San Antonio Spurs vs Portland Trail Blazers Game Preview
San Antonio Spurs (23-9) vs. Portland Trailblazers (17-16)
Tuesday, February 21st, 7:00pm CSNW
Game Notes: The Blazers cannot seem to string together two good games as they were routed and embarrassed in the first quarter against the Lakers 7-29. At one point it was 7-35, more like a blowout football score than a basketball score. Rip City looked like R.I.P. City: absolutely dead. The game ended at a more respectful score 92-103, but there was no real threat at a comeback.
The Spurs on the other hand have not looked this dominant in quite some time. Tony Parker is a candidate for MVP and his team is on an eleven game winning streak. They just beat Utah in Utah, which is a very hard place to win. They have also been plagued with injuries and currently are missing Manu Ginobili and Tiago Splitter.
The Spurs:
Starting Lineup: Tony Parker, DeJuan Blair, Tim Duncan, Richard Jefferson, Danny Green
Bench: Matt Bonner, Kwalhi Leonard, Gary Neal, James Anderson, Cory Joseph
X’s and O’s:
The Spurs do a lot of things well. They rebound, pass, shoot the three and play with a quick tempo. They also defend, protect the paint and play the pick-and-roll well. The Blazers can find solace in feeding LaMarcus and hitting a few open shots here and there to spread the floor. On defense, they will need to contain Tony Parker. He has looked unstoppable during this eleven game stretch. The match-up for him against Felton is really going to be in his favor so look for Batum to slide over oftenand guard Parker.
Advantage Blazers:
With Tim Duncan looking older and older, and Tiago Splitter injured, Aldridge will have a huge advantage against the Spurs. He should be able to attack the basket at will and grab lots of rebounds. Another advantage Aldridge has is that he always plays well against San Antonio. The Blazers will be at home and the crowd should really support the team and Aldridge.
Last Words:
This will be the last game for the Blazers before the all-star break so there should be no reason they leave anything out on the court. They should scrap, hustle, and give everything they have to win. It would be a huge boost of momentum to end the Spur’s eleven game winning streak and head into the all-star break with a record above .500.
