Starlight Parade Route, Trimet Info:

Fron our sponsors @ Rose Fest:
Starlight Parade, PortlandStarlight Parade
Saturday, June 2, 2012 | 9-11PM
Downtown Portland

The 2012 The Portland General Electric/SOLVE Starlight Parade offers funky, eclectic fun for the whole family. One of our most popular events, the parade draws more than 250,000 spectators to downtown Portland, and is also broadcast live from 9:00 – 11:00 p.m. on FOX 12.

With the wide variety of entries, we will have something for every Portlander. From traditional marching bands and flood-lit floats, to glow-in-the-dark umbrellas and hand-built entries, you’ll see the best of Portland’s diverse community groups and entries from the surrounding Northwest region.

2012 Parade Sections

The “Spirit of the West” section (part of the first illuminated Rose Festival parades in the 1900s) returns in 2012, presented by Spirit Mountain Casino and filled with floats representing communities around Oregon and Washington. The final section of the Parade, “Portlandia,” will showcase everything unique and funky that Portland has to offer!

Celebrating ‘Clean and Green’

Thanks to the efforts of our sponsors, Portland General Electric and SOLVE and many volunteers, you’ll find this parade to be one of the cleanest in America. Watch before the parade for volunteers handing out bags to help keep litter and recyclables off our streets. Right after the last parade entry, keep your eyes peeled for our post-parade clean up crew — filled with volunteers and professionals — who pick up trash and wash our streets clean!

  2. Scott Grady May 31, 2012 at 12:43 #

Churros, cotton candy, Nochos and rides to mix them all together- I call that a good weekend!

  3. Socorro May 31, 2012 at 12:48 #

I would love to win this because it’s my weekend with the kids and they would absolutely love to go to the festival and enjoy the rides.
    thanks

  4. Jonathan Hoffman May 31, 2012 at 12:49 #

I have been in Portland, OR three years and have never been to any of the Rose Festival events! I would love to go if you have any more tickets?

  5. Nyssa May 31, 2012 at 13:05 #

I’ve lived in Portland all my life and NEVER been to the Rose Festival! My family and friends and I always planned to go, but somehow never made it. Money is tight this year so I probably won’t make it again, except for walking along the waterfront to see the backside of the fair–I’ll definitely do that again! It’s my own personal Rose Festival Tradition.

  6. Zenda Torrey May 31, 2012 at 13:07 #

    Hey PDXer,

It seems as of late my 17 year old son actually doesn’t mind being seen in public with me…woohoo…..so I would love to take my kids down for some good ol’ PDX fun!!!

    Pick me :) Z

  7. Megan May 31, 2012 at 13:11 #

Sounds like a fun thing to do with the family, winning free tickets leaves more money for spending on vendors!

  8. Holly May 31, 2012 at 13:40 #

I would love to take my son on some rides! :)

  9. Danni May 31, 2012 at 13:47 #

I’m going today, but I want to go again tomorrow and the next day :) please please please

  10. Jerry May 31, 2012 at 13:57 #

    Ride ALL THE RIDES!!!

  11. Jennifer May 31, 2012 at 14:56 #

id love to attend because i never have! ive lived here since 1999 and have never been to the rose festival or parade or anything. finally this year i hope to have the opportunity. we are a family of 5 (3 children) and extravagances like this just are not in our single income budget, but with your opportunity for us to maybe get to go for free, we would get the chance to enjoy it for the FIRST TIME EVER!

    thank you!!! <3

  12. Monica May 31, 2012 at 15:05 #

I have lived in the area for the last 5 years, and have not had the opportunity to experience the full Rose Festival and parade. I can’t afford to go this year with my family of 5, and would love to have the opportunity to attend. I work downtown, and passing by the rides each day makes me long for the opportunity.

  13. Maddy May 31, 2012 at 15:22 #

My kids really want to go, but who can afford to take them all? I would really look like a WINNER :)

  14. Lisa May 31, 2012 at 15:53 #

    I love carnival rides!

