The Black Water Snake calls to me . . . to socialize and meet NEW friends! To be proud of the journey it’s taken to get here and now, and also very thoughtful and considerate of the path traveled and those along it. This year is meant for steady progress and attention to detail; intention. I want to revel in the celebration of such a new year! Refreshed and ready for the good fortune that slithers our way! Thank you for this opportunity Refuge.

  9. Margaret Wendel February 4, 2013 at 20:04 #

Because I’ve lived Portland a been a part of making reative things happen, and enjoying what others make happen, for over 20 years, and am moving to Hawaii in March. I’d love nothing more than to dance with such lovely energy one last time (and all my funds are currently devoted to moving, so hope I win!)

  15. Ian Ether February 5, 2013 at 02:37 #

My last Chinese New Year was spent in a monastery in Thailand across a valley from a Chinese temple. I watched as they lit off fireworks for days, sending the prayers of visitors to the sky. I want to ring in this New Year an send out my prayers in a much different and fancier way with y’all at this event! I embrace this year of the Snake, a year of Death and Transformation, lets bring it in right!

  16. Veronica Ramirez February 5, 2013 at 11:02 #

I want to go. I have never been and I need to balance my chi. I think with 2013 not starting so well that this will bring on new hope for the new year and knowledge, not to mention strength with all I will learn.

  17. Arjuna Busek February 5, 2013 at 11:19 #

I would like to attend Refuge’s Chinese new year event because the universe has played its part in keeping me from heyoka one too many times. He is realistically on the top of my list of artists to see live, and if I am to have the privilege to, words would not be able to express my gratitude. Dancing to heyoka would be the only expression powerful enough to convey the degree of appreciation I would feel. Hare Krishna

  18. Jessica February 5, 2013 at 11:32 #

“Dance, when you’re broken open. Dance, if you’ve torn the bandage off. Dance in the middle of the fighting. Dance in your blood. Dance when you’re perfectly free.”
    ― Rumi
I would love to attend this lovely event.

Chinese & New Year @ the same time……..Sweet

  23. JoAnna February 5, 2013 at 20:50 #

I would like to win tickets to Threshold for MANY reasons but here is a short list.
    1. It is my birthday, and this is what I am doing to celebrate my birthday driving up from Eugene for this show, so how awesome would it be to win free tickets to it for my birthday!?
    2. I LOVE HEYOKA (Andreilian). He is my favorite electronic artist and I am so excited to see him! I drug my boyfriend around to catch every single one of his sets at Burning Man, which lemme tell you, was about 20 times, and I still am so excited to see him for my birthday.
    3. I would love to bring in this new year with groovy tunes and wonderful friends. I am already bringing a crew of people up from Eugene, and it would be super awesome to maybe bring one more to celebrate with me for free who cannot afford to make it on their own!!
    4. What an awesome event.
    5. Did I mention it’s my birthday?

  24. Nate February 5, 2013 at 20:55 #

This is one of my favorite events in Portland every year. This is an awesome line up and sounds like it will be a great time. I’m coming up from Eugene with a bunch of people, which is not exactly a cheap trip and a free ticket would be much appreciated and much easier on the pocket book. It’s also my girlfriends birthday and would love to gift her a ticket!

  25. kaya February 5, 2013 at 21:01 #

    I wana go!

  26. Allisone February 5, 2013 at 21:43 #

First, I love music, and totally adore the music of Andreilien and would be honored to see him perform live. Being the start of a new year in the Chinese calendar, and a most auspicious time on the plant, what better thing to do than move sound, energy and love through ones body with others! The year of the black water snake is upon us! I’d love to celebrate at Threshold

  27. Yannwen Liang February 5, 2013 at 22:23 #

This is my first year in Oregon from Los Angeles and I’m coming to Portland to see if New Year will be better up there than down here in Southern Oregon. Hopefully it doesn’t disappoint! I’ll be coming with my partner and I’m really looking forward to finding something fun and special.

  28. SamanthaWhaa February 6, 2013 at 10:53 #

Finally! The year of the snake is upon us once again! I am the year of the snake and also will be working at a Chinese cooking class right before this… I fear I wont be able to afford this event otherwise and I would so so so love to see Heyoka as well as DJ Shawna. Further, I am quite seriously considering stepping up to the DJ booth and need a little womanly-dj inspiration in my life. please please pleaseeeeee <3

  29. Surka Noelle February 6, 2013 at 13:58 #

    Blessings~
I am new to the Portland area and have been told this is the event of the year to attend. I am a full time performance artist, movement instructor and shoppe owner. It would be a great gift to take myself out for the sheer joy and inspiration of watching my new friends in Bridgetown Revue, JPeace Love Circus, Shpongled Hoops and the many other amazing performers and art happening that evening. I can offer an open heart and dancing feet all night long. Thank you for the opportunity!
    Namaste,
    ~Surka

  31. Shannon Llewellyn February 6, 2013 at 14:21 #

I have never been to ‘Threshold: Black Water Snake Chinese New Year Celebration.’
This past year has totally sucked. I got laid off from my excellent job and am still unemployed. My boyfriend and I split up and my heart is still recovering.
That being said, I was born in the Year of the Snake and I truly would love to celebrate a new year and a new (and hopefully, prosperous) beginning with some free tickets. I really believe this is going to be “THE” year for me and to win tickets to this amazing event would just be the BEST beginning!

Last year’s Chinese New Year at Refuge was the best party I’ve attended in Portland. I’d love to take my friend from Iowa this year. I mean…Iowa; he’s easily impressed. We’d love to attend. :)

  43. Wednesdey February 7, 2013 at 16:59 #

I really need to get my dance on! Not having to pay for my ticket would be super awesome. Money sure is tight. I know it’s a great party but, $25 is a lot of money for someone like me. :)

I made it to the last two Threshold parties and they were my favorite events at the Refuge. This year I’m low on funds because the year of the Dragon was rough. I really wanna come dance the Year of the Snake in. It’d be amazing to win these tickets and start the new year right.

    thanks!

  53. Kelly February 8, 2013 at 13:00 #

Threshold is the beginning and the end. The past, whether beautiful or ugly, is left behind and we embark, eyes open. This year, we look into the eyes of the snake and begin the dance.

The crew involved in Threshold is amazingly dedicated, talented and focused on bringing Portland the best they have to offer. They bring it all to the table and the most we can do is show up and celebrate being alive together.

  54. Ariana akin February 8, 2013 at 15:49 #

Howdy would you mind letting me know which hosting company you’re using? I’ve loaded your blog in 3
completely different browsers and I must say this
blog loads a lot quicker then most. Can you recommend a
good hosting provider at a reasonable price? Thank you, I appreciate it!
