SBS Imports and the Seattle Beer Collective are pleased to announce the return of Cider Summit NW Festival to Portland, OR. The second annual Portland event will be on Saturday, June 23, 2012 from 11am‐7pm at Elizabeth Caruthers Park in the emerging South Waterfront neighborhood near the Portland Aerial Tram. The event is presented by Barbur World Foods & Bushwhacker Cider.
This will be the fourth Cider Summit produced by SBS & Seattle Beer Collective, having launched the concept in Seattle in September 2010 and expanding to Portland last year. Each event features 50+ elegantly crafted ciders from producers in Washington, Oregon, British Columbia, California, England, and France. This year’s event will also feature Spain’s Basque Region. Other new features for 2012 include live music and a “bottles to go” store onsite.
The owners and cidermakers will be on hand to inform and guide guests through the samplings which will be available in 3‐ounce and 6‐ounce portions. In addition to the superb range of ciders, the event will feature food from SE Portland’s Ya Hala restaurant, ongoing demonstrations of apple pressing courtesy of Bushwhacker and non‐alcoholic beverages from Maletis Beverage. The Portland Aerial Tram will be offering 2‐for‐1 rides to event attendees and Cider Summit NW encourages use of the Portland Streetcar to the event
Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 (cash only) at the door and are available online via Brown Paper tickets, Umpqua Bank’s South Waterfront branch, and at many of the area’s leading bottle shops. Admission includes a tasting glass and 10 drink tickets. From 11a‐12n arriving guests will receive 2 additional “happy hour” tickets. Additional drink tickets will be available for sale onsite at $2 per ticket. The event is 21 and over only. Dogs will be allowed on event grounds. I love ciders! I love E. Caruthers park! And I love YOU if you pick me to go!!! (who am I kidding, I kinda love you anyway…. :) )
I went last year and it was so much fun! I would love love love to go again!!
Cider!
Looking forward to seeing the local selections!
The best thing about apples is cider! Pick me!
Cider is one of my favorite alcoholic drinks. I am new to Portland and would love to attend.
would love the opportunity to try lots of different types of ciders!
Living with gluten intolerance in city filled with beer festivals & breweries–Being able to enjoy this event would make my summer!
This would be the perfect summer event to share with my new love
Whats not to like about cider? I love it all :)
i love cider and this would be so neat. I’ve never even heard of a cider festival. Please and Thank You!
I love cider! I’m not a beer drinker– I’ve never liked it much– but cider is a different story. I just moved to Portland last week and am wanting to check out local events– this sounds so fun!! I’d love to go!
I’m the “weirdo” who doesn’t really like Beer. I shouldn’t even LIVE in the NW, right? Haha. BUt I LOVE a good cider. I just heard about this event today and would love to try it out. Plus can bring the new guy in my life and perhaps we can even check out the tram! So like the apple at its peak ripeness, “pick me!”
Cidar time is the right time
How cool! I’ve never ridden the aerial tram not have i attended a cider festival. I’d love to attend and learn what cider has to offer. I promise to ride the streetcar there, too!
Ciders are my favorite and I would love to get to this tasting!
The first cider I ever had was in NW France, called Pression, and I loved it. Now I’ve moved to NW Portland and want to taste the wonders from here!
I’m taking an ethnographic approach to the summit – why do people prefer cider over other beverages and what stories, technologies, and histories to we bring to our cider drinking in the Pacific Northwest. Maybe I can write something up post-summit about the ‘Anthropology of Cider’.
Beer has its own anthropology:

and its own archaeology:

Why shouldn’t northwest cider??? : )
Huge cider fan and June 19th just happens to be my b-day. :)
I’m very ex-cider to go!
We spend significant amounts of money on good beers and ciders every year, it would be fantastic to learn about new brands!! We also have a toddler, and he desperately needs us to go out so he can have messy play time with Grandma.
This would make my summer
I LOVE cider! I’m the only one of my friends who will order it when we go out, but then everyone likes trying all the different ones I get. This is PERFECT for me. :)
Ciders are my favorite and I’ve been wanting to go to this summit. I can’t wait to go!
Beer fests are great, but my girlfriend has an allergy to hops, so they aren’t really her cup of tea. This event would be an awesome chance to experience the craft brew culture without the itchy throat and headache to accompany her.
I go to beer fests for the ciders, so this is perfect.
Pretty please with an apple on top!!!
missed the fruitbeer fest so this would be a great way to make up for it
i’ll just be wrapping up a deadline that’s been keeping me indoors most all of june…please help me celebrate by getting my pasty self out into the light!
I just want to be a winner. Winner, winner, chicken dinner.
Yes! Ciders are my all time favorite adult beverage!
Holy crap this sounds amazing!
Oooh, PICK ME!!
I have been getting into the cider industry the past year due to a gluten intolerance…. this has been a great alternative for me and I absolutely would love to go to this event. I have been to plenty of brew fest this would be a first for cider for me!
Whats better than a crisp, refreshing cider on a warm summer day? 50 of them!
Cider is the only alcohol my boyfriend actually likes, so I am very happy to hear of a cider fest after all the many beer and wine fests!
Cider is delicious! Hook me and my gluten-free friends up!
Would love to win – cider is my favorite drink.
I already have my ticket and I’m SOOO EXCITED cuz I love cider and I hate beer and beer is everywhere and cider is almost nowhere. If I win I can take more of my friends with me to appreciate the Gluten free awesomeness that is cider!
I LOVE cider & my boyfriend is going to school to become a brewer, so he LOVES beer, I’m slowly but surely getting him into cider & this would be a wonderful opportunity to get him even more accustomed! :)
This sounds great~would love to go!!! PICK ME PLEASE :)
Winning tickets to this event would make my summer!
Tickets please
Love cider, just love it, absolutely love it, totally.
Because cider is so much better than beer. There, I said it.
I would love to go but can’t afford to because I can’t find a job in Portland!
I would love to check this out! It’s going in the weekend before my birthday & my boyfriend will be visiting from out of town, so it’s be a great way to spend time together & have fun!
Beer makes me bloat! Please help my cause…
mmmmm…cider, yummy!
Fun, I’d like to go!
This sounds so fun, and a great way for me and my honey to get to know Portland, since we are new to the area. She is a cider-maniac, as well.
Yes please! First time in Portland and what other better ways to start than with cider?!
cider rules
I love cider.
I’d love to go to the Cider Summit for two reasons…J love everything I’ve read by John Irving including The Cider House Rules and I love that Moe* (of Moe, Larry & Curly) said “I’ll squeeze the cider out of your adam’s apple.”
Just the idea of the Cider Summit makes me feel nostalgic. Thank you for all your good work.

