Preview - Portland Trail Blazers vs Los Angels Clippers:

By Cain Stoneking

Los Angeles Clippers vs. Portland Trailblazers (16-14)
Thursday, February 16th, 7:30pm TNT

Game Notes: Yesterday’s game was a gut-check performance that saw the Blazers win the game by two points. With that win, the Blazers vanquished many demons they have had on their backs this season. First, they won on the road. Second, they won at Golden State. Third, they won a close game. And lastly, they won the second game of a back-to-back. The Blazers can’t hold their hats for long, however, as they play against a red-hot Clippers team tonight.

Los Angeles has already played the Blazers twice, with the home team winning each game. Tonight, the Blazers need to keep that trend going and they will probably have to do it without LaMarcus. Starters have been playing heavy minutes in his absence, but Batum and Wallace have stepped up in a great way. Batum’s future has never seemed brighter and that is a positive thing to take away from Aldridge’s injury.

The Clippers:

Starting Lineup: Mo Williams, Chris Paul, DeAndre Jordan, Blake Griffin, Caron Butler
Bench: Randy Foye, Kenyon Martin, Ryan Gomes, Reggie Evans, Eric Bledsoe

X’s and O’s:

The Blazers will have a tough go without LaMarcus, but can still win this game. In past years after a big injury, it has been great to see every Blazer step up. The Blazers started out with a hot stretch playing at home but have since lost three straight at the Rose Garden. Tonight, they will have to do their best to limit Blake Griffin and Chris Paul. They are the NBA’s best duo and are exciting to watch. Jordan and Martin will grab a lot of rebounds while Williams and Butler are threats from the three-point line. If they can limit the damage the Clippers can do in these areas, the Blazers will be in for another close game, especially if Crawford steps up again in the last few minutes.

Advantage Blazers:

Everybody knew the Blazers had to win against Golden State. They did not want to fall to .500 and they pulled out an amazing win. Their spirits are riding high and, hopefully, they believe they can beat anyone. The Blazers should prove that to themselves tonight.

Last Words:

During the last game of a back-to-back-to back, the Blazers will be tired. They shouldn’t use that as an excuse, however. They should look to come out swinging. There will only be three more games until the all-star break and they can all get some rest. The Blazers might as well play their hearts out.

Games this week:
Atlanta Hawks- 18th
@Los Angeles Lakers - 20th
San Antonio – 21st
