Initially formed as an acoustic string band, seven years of constant touring has transformed Hot Buttered Rum into a plugged-in, percussive powerhouse that wows critics and fans alike. Their left-coast rock reveals an access to jazz, country, and world music that few groups can match. While the band’s music belies simple categorization, its songwriting and stage chemistry delights listeners at every turn.
Hot Buttered Rum’s story is one of evolution. The “high altitude bluegrass” era captured on their first studio album, In These Parts, found the band enjoying success at such diverse stages as the Newport Folk Festival, Bonnaroo, Grey Fox, High Sierra, Wakarusa, and the Telluride Bluegrass Festival. Along the way, the group shared the stage with some of today’s most accomplished artists, including Phil Lesh, Bela Fleck, Ben Harper, and Nickel Creek’s Chris Thile. In 2006, acoustic pioneer Mike Marshall produced Hot Buttered Rum’s second studio album, Well-Oiled Machine, and captured the sound of a hard-touring band charting its course along the highways and byways of American music.

yes please, i would like to win tickets.
let me win and i will release my girlfriend from the basement
Well I definitely would like to go this show and free tickets would be awesome!
I could fabricate an incredible tale as to why you should give me tickets. For example I could say that I can’t afford the tickets because no one will hire someone that has had the lower half of their body eaten during a shark feeding frenzy. That wouldn’t really be a lie but it does imply that I am that person which I am not. So I won’t say that, instead you should just give me the tickets because like many people here I love kittens. Legit…
I LOVE attending live music events at the Crystal! Hot Buttered Rum is my favorite flavor! ;)
Saw these guys in vail.. Awesome
I’d like to win because after 19 straight days of hosting family/friends/strangers, the lady and I need a friggin musical break!
First of all I love Hot Buttered Rum and have previously seen them at the Crystal Ballroom and would love to hear them play with the new sound system! I promise to dance!
Why? Because it’s Hot Buttered Rum, and it’s been too long since I’ve been to the Crystal.
oh man I LOVE bluegrass music! One of my favorite pasttimes is eating mexican, drinking pbr, and dancing to live bluegrass in my hometown of Columbia, SC. Help me make new bluegrass memories in Portland!!!
Hot. Buttered. Rum. While I doubt hot buttered rums will be offered by the bars at the show, seeing the band would be a more than acceptable alternative.
Because I’ll be hollarin, yip yapping, yodelin up a lightnin storm to beat the band, gad nabbit from the SW hillside as I come, singing Oh the people would come from far away
They’d dance all night till the break of day
When the caller hollered “do-se-do”
You knew Uncle Pen was ready to go
Late in the evening about sundown
High on the hill and above the town
Uncle Pen played the fiddle lord how it would ring
You could hear it talk, you could hear it sing
In my last year of grad school… thousands upon thousands of dollars in debt but will be doing what I love, and helping out the world at the same time :) A free show with amazing artists sure would be a cheap/easy/grand way to end the weekend. I’ll dance my socks off, promise!
I love HBRSB and try to see them every time they come to town! Would love a chance to see them for free!
Happy Birthday Crystal Ballroom! McMenamins does an outstanding job with everything they do and I feel engulfed in pleasure whenever I’m in a McMenamins establishment. So much careful thought, art and creativity! Add Hot Buttered Rum and a birthday cake and you’ve got the best birthday party ever!
I’d like to attend because my boyfriend’s taste in music is pop, pop and more pop. With a side of System of A Down thrown in. We have never been to a show together! I always write nice, long responses and never get picked. Please let this time be different!
Yes!! How fun would this be. I’ve never been to a show, and this would be a great first one to attend!
My mom & I are spending the night in Portland for her birthday Sunday night & she loves acoustic music, we would love to win these tickets!
Would love to attend this because Sasparilla is on my “want to see list” and has been for a little while. And The Crystal Ballroom is one of my all time favorite venues. :)
Go get the Butter!
Always enjoy HBR! Have not seen the melodic Ashleigh Flynn in ages. Came across her first CD in my case recently. Loving it!
I d love to see some bluegrass!! Too poor to buy tickets though
would love to see hot buttered rum and sass! Only heard great things, need to see for myself!
I’ll celebrate this!!
Crystal Ballroom became a special place for me where I can go back to my teenage years, where I can dance fearlessly, where I feel one of those nights that I truly had fun.. I would love to celebrate Crystal Ballroom Birthday like one of my good friend..