  15. Sarah May 31, 2012 at 15:55 #

I’d love to take my kids!

  16. Nathan Lattanzi May 31, 2012 at 15:55 #

My best friend will have just finished taking his MCATs test that he has been preparing for the last 5 months! He could use a nice celebration with some great friends. I think it would be awesome to take him to the Rose Festival! Thanks for considering me and allowing us this opportunity to win!

  17. Joleen May 31, 2012 at 15:57 #

I’d like to win SOMETHING, because it’s so cool how Portland throws me a parade and a party on my birthday weekend every year. They can’t really say it’s for me, since that would make the little kids feel bad….but I know it is. It IS, really!!

  18. LaceFace May 31, 2012 at 16:00 #

I’d like to win because I’ve never had the chance to go to the parade and have been in ill health in the past and would love to be able to ride all the rides this year!

  19. gayleen williams May 31, 2012 at 16:05 #

The hubby is coming home for the weekend! I’m unemployed and he is working out of state for the summer. This would be an awesome weekend for us if we could be at the festival with our family.

  20. daVe May 31, 2012 at 16:10 #

would be perfect. neighbor and her kids want to go with me and mine. we make five…yippee!

  21. Liberty Martinez May 31, 2012 at 16:12 #

My four year old niece is coming to town for her first big city experience. We would love four sets of tickets to help her enjoy the festival and the parade!

  22. Kamela Kern May 31, 2012 at 16:12 #

I would love to take my kids to the parade & head to the festival afterwards. Thank you for the opportunity.

  23. Chicmom3 May 31, 2012 at 16:12 #

Going to the starlight parade and winning tickets for our family of 5 would be the best weekend ever!!

  24. Tiffany May 31, 2012 at 16:13 #

Because I’d like to subvert and liberate the assumptions of the dominant through humor and chaos :D

  25. Dana Wales May 31, 2012 at 16:14 #

I would love to win for a fun night out with the SO.

  26. Michele May 31, 2012 at 16:19 #

Would love to win this because the Festival is fun but expensive!!!! Ouch!

  27. Jamie May 31, 2012 at 16:21 #

RIDES!!! I want to ride every. single. one. Love the Rose Festival, but rides are too expensive for me to indulge in them :( Would love to win!

  28. Kate May 31, 2012 at 16:32 #

My kids love rides, but the witch of a mom that I am always denies them this truly American opportunity because they cost too much.

  29. indipendance May 31, 2012 at 16:32 #

I promise if I win, I will make this a super cheesey double date, that ends with me puking cotton candy over the side of the twirl&hurl. *grin*

  30. Angel May 31, 2012 at 16:34 #

The Rose Festival is a special time for me and my new husband because our first date was to the Starlight Parade… and having never been down to the carnival and rides, that would be a great way to celebrate our first year of newlywed bliss :)

  31. Roberto May 31, 2012 at 16:34 #

I need a parade that doesn’t get rained on!!

  32. birdonit May 31, 2012 at 16:40 #

I’ve never been to the Rose Festival, and I think it’s time to face my fear of cliche flowers and large crowds. As a bonus, I finally know four people, so the passes won’t go to waste.

  33. New Navy Wife May 31, 2012 at 16:45 #

I would live to win these tickets because my Husband is leaving for Navy Boot Camp next month and we are trying to spend as much “civilian” time together while we still can. I am an Oregon native and expect this to be my last summer in Oregon for a while! Thanks!

  34. Sturatt May 31, 2012 at 17:40 #

Can’t wait! These parades are amazing.

  35. Catherine May 31, 2012 at 18:19 #

I Would love to win because my husband is so busy with school and we need a date night!

  36. Stephanie May 31, 2012 at 18:51 #

The Rose Festival is one of the best things about Portland! I would love to go!

  42. mary bauer May 31, 2012 at 20:08 #

twirling about , being dropped from a mega drop, she smiled, the wind in her face, throwing balls at pins and taking home the big stuffed animal and now she knows nirvana.

