The 2012 Portland Iditarod takes place this Saturday, coming a bit early than the usual March date. Registration of 100 teams sold out in just 8 minutes, but below you will find a list of vantage points to catch the race and the DANCE PARTY. Many people will be participating and following who did not register as always.

In the Alaskan Iditarod, more than sixty dog sled teams race across the frozen tundra from Anchorage to Nome. In our urban version, teams of ¬Ëœdogs' lead by a musher will pull their sleds (shopping carts) through some of Portland's most scenic areas. These teams of barking humans must negotiate through the unrelenting and unforgiving dangers of Portland's urban frontier.
As an incentive to run, dogs and mushers alike will have several ¬Ëœrest stops' to replenish lost fluids and discuss tales of mayhem. The course is over four miles, so dogs and mushers alike need to be ready and able to run their tails off.
This year’s Iditarod course is more rugged than ever. Here are some spots to see the action:
- 12:45 p.m. – Teams will be crossing the Hawthorne Bridge on the Westbound Sidewalk
- 1:45 p.m. – Teams will be moving North at Waterfront Park from the Morrison Bridge tot he Burnside Bridge
- 3:00 p.m. – Teams will be crossing the Steel Bridge and moving South down the Eastbank Esplanade
- 3:15 p.m. – Join Teams at the finish line dance party at SE Main with The Joy Ride party bus, https://www.facebook.com/pdxjoyride
- 4:00 p.m. – Head to the Grand Cafe for the Apre Ski Party
