3 bartenders. 3 secret ingredients. 3 rounds. Portland’s Original Iron Bartender is a boisterous evening filled with prizes, giveaways, Portland notables, and creative cocktails, and it all benefits local non-profit The Giving Tree. Three talented bartenders will go head to head (to head!) during three 6-minute rounds, using a new secret ingredient every round to create a total of 9 original cocktails. The judges score them based taste, presentation, and originality, and the bartender with the highest score wins the title of Iron Bartender!
During the event there will be tons of loot for the audience. Everyone has the chance to win one of the nine cocktails created during the competition, and attendees can purchase voting cards to vote on their favorite bartender, with every voting card submitted into a drawing for a massive prize package that one lucky voter will win! Plus, there will be cheap raffle tickets, tons of raffle prizes, and amazing drink specials!
General admission can be purchased online by donating a minimum of $10 to The Giving Tree through the Willamette Week’s Give! Guide between now and Nov 30. Donors who give at the $75 level and above will receive VIP status and get seated right in front of the bar so they can interact with the judges and competitors, taste all of the secret ingredients, and receive a free voting card! Last minute folks can attend for a $15+ cash donation at the door.
Our judges are 2011 Iron Bartender Lauren Fitzgerald; Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence Edna Daze and Dixie Rupt; Mark Bitterman, co-owner of The Meadow and James Beard Award winning author of Salted; Don Bourassa, Yelp Community Director PDX and cocktail enthusiast; actor Jesse Graff, aka Spock at Trek in the Park; and one lucky audience member who will be chosen the night of the event.
Our competitors are Mindy Kucan from Hale Pele, Erica Namare from 23 Hoyt, and David Shenaut from Raven and Rose.

After the week I’ve had, I could use a trip to the Iron Bartender competition. Not to mention, awesome charity!
Sounds yummy!
If I don’t get tickets I’ll have to drink alone. lol
I will be the Chairman.
Oh dear god yes please!!
I don’t see how this could possibly be anything but an above-sub-par event. I owe my friend a few rounds from the past couple weeks and he doesn’t drink PBR…..
Great site by the way.
I would LOVE to win these tickets! I was planning on trying to go anyway to support my amazing, talented & beautiful friend Erica Namare!! I have been bartending on NW 21st as long as she has been on NW 23rd & that girl has got it! I would sooo enjoy watching her kick butt from a VIP viewpoint! ;) Thanks for the chance to win!
Sounds like good times!
These bartenders are going to put on an amazing show and I want a front row seat!
We have gone to Iron Bartender in the past and the time I got to stand up next to the bar was the best! Now that it’s for VIP only, I’m a little disappointed, so I’m hoping to get VIP status so I can enjoy it as I have before.
What a fun event for such a great cause! I’m hopeful for some cocktail requiring squid ink… fantastical? I think so.
this looks fun and tasty!
I’m the secret ingredient they need…you can’t deprive the bartenders of the secret ingredient!
Looks like a ton of fun!
I’m asian! Who’s judgier than an asian?
please save me from another night of well whiskey and PBR! this sounds like an amazing event.
pick me !!! pick me !!! pick me !!!
Sounds fun and tasty!
This is sure to be a fantastic event. Winning VIP seating? Epic.
Why yes bartender, I’ll have another…
I’d love to attend for two reasons – 1. Awesome charity and 2. my colleagues and I have a charity event planned for March 1st. I’d love to see, first hand, how you and your team pull off the Iron Bartender event. Great idea!
Cheers,
Malcolm
This sounds like a great event. I would love to win tickets. Not sure what it takes to win. Never have but I keep trying. Maybe this time!
Sounds like fun!
There are so many talented and creative bartenders in Portland; add a secret ingredient and be amazed!
Hello!
I would love to win because my good friend Lauren won
last year and I didn’t get to go. Plus I’ll bring platters of my
delicious vegan chocolate truffles for everyone!! – XO Melissa
someone get this guy a DRINK!! ha ha
I like booze, competitions, judges and free things.
I want to go because I love alcohol and the people who deliver it to my mouth (aka bartenders).
I’ve been to Iron Chef, so I think I need to be rounded out and attend Iron Bartender as well! Plus, even if we win these tickets, we will definitely be spending plenty of money there as well, and give to the cause!
OMG, would love this! My bday is 12/10 btw :)
whoa, awesome opportunity! I’ve knocked a few back in my day so front row seats to a cocktail judging competition sounds just peachy! Let’s just say if I won the tickets there would be some “Iron” in my pants if you catch my drift… because I’d wear my jeans with the iron zipper (what were you thinking?)
Dear PDXPipeline,
Competition may bring out the worst in some, but I’m sure that won’t be the case here. My tastebuds are watering and my liver is getting prepared in anticipation of this event. I love the Radio Room, and of course cocktails, and the overlap of the venn diagram that is the Iron Bartender competition sounds amazing.
Please pick me!
-Frank
Sounds like a great time…and walking distance from my house, sign me up for some free tickets!
hello! My awesome boyfriend is new to our great city and caught wind of this event. The tickets are too expensive for us but I’d love to take him to this and show him a little piece of what this amazing city of ours has to offer! Please help me out here :)
Without participating in this event, how will I know what to serve at my holiday parties? And f I win VIP passes, I can let my friends drink for free- no BYOB this year!
This sounds awesome!
Sounds fun
Because vegan iron chef wasn’t weird enough..
never been to a bar tending competition before. sounds fun.
I would do a little… no a big jig if I won these tickets! What fun!!! I need to have some fun!!!
I’m trying to win tickets to go OUT this weekend!
I love cocktails & I will drink them like an iron lush!
Woo hoo!
Wow this looks like so much fun! I would love to win tickets to this, and love the mad men style poster.
Wow, I’d absolutely love to win this. thanks!
Sounds drinkalicious…fun.

We have chosen our winner! Congratulations Malcolm! Remember that until midnight tonight you can donate to The Giving Tree through the Willamette Week Give! Guide and it will cost only $10 for entry, and tomorrow it will be $15 at the door.
Right up my alley. Thanks for the opportunity.
I’d love to feel like a classy lady even just for one night ;)
