Nomadic Ephemera w/ Jef Stott, DJ Anjali, GlobalRuckus, Plantrae
Saturday, June 30, 2012
8 p.m. | $7 | 21+
125 Northwest 5th Avenue Portland, OR 97209
Ruckus World, SijaPDX, and Bridgetown Revue present: A night of undulating music, performance, and dance! An Album release party for world fusion artist Jef Stott!
Jef Stott (SF, Hookahdome, 6 Degrees Records)
Stott has been deftly navigating the realms of world fusion music for over a decade, where he has consistently been at the forefront of the International Global Bass movement. He is releasing his 10th full length studio production ARCANA in April 2012 on Six Degrees records. He works and performs with master musicians and dancers from the Middle East, Northern Africa, the Balkans and India. Jef is also a highly accomplished multi instrumentalist adding a live performance element to his live shows with Arabic string and percussion instruments, guitars, bass and live dub effects.
DJ Anjali (PDX, Andaz/Atlas)
Since her Portland club debut in 2000, DJ Anjali has existed as the city’s primary advocate (and dance missionary) for the many varied electronic sounds of the South Asian diaspora. Along with her partner, The Incredible Kid, they introduced “bhangra” & “Bollywood” to the dance floors of Portland.
GlobalRuckus (PDX, Hookahdome)
Portland’s trans-continental groove maniac. Spinning world beats at parties since the early 90s, and in particular at Burning Man since 1998 with the Pyromid, Dustfish and the Hookah Dome, GlobalRuckus has never been afraid to play songs that fall far outside of what people expect to hear from DJs. Favoring high energy world party music or perhaps the type of music you’d hear at traditional weddings around the world, he works the dance floor into a frenzy playing klezmer, Balkan, calypso, New Orleans brass band, mariachi, bhangra, cumbia, Arabic hip hop, Asian baile funk, and more.
Plantrae (PDX, Hoya)
After years of exploration in electronic music and acoustic viola, Zak Hoya has finally intertwined both in an imaginative new project, Plantrae. Comprised of a funky, stretchy midtempo foundation, and live viola improvisation that borrows from classical, swing, and folk, Plantrae is a fresh, unique and playful sound experience.
Live Performance Showcase by Bridgetown Revue at 9pm with vaudeville, bellydance, and more!