Whoa, how did I not know about this event till just now. I basically came back to Oregon for the cider. Thanks for the information! I’d thank you even more if you gave me those tickets.
When it comes to cider, I’d like to be an “insider”
Been to lots of beer and wine festivals, but never a cider festival, so this would be awesome!
I have never been to a cider festival but I love cider! Sounds like a lot of fun.
My parents were vacationing on the east coast and one of my dad’s favorite things was the cool crisp cider they tried at several stops. It was fresh and right out of the barrel. It still sounds awesome to this day!! This looks like a special treat that I would treasure.
My best friend Beth loves cider AND it’s her birthday next week! Happy birthday Beth from PDX Pipeline!
Since moving to Portland I’ve become a true beer snob. I’d now like to become a cider snob.
As a beer lover and brewer, finding out that I’m gluten intolerant has brought a lot of changes to my beverages of choice- I would love to go to this summit and learn more about all the cider options.
Yummy, I’ve been looking for events That weekend for when i’m in town :-)
Got Scrumpy!
I have a rare Saturday off work! Would love to enjoy great cider to celebrate!
Never been to a cider event!
I would love to go. This event is on my birthday and since I am new to the city and don’t know anyone yet, this would be a fun way to meet people.
I want to drink like a founding father.
Yummmm cider
Summer+Cider+Aerial Tram = a great day!
I lived in England for 4 years and grew to love cider there. Coming back to Portland made me appreciate it. My partner Brian and I make our own cider every fall. This last year we made an oaked, agave, cherry and strawberry. This will be my first year attending this event and I’m very excited!
My girlfriends a big cider fan I’d love to take her.
What a great alt’ to beer for those allergic to gluten – I wanna go!
Cider! Free tickets would just encourage me to remember to go.
My son is in town for the weekend and we would LOVE to go to this!!!
Crisp and clean are thy cider
A fave of this imbiber.
When tasted for free
Such a pleasure for me
My smile could be none the wider.
Cider is tasty. I’ve had some really good stuff in Ireland and would like to sample some good local and others stuff, too.
Says winner will be picked monday the 19th, if they haven’t been yet since today is tuesday the 19th, i’d like to ante in. :)
i’m not a big beer fan, but i really enjoy a good cider. there are so many to choose from and such great local vendors, i can’t wait to go and check out and find new favorites.
F
Super excited to go! Last year was a blast. By the way, did you mean Tuesday, June 19?
Currently brewing cider for my buddy’s wedding and would love to try some of these for comparison. You guys rock!
fill me up with some cider sippage! my goal? drink just enough cider to fail the captchas. (hint: won’t take much. fail ‘em half the time sober anyhow;)
I need to be there to properly honor the selfless sacrifice that all those apples did on our behalf. Pome fruit, we salute you!
This sounds delcious! I would love to toast to the summer solstice at this Cider Summit. It would be my first ever Cider event!
I am a cider snob, or conessieur…..I absolutely love cider in all of its forms and love introducing others to the world of tasty beverages. Help me bring others to this great event!
Would love to pick some brains for some homebrew tips.
Gulp gulp pause. Repeat.
I don’t have a cool health related reason like gluten. I do however think most beer is just icky with a few exceptions and I prefer cider and wine. I love the south waterfront area and if I cared more about making lots of money I’d be living there right now!
I love cider! This sounds like so much fun!
I love the richness of cider, and I really want to learn how to pair cider with food. As a Dietitan, I teach best health with food. And heart health includes apples along with grapes. I am a big promoter of local foods, local farmers and producers. Pick me, I want to see Portlandia in it’s finest moment
Cider can be almost anything with sugar and the possibilities amaze me. This is the perfect summer festival.
Hi. My name’s Eve. Please, get me kicked out of Eden.
Why would I like to attend such a lovely event?
… because apples are awesome!! :D
Hey you pick me… It’s sound fun.
Sir Isaac Newton caused some shit with an apple. I am able to do the same.
I Loooooooooove Cider.
Would love to taste the non-sweet ciders…me and my partner are Glutards and haven’t found a dry enough one yet.
