On September 8 at the Roseland Theatre in Portland, OR, music fans at MusicfestNW will experience something never-before-seen on a concert stage: a back-to-back-to-back performance from Dinosaur Jr., Sebadoh and J Mascis. The groundbreaking show serves as the pilot for Red Bull Common Thread, a new music series dedicated to putting multiple iterations of bands with shared members on a single stage on one night.
In a landscape where musical groups commonly have members explore projects outside of their original lineup, Red Bull Common Thread serves as conduit to bring them all together and celebrate both their similarities and their differences. For the first Red Bull Common Thread, the familial lineage is based off of progenitor Dinosaur Jr. and offshoots J Mascis (solo project of front man J Mascis) and Sebadoh (a three-man group featuring bassist Lou Barlow).
Celebrating the rich and complex musical history these bands have created, a Red Bull Common Thread Pop-Up Shop will come to Portland and will live at The Annex (200 SE Broadway) from Tuesday, September 4 through Sunday, September 9. From imagery to instruments to exclusive video footage, the 1,135 square foot space will feature all of the common threads that tie together the lives of J Mascis, Sebadoh and Dinosaur Jr. The space is open to the public and is free to peruse.
Friday 9/7/2012, 7:30-8:30pm: School of Rock Performance, $5 suggested donation benefits PROWUS, a Portland non-profit, that supports students of performance-based rock programs in the Portland area.
Saturday 9/8/2012 3:00-4:00pm: Autograph signing with Dinosaur Jr., Sebadoh, and J Mascis.

Would love to go! Need a night out!! :)
I want to go because Dino Jr. are always part of my summer soundtrack and it would be nice to hear them not coming from computer speakers.
I’ve been listening to Sebadoh for 20 years and would love the chance to finally see them live! I’ll even promise to wear ear-plugs like a responsible adult.
OK, I really can’t can’t keep that promise…
Pick me. Pick me. I’ll wear a Loobiecore black arm band.
Damn that BUG jumped on me when I was considering the Several Shades of Why.
Maybe this didn’t actually happen because it was The Freed Weed making Harmacy out of Martin + Me, at least this is the thought that is on my Green Mind.
Common threads, i wear them all the time.
Thanks!
early 1990′s NYC….20 something. I saw Dinosaur Jr in the Roseland Ballroom in NYC, Sebadoh at Irving Plaza and the Bowery Ballroom. early 2000′s…. 30 something. I watched Lou Barlow in lonely dark nooks in Portland including the Pine Street Theater and Doug Fir. 2010′s….nearing 40. Want to see them at Roseland Theater in Portland and come full circle for the next decade.
I would love to see Dino Jr. because I lost my virginity listening to them, in the back of my moms station wagon, while camping. I’m sure tons of bears were watching. :/
Because You’re Living All Over Me is the best album ever created
I want to rock out with the great music of J
My brain just melted and leaked out of my ears.
Dinosaur Jr is gonna be dino-mite! My girlfriend and I will definitely be there if you’ve got tickets to spare!! :D
<3 PDXPIPELINE!!!
My fiancee and I just moved here two weeks ago and she’s from the same town as J Mascis! Been going to his shows forever and cannot miss this one!
YAY SHOULD BE GREAT
This would be such an awesome flashback show!!! Yay reliving my youth!
Hey, I lived in Northampton, MA when Dino Jr. and Sebadoh were giant! Have always loved there stuff and Bug is still one of my favorite albums. It would be great to see them all again!
Cheers,
Jon
I’m only in Portland for a little while and this would be a dream come true to seen Dinosaur Jr!
Magical trip could be even better!
Thanks,
Will
oh this would be super.. never seen Dinosaur Jr live before.
I moved back to Portland 3 months ago and have only seen one show so far… I would love to go!
If being an original fan matters, then I have to note that I first saw Dinosaur Jr. before they were legally required to add “Jr.” to their moniker. I saw them and Kilslug at Green Street Station in Jamaica Plain, MA. (Doesn’t make me any cooler than anyone else vying for tickets – just gives me an anecdote to share.)
Additional anecdote: I saw Sebadoh at The Derby in LA.
However, speaking objectively, I vote for Hannah having the best reason …
grew up on both bands, and unlike many of the bands that were the shite in the day, dino jr and j mascis can still put out quality albums. one of the few acts from then i’d love to catch live now.
back from extinction!
Well, crack the amber and let me in! It’d be a thrill to chill with Dinosaur Jr., and track the evolution of Mascis.
diggin’ on the dinosaur since ’88
J.Mascis is a legend, Id love to catch him finally!!
