. I have made contact with my good friend painter Cuco Morales to let me use his magical landscapes as a context for our love. I will make sure that you will walk out of this show with a vibrancy to melt your partner.
Celebrating love should not stop at Valentine’s day, so stretch it out, pick up from where you left and get your tickets to see us on Saturday February 18th at BodyVox Dance Center. 7p.m.
I dedicate this show to my ancestors, especially José, Enrique, Carlos and Cristina Bustamante y Ballivian who introduced me to poetry at a very early age, to my aunt Chabuca Granda who influenced me with her music and my grandfathers Alfonso Granda and Julio Proaño for their flirtatious nature and dancing abilities. This fun work is inspired by them and is a reminder that dance and poetry are gateways to a deep understanding of each other, therefore a vehicle to peace.
Join acclaimed dancer Luciana Proaño, and award winning dancers Freila Merencio, Isidro Valor, Mónica Rojas, Néstor Ruiz, Rachel Lidskog, Mike Eblen, Jack Lim, DonnaMation and PopNtod, for an evening celebrating love.

Body Vox Dance is one of the best kept secrets in Portland. The success of this dance company is due to the creator pursuing his dream during the recession and giving the city a great dance company in spite of the odds.
Their performance would be a wonderful experience as I practice dance and I love to se others perform.

It is said that dance came about as a way to show a young person’s athletic suitability as a mate.
