Drums roll, flags wave, a stilt walker hula hoops while marching down Alberta Street. It’s part marching band, part circus and a whole lot of fun! Members of Portland’s own MarchFourth Marching Band invite youth ages 12-18 to join them for a new and exciting year-long after school arts program. Join them on December 6th as they raise funds for their scholarship program at their annual FunRaiser party with Gypsy cabaret band, Vagabond Opera, The Joy Now Marching Band and DJ Globalruckus. Also featuring a live auction, raffle, free appetizers, carnival games and more!
The Joy Now Arts Project is dedicated to empowering, exciting and engaging youth through music and performance arts-centered programs that value diversity, positive collaboration, self-awareness and social change. “Frankly, it’s a place to rock out!” says Co-director, Robin Jackson.
Robin Jackson and fellow director, Ariel Brantley-Dalglish were among a few MarchFourth members to strike out in pursuit of creating a youth program. “We wanted to create something wild and original that would focus on cultivating creativity and artistic passion as much as it would help foster a greater sense of self-worth and confidence in the youth participating.” says Ms. Brantley-Dalglish.