I can’t believe this show is happening – wow! This is a once in a lifetime experience! I have fond memories of playing all three when I was a DJ in college. Would love to see all three acts together!
This is the one show coming up that I’m really fracking excited for and I can’t afford the tix – I would love to go!!!
My boss is seriously the worst person on earth. OK, let’s be clear: I’m in no position to state this as a fact; but he’s gotta be in the top million or so. He’s all yelly and mean and uptight. On top of that, the Republicans have all media tied up this week, adding their particular brand of stank to the biosphere. What does this have to do with anything, you ask the steady1? Well, J.M. plays SO FREAKING LOUD that there’s a good chance I can lose my hearing for good and thereby eliminate all the gross haps from my inner ears. Plus if I win I’ll call you personally to thank you via assisted deaf dude phone service thingy. You can’t be gettin’ that every day!
Hannah? Is that you? OMG! I remember that night. I got a cheeseburger wrapper stuck to my ass. Oh man. If I win you wanna go with? You know for the whole flashback!
Kim kim kim…let’s not be greedy and LIE about who Hannah was with that night. Everyone knows it was ME and you just need to back -off!
If you pick me, I will definitely take you Hannah. kiss kiss
I have never been to the MusicFestNW and this would be a great start!
Just Dinosaur Jr would be enough. The wife even says i can go out if I win tickets!
i fell madly in love with this girl who put freak scene on my mix tape…
an eve with J + Jr….priceless
I would love to share one of my favorite bands licmve with my son, pick us.
I would like to win tickets for my husband as he is a big fan of Dinosaur Jr.
what a show it would be…
I’ve never been to MusicFest and would love to go!
This is awesome, definitely my top show at MFNW!
I’ve already had one kidney removed on a bet to see one of these bands. I am prepared to lose the other for this show.
I want to see them all. Awesome line up
There are various reason for why I’d like to go, including listening to Dinosaur Jr. for 20 years, but the most importantly my wife and I need a night out! Why is it so important that we get a night out? Her parents are coming to visit from Mexico and will be staying in our small house with us for the next 3 weeks. Surely we are going to need a break from that. Love my in-laws but seriously? 3 weeks?
Dinosaur Jr. was my first favorite band and is definitely at the top of my all time list! They have an amazing set of songs and I’ve never had the chance to see them live!!! I want to go SO BAD! They rock…
Hannah? Toby?!! You said I was the only one that night!
Never seen Dino Jr. live, and would love to have the chance now.
This sounds like an amazing show! Plus, I’ve never been to the Roseland and would love a reasons to check it out. Pick me!
Below me.
When I listen to Dinosaur Jr. in my living room my cat spins around in circles and meows. I think it’s her way of dancing. I would take my cat to the show if they’d let me.
You should give me these tickets because J.Mascus and Dinosaur Jr are awesome. I would be stoked to see them more than anyone else who has written a comment so far. I have never gotten a chance to see them so this would make all my dreams come true. I would love Red Bull and Pdx Pipeline foreva! <3 Camille
Also sebadoh is the shit. I would be just as thrilled to see them. I would buy tickets for two separate shows to see Dinosaur Jr. and Sebahdoh if I had the money.
just moved here from California and i might say this website is awesome. san diego never gives away free bees just by leaving a comment.. it would be great to have theses tickets for sure, thanks :)
I’d like to see Dino Jr. because I’m T-Rexy and I know it.
I haven’t been able to catch any of these bands yet and I’m curious how this fusion of styles will play out. It sounds rad and I could use a little hipster in my weekend!
oooo this sounds like quite an experience… I haven’t been to the Roseland in a while, don’t they have a bar upstairs?
I was going to write how much I’d like to go to this show because of blah and blah, but then I saw the sad post written by Camille up there a couple of posts. Literally, all of her dreams will come true if she can go and for some, extremely sad reason (I’m guessing), she is willing to just have her dreams pass her by instead of just paying $25 for a ticket. Not judging, but maybe she should go so she can create bigger and better dreams.
But, in reality, I’d love to check this show out, though I have an odd feeling that getting to the bar in the Roseland during MFNW is going to be hell.
I wanna go. I really really wanna go. I’ve never seen any of those bands.
The last time I saw Sebadoh was at La Luna in 1996.
La Luna may be no longer- but I am still radically here and so is Sebadoh!
This is my birthday week and these tickets are my birthday destiny!! Make it so, please.
