We’re beyond thrilled to announce our next Back Fence PDX storytelling show in all its shimmering nerd-y goodness!
As always we have an amazing lineup of storytellers ready to tell never-been-told-before true stories based on the theme HASHTAG NERD. From Portland: Iron Man comic book scribe, MATT FRACTION, Best Selling Thriller writer, CHELSEA CAIN, Co-host along with Felicia Day of a Geek & Sundry podcast, KIALA KAZEBEE, and Former High School Mathlete GABE CARLETON-BARNES. From Seattle: Jezebel staff writer LINDY WEST and math genius/creator of video games, BRUCE OBERG.
As always, there will be free cupcakes at intermission from Saint Cupcake. Come early for drinks and dinner before we get our nerd on!

All my friends are going and I don’t have a ticket. It’s not in my budget this month. Maybe I’ll win some!
Because I’m becoming a little obsessed with Matt Fraction thanks to the Hawkeye comics.
Because I have to come out to my date as a professional nerd and I’d rather do it in a safe space. If the evening doesn’t go well I’ll have more money to spend on whiskey.
Long live the bards! This sounds fantastic, and needed.. as in, my soul needs this, or something. Both my boyfriend and I are writers. Well, we’d like to think we are, but we have that whole “…” syndrome happening to us (it’s terrible, don’t even ask) and we need some inspiration. Also, laughs. Also, raised spirits. Also, pretty please, with however many cherries you like of organic or non-organic origins.
As a sorta-geek on the nerd- fringe, and frequent NPR and TWIT listener, I am demographically destined to derive delight from these stories.

Who wouldn’t want to attend the “Hashtag Nerd” event? I’m sure this show will quickly sell out (as have the previous 5 shows) and as somebody who loves going, but doesn’t have the cash money at the moment to go, I would love to win free tickets to listen, watch, and support some great local artists!
Nothing brings people together better than a good story, and I’d love to show a friend how fun this can be!

I’m a little nerdy – in a “I teach math and love science” sort of way. He’s nerdy in the comic book, movie quoting, video game playing, “my cat is my child,” kind of way. I can’t think of anything much better than hanging out in our favorite city and exploring the depths of our nerdiness – as well as some good storytelling – on one of our very few nights off together.
I haven’t seen a Back Fence production since my first year in PDX, too many years ago. I’d love to go.

This quasi-quarterly event is entertainment at it’s visceral best. …The upside of juicy gossip without the usually-resulting scandal. Bottom line: It’s a hoot… especially after downing a couple of McMeniman’s draughts!
