Backed by a stellar band featuring some of Portland’s best, this powerhouse vocalist delivers a blistering mix of contemporary & old school blues. Karen Lovely’s standout performances have garnered awards, critical acclaim and standing ovations at festivals and venues throughout the US, Canada and Europe.
Karen Lovely shot onto the blues scene from the Pacific Northwest like Stack O’ Lee’s .44 capturing 2nd Place Band Prize at the 2010 International Blues Challenge followed by 2011 BMA Nominations for BEST CONTEMPORARY BLUES FEMALE ARTIST, BEST CONTEMPORARY BLUES ALBUM and BEST SONG for her sophomore release “Still The Rain.” She began singing the blues professionally in September 2007. Her records “Lucky Girl” and “Still the Rain” have topped the blues and roots charts and gone to #1 on XM Radio’s B.B. King’s Bluesville’s “Pick to Click” list.

Oh my! this would make for an amazing Friday evening! Jimmy Maks is one of my favorite places in PDX and being a college student, I don’t really get the opportunity to go to events there! I would love more than anything to win a pair of tickets for this event! Karen Lovely is incredible…what a treat this is!!
Recently moved to Pdx and have heard fabulous rumors about Jimmy Mak’s portland jazz utopia. Would love the chance to check it out and hear superhero Karen Lovely’s blues.
My wife’s birthday is next week it is our first birthday together as a married couple and I am almost certain every sultry, steamy song that was written in the 20′s was written in expectation of her arrival. She herself is a singer and loves this style. I basically want these tickets to make me look like the coolest guy in town when the most beautiful woman in the world is just beaming because I got to spoil her a bit.
As I stated before we are newlyweds and I work for a non-profit so in short we got them, low down, mac and cheese on thanksgiving kinda blues.

I moved to PDX from southern Oregon and I miss Karen Lovely! She’s great! And I’ve been wanting to go to Jimmy Maks forever. Each time I make plans work has got in the way. Gee, and my 50tg birthday was the 4th and I still need to celebrate.

Karen recently stired and shook us up at Duffs and Starkys while she did a few numbers with the Candye Kane band here in Portland, See has a voice that will blow you away, Candye said no one can follow Karen because she sets the bar so high, just a amazing blues singer, a must see show and benefit reguardless of the price, and it is a fund raiser for United by Music, a absolutely over the top great event! Thanks Jimmy Macs for being there.

Karen has the rare gift of transmitting to the listener the raw feelings within her songs. Besides having a powerful voice, she is always, ALWAYS backed up by the best musicians she can find. Why? Because they know talent when they see it and hear it!
I have the pleasure occasionally to hear her, like when she came down to Duff’s for Candye Kane’s show last month. It was there that I learned she had moved to Portland from southern Oregon. This town is SO full of talent! But by moving here, she has truely raised the bar!
Giving of herself, in the way she sings, the songs she writes, and her involvement with United By Music makes her a true treasure for Portland. I sure hope I can get to see her at Jimmy Mak’s! Unemployment and a house note makes it difficult for me to do so on my own.

I have the blues and need some consolation! This week my boyfriend got in a car accident (thank god he is ok) and his car is totaled. He is a SAAB owner and he loved that car so much. They don’t make his car anymore and we have just had other frustrating annoyances this week. My boyfriend is a musician and needs his car to carry around his equipment…I’d love to take him to a show to see some music for once and cheer both of us up.
