A lot of adjectives have been deployed in describing this industrial dance hall that jives from the corner of SE Grand and Ash, the most notable of which is its raw energy. While generally home to bands a bit outside of the traditional jazz arena, we are collaborating with the club to test the crossover capability of this pivotal era in music. Bring a dance partner and join us for an adventure in sound.

Inspirational Beets include a versatile bassist who has performed with both established and emerging bands throughout the city of Portland, a dynamic percussionist whose diverse experience across multiple genres spans over two decades as a rhythmic engineer, a longstanding ambassador of the local gypsy jazz scene, a guitar guru with an extensive background in country-western swing, and a veteran of the 76th United States Army Band based out of Wiesbaden, Germany.

The band performs songs that echoed through the streets and shadows of America in the 1920s and 30s, during one of the most pivotal moments in the nation’s history: Prohibition and The Great Depression. Influenced by musicians the likes of Louis Armstrong, King Oliver, Bessie Smith, and Fats Waller, Inspirational Beets hope to bring a welcomed sound for all generations to enjoy within the vibrant Pacific Northwest scene. Bring it flappers.
