The Freak Mountain Ramblers are a deeply-rooted part of the Portland music scene and are the torch-bearers of a particular kind of psychedelic Americana that's as comfortable in a crowded bar as it is a festival stage. Wayward Vessel is an adventurous alternative acoustic ensemble exploring the boundaries of bluegrass and folk music.
With superb musicianship and lush, natural vocal harmonies, the band creates a unique palette to portray their rich library of original and traditional music. Wayward Vessel was born when Ken Chapple (guitar) and Julie Schmidt (fiddle) met at a bluegrass pickin'
session in SE Portland in 2009.
It was immediately obvious that the two musicians had a connection, and began to go to work composing, arranging and jamming around the clock. In 2011, Ken and Julie joined forces with two Portland friends, Josiah Payne (mandolin) and Belinda Underwood (bass) who complete the current lineup.

i wanna get down at the goodfoot!
All my friends recommend the Freak Mountain Ramblers. I’d love to see them. The Goodfoot be a great venue to see them in too.
i am a freak and i need to get my mountain rambler on
I love acoustic! This would be a perfect band to go check out!
i need to swing and twirl and dance and only you can make that possible. please let me get my freak on, you can never NEVER have to much bluegrass
Hubby and I are bluegrass fans, so I’d love to win this
Freak Geek Alert! I really dig these guys and haven’t seen for awhile. I’m sorry I missed their last St. Patty’s Day show and would like to make up for it by knocking knees at the Foot.
Man…it’s been awhile since I’ve been to the Goodfoot. Love that little venue. Also haven’t caught up with Freak in awhile, so that’s a plus. Can’t say I’ve heard Wayward Vessel yet, but the write-up sounds great and I love thier name.
In short: would love to go
GET YOUR FREAK ON???!!!…..
ummmmm..YES PLEASE!!!!!
love the Goodfoot!!!..and LOVE to dance!!!
woooooooooohooooooooooooo..i would LOVE to go :)
I would like to win tickets because I designed their poster for the gig and haven’t been out in a while. I have a newborn and two older children and haven’t been able to see Wayward Vessel yet live although we listen to their cd often at home.
My friend’s bachelorette festivities should include the Freak Mountain Ramblers for sure!
I would love to get my dance on!
I’m a fan of neopsychadelic, but I haven’t heard these folks yet. It would be a great excuse to hit the Goodfoot up again!
All my man rambles on about is this freakin’ band. I told him we would go, but I blew my week’s wad on video poker.
Wayward Vessel deserves this headline; they are superb! Combine a guitar, a fiddle, a mandolin, and the ol’ up-right and we got us a jam. Together with Freak Mountain and the Water Tower boys and it’s a flippin’ party! I will be there and would love to save my $14 for the bar. Please…
doesn’t get better than this, supporting local musicians
If I was on death row and tomorrow Midnight was my destiny, my last wish would be to see the Freak Mountain Ramblers tonight.