  45. Michelle Paul May 31, 2012 at 21:06 #

I would love to take my family to the rose festival on the waterfront. My husband and I usually take our 3 children, but money is tighter this year, so it wasn’t in the plans. This would be a real treat!

  46. Nanci May 31, 2012 at 21:10 #

We have never been and my 9 and 4 year old really want to go!!

  47. Kimberly May 31, 2012 at 21:19 #

I would love to make it to rose festival for the first time!

  49. Faith May 31, 2012 at 21:43 #

We would love free tickets to rides at the festival. Why? You ask? Because we can’t afford it otherwise. My lil is 7 and hasn’t been to the waterfront festival yet!! That is why :D

  50. Catherine Matsuura May 31, 2012 at 22:21 #

This will be the first time in attending the festival i would feel so blessed.

  51. Andrew May 31, 2012 at 22:24 #

So, I don’t have kids, I don’t have a sob story, I’ve gone to the parade and waterfront festival the last 20 years. I’ll go this year. I will take my wife and friends, who will also probably go with me anyway. I mean, really, you don’t even have to pay to have fun down there during the festival and it shocks me that people haven’t been.

But, damn, that new swing ride looks sick and I’d love some free tickets.

  52. Daphne May 31, 2012 at 22:55 #

Wouldst a Rose by any other name, smell as sweet,
As 5 tickets, the Parade, and a tasty treat!

  57. Sheila Baraga June 1, 2012 at 07:38 #

Hi there Pdxpipeline! Thanks for the great job you do getting the word out so we can all enjoy what’s going on in our wonderful city. I have your link posted in my traveller’s rooms and they use it all the time.
My 13 year old daughter went to a wedding with her dad in Louisiana last week. While there he was putting up with a terrible headache and on Saturday night he collapsed and was rushed by ambulance to Lady of the Lake Hospital where they did a cat scan and discover a tumor behind his left eye. They have removed the growth (on his pituatary gland) but she had to fly home alone and is now very worried about him as he has to stay for another 2 weeks before he and his wife can drive back. Although Addie is a tough girl and very capable in times of trouble, she is very worried about him (they expect a full recovery). I would like very much to take her mind off of all that is happening. We plan to take our bikes down to the parade in the morning but it would be excellent to take her to the to the waterfront rides as well. Thank you for considering us. We’ll see you at the parade! 59. Manda Panda June 1, 2012 at 09:09 #

I’ve been to the parades and Waterfront festival every year since I was a small child. It’s an ongoing tradition, even when we can’t afford it. This is one of those years…we’ll go to the parades, check out the floats, watch the dragon boats and then have free fun outside of the festival fairway.

Sigh…unless we win entrance tickets! Then I’ll get to play the colored, floating duckies game!!! Love that game.

  60. Mandy June 1, 2012 at 09:13 #

Simple: To celebrate roses in the best city in the world!

  61. Son June 1, 2012 at 09:41 #

  62. MattnTaryl June 1, 2012 at 09:42 #

Roses are red, Violets are blue, I like Portland, How ’bout you?
Roses are pink, Starlight is white, I like how you think, This parade in the night.
Roses in bloom, Parades of such fun, If I had tickets, down this freeway I would run,
All the while yelling, “I won! I won!!”

    :D

  63. Aimee M June 1, 2012 at 09:50 #

Oh Please Please. I would love to be able to give these to my sister and her family as they recently had unexpected medical expenses and will be missing out on this festival. It was going to be their 1st year going but now due to lack of money they cant. I would love to surprise them all and put a smile on all their downed faces.

  64. Rachel June 1, 2012 at 11:21 #

I love the Rose Festival. It would be really fun to have tickets so that I could take my nieces. I don’t think they’ve ever been! They would love it!

My 6 year old daughter and i have made the starlight parade one of our annual traditions! I wanted to take her on the ferris wheel to see from the ” top of the world ” but the admission price for me was more than my limited budget will allow, especially this year.

  71. Eli June 1, 2012 at 17:07 #

    Yay!

  72. Laura June 2, 2012 at 12:12 #
