Widely regarded as one of the most brilliant songwriters of her generation, Suzanne Vega emerged as a leading figure of the folk-music revival of the early 1980s when, accompanying herself on acoustic guitar, she sang contemporary folk songs of her own creation in Greenwich Village clubs. Since the release of her self-titled, critically acclaimed 1985 debut album, she has given sold-out concerts in many of the world’s best-known halls. In performances devoid of outward drama that nevertheless convey deep emotion, Vega sings in a distinctive, clear vibrato-less voice that has been described as “a cool, dry sandpaper- brushed near-whisper” and as “plaintive but disarmingly powerful.”
Bearing the stamp of a masterful storyteller, Suzanne has tended to focus on city life, ordinary people and real world subjects in her music. Notably succinct and understated, often cerebral but also streetwise, her lyrics invite multiple interpretations. In short, Suzanne Vega’s work is immediately recognizable, as utterly distinct and thoughtful, and as creative and musical now, as it was when her voice was first heard on the radio over 20 years ago.
With seven studio albums, a Grammy Award, and three additional nominations to her credit, Suzanne’s latest recording, Beauty & Crime is a love letter to her hometown of New York City and was hailed as “original, gritty and gorgeous as ever” by Newsweek and “lovely and literate” by People Magazine.
Suzanne Vega is so much more than her music. She hosted a public radio series about 20th Century American Composers called American Mavericks, which won a Peabody Award for Excellence in Broadcasting; she wrote The Passionate Eye, a book of poems and essays; and she currently blogs for the New York Times. An innovative educator and founding member of the Musician’s Cooperative songwriter workshops in Greenwich Village, her unique composition, writing and performance techniques have influenced a generation of musicians.

Would love to bring my 13-year old to the concert too!

I LOVE Suzanne Vega, and would love to see her play! Plus, I’m new to Portland and am excited to check out as many activities and venues. Being poor makes that tough, but winning things could make it easier ;)

Love Suzanne Vega – she was part of my high school internal soundtrack! Saw her once years ago – she read passages from her journal that eventually became her songs. Even if y’all don’t win the tickets – I strongly suggest you check her out!

Longtime fan never had opportunity to see her…would be amazing at the Alladin!
If I can go, I will volunteer a day at the animal shelter!
i’d love to see suzanne vega live… have enjoyed her music for years and years!
would love to take my 13 year old to this. she is a huge fan!
I saw Suzanne Vega at a Sarah McLachlan concert back in the 90′s, and when she did “The Queen and the Soldier,” with only an acoustic guitar to accompany her, the ENTIRE OUTDOOR THEATER WENT SILENT in awe. I would love to experience that magic again. She is an honest troubadour.
Need to see Suzanne….please!
she’s a singer and a poet, i would kill to see this show!
I don’t usually go out on Wednesday nights, but to see and listen to Suzanne Vega would get me out of the house, and I would ask all of my friends to get tickets too so they could join me and my girlfriend for a wonderful night at the Aladdin Theater.
Susanne Vega is part if my lifeblood. I have found that my discretionary spending money is no longer viable with the responsibilities of growing up and can’t afford to go. These free tickets would be the perfect recharge here in the deepest vagaries of winter. Thank you.
One thing that is always fun is recognizing the name of an artist, void of actual knowledge of their playlist, yet knowing that you’ve heard their music.
Then winning tickets to their show and spending the evening saying, “I love that song… too!”
Pick me… pick me:)
A night at the Aladdin with Suzanne Vega! Wow, that would be a blast! We’d love to see this show!
She was brave to tackle child abuse through her songwriting. And I’m a former New Yorker still in love with my city of birth!
It would blow my mind to win these tickets! She’s such a prolific poet and gorgeous person too!! Can’t believe I have the chance, thanks.
I’d love to see Suzanne Vega, I’d bring my sister, she loves Suzanne Vega, too! What a beautiful experience, if we won! Thanks!!!
Would be an awesome show! Love to go!
Amazing! She sets the bar high and I would love to see her magic in person.
I would SO appreciate these passes. Thanks for considering.
I have a really lovely girl that I want to take to this! Help me show her a great time?
I would love to experience her music in person!
Old enough to remember, and young enough to get out and get down with a legend for the 80′s… I’d love to enjoy an evening with Suzanne!
this would be an awesome first date option!
Vega got me through my college years. Her songwriting is superb and the staying power of her music and artistry is something I still discuss with friends. So glad to see she is touring right now.
I would love to see Suzanne Vega! It would make my month.
I would love to see the show, and bring along a special guy that I’m hoping to impress with my awesome music taste ;)
To be perfectly honest my husband and I need a date night really bad and we don’t have any money in the budget for tickets. Please make my month! PDX PIPELINE ROCKS! :)
