Fin de Cinema returns with a double feature screening! We present two animated features by French director Rene Laloux, enlisting two Portland pop acts per film to reinvent each score as a live accompaniment.
Praise for Fantastic Planet:
“Don’t expect cartoon cutesy here: The focus is closer to Dali than Disney, with a touch of Che Guevara thrown in.” –Wired
“Laloux’s film is a provocative foray into the psychology of state-sponsored terror…it is difficult to watch any scene without being aware of its symbolic and metaphorical potential.” –Senses of Cinema

i LOVE these films…and with a live score i will (re)LOVE them even more!!!! PLEASE PICK ME?!??!?!
I’m a therapist, a music therapist. A friend pointed this out to me and I have never known of it before. A) this is rad B) I like to broaden my awesome awareness outside the box C) Music!!!! D) This is rad. Thanks for supporting cool stuff PdX pipeline!
oh wow!! Please i would love to go to this so much!!!
I wanna go!
i have heard of this animated festival at Holocene before but have never had the chance to go. I want to please!
Fantastic Planet is one of my all-time favorites! Excellent (and hard to find) soundtrack too. Would be great to hear live interpretation of the soundtrack.
I turned a lot of people on to this movie back in the day.
I would love to win because it would be a great time
As an animation student, René Laloux was my hero. His other works are equally mindblowing. I’d be super grateful for the tickets to this. Cheers!
I would love to win a pair of free tickets since I have never won a pair of tickets to anything before. Also, I just saw a posting for this on a friend’s facebook page. I had never heard of it before. The picture grabbed my attention.
Wow, I just read the whole description of the movie. What an interesting concept! Wondering if I can find the book it was based on, would be a great way to practice my french!
I want to have my mind blown, like this http://tinyurl.com/8l6k3et
Pick me! I am an aspiring animator and love to be inspired.
Oh yes yes yes yes yes please- Laloux plus live soundtrack- unforgettable for sure- I would love tickets.
I’ve never won anything from this site, but tried many times!
I’ve never been to any of the Fin de Cinema events, but I love film with live performance, and I love Holocene. Please?
I first saw this on Night Flight when I was wee, and that… sadistic, laughing tree… hand… *thing* still haunts my dreams. I could use a little trauma booster, unhinged from reality.
This would also totally make up for not winning tickets to Dirty Three. That’s right – I’m shamelessly hedging my bets. Because you can’t go wrong with either show!
Pick me! I love animation (the quirkier the better) and I’ve never been to Holocene… (I’m ashamed to admit that!)
Fantastic Planet is one of those obscure and underappreciated yet brilliant films. There’s a particular mind-bending scene that will have you tripping the light fantastic. The imagery is amazing. Its definitely worth every penny and to see it enhanced with live music sounds incredible! I wasn’t even aware of Light Years so I am very intrigued to have this experience. I’d love to bring friends and turn them on to this.
This is baller. So want to go.
Please pdxpipeline gods, bless me with these tickets so i can finally enter through the gates of the all mighty holocene and indulge in these most excellent of festivities! Amen
I love the scene in ‘Fantastic Planet’ when Tiva teaches Terr to break crystals with his voice. If only we could do that on earth – sing down doors, smash barricades with songs, break bank vaults with opera notes…
i want to win and go please please please i never win anything :)
Man I hate these contests where you have to try and say something cool to win tickets.
Never been to Holocene and never seen Fantastic Planet.
Am totally up for a new experience
yes! pick me pick me!
The Super Groovy Cosmic Bus loves animated films and wants to enjoy as much art as possible.
I’ve been wanting to check this out for a while. Great bands + french animation = yes, please
film and music and more film and music….let me go!
