The 12th Annual Northwest String Summit returns to Horning’s Hideout (North Plains, OR) with the finest acoustic pickers and standout electric bands from July 18 – 21, 2013. Located just 20 miles outside of Portland, OR, Horning’s Hideout stands as one of the most scenic festival sites in the country. A family-friendly and locally-sourced festival, Northwest String Summit caps its capacity at 4,500 attendees to ensure an intimate experience for all festival-goers at an incredible ticket price. For more detailed information, please visit: www.stringsummit.com.

The 12th Annual Northwest String Summit is hosted by Colorado-based Yonder Mountain String Band; arguably the top touring neo-bluegrass band in the world. Yonder will perform three nights of music, and additional national acts at this year’s festival include Leftover Salmon, Keller and The Keels, David Grisman Bluegrass Experience, Greensky Bluegrass, Black Prairie (featuring members of The Decemberists), Danny Barnes, Darol Anger, Deadly Gentlemen, Head for the Hills, Larry & Jenny: The Keels, Poor Man’s Whiskey performing Dark Side of the Moonshine with guest artist Allie Kral of Cornmeal, Milkdrive, Polecat, Brothers Comatose, Iron Horse – Pickin’ On Modest Mouse, and The Congress! Pimps of Joytime will also perform a late-night main stage set on Saturday, July 20, 2013.

Northwest String Summit partners with singular Portland organizations, food vendors and emerging Pacific Northwest-based musicians as a way to support the various thriving local communities. Celebrated Eugene, OR favorite Ninkasi Brewing Company will offer exceptional craft beers onsite for the third year-in-a-row, including an exclusive small-batch NW String Summit Festival Specialty Brew called Clusterpluck Session Ale. Made with Northwest Pale Ale and Honey malts, Clusterpluck is a light and refreshing golden ale — the perfect accompaniment to a summertime jam session. Ninkasi will host the Northwest Local “Ninkasi Brewing” Stage @ Cascadia Acoustic Coffeehouse, which will feature some of the region’s finest bands such as Scott Law & Chris Funk – The Roots of Johnny Cash, Fruition, Horse Feathers, Shook Twins, Giraffe Dodgers with Allie Kral of Cornmeal, Sugarcane, and Big E’s Magik Mornin’ Show, and last year’s band competition winner Betty and the Boy.

2013 Northwest String SummitString Summit event promoter Skye McDonald comments about the forthcoming festival, “This year we are going into our 12th String Summit and we are delighted to refocus our programming on strings and acoustic music, the foundation of the festival. While there is plenty of pickin’ and singin’ at this year’s Strummit, when the clock strikes midnight, there are surprises in store that will ensure a huge rockin’ dance party that is sure to get the trees shaking and the peacocks howlin’ along with the crowd!”

The following artisan food trucks will provide delicious food options for festival-goers: Nosh on 7th, Bunk Sandwiches, Toast, Thai Volcano Express, Solarshots, and others TBA. Northwest Local “Ninkasi Brewing” Stage @ Cascadia Acoustic Coffeehouse will serve a variety of non-alcoholic beverages, baked goods, and snacks from local favorites such as Trailhead Coffee and Voodoo Doughnuts.

Now in its 10th year, the Band Competition at Northwest String Summit reigns in some of the hottest pickers from all across the country. The competition is in line with other top festival competitions, such as Telluride Bluegrass Festival and Rockygrass, and will occur on Friday, July 19, 2013. Four bands/musicians will be chosen by a panel of judges including members of Yonder Mountain String Band and festival staffers to compete for the winning crown (each band will perform for 10 – 15 minutes). The winner is awarded an opening slot on Sunday, July 21, 2013, and a paid slot at the following year’s festival. The Band Competition is a single mic only set-up, and only acoustic instruments are allowed (no DIs, no drums).

Winning tickets would give me an excuse to come to lovely Portland once again, to enjoy the city, mountains, ocean, AND visit my youngest son, who moved to Portland 5+ years ago and it seems, will never leave. Since he moved there, I’ve visited several times and find more things to love with each visit.

  14. tiffany April 30, 2013 at 11:47 #

I have never been to Horning’s Hideout and have heard so many great things! And to get to go to Northwest String Summit, that would be wonderful! I love so many of the bands playing at what I hear is an amazing festival. It would be a great summer treat!

  16. Audrey Furst April 30, 2013 at 11:47 #

I would like to win the tickets because in the last year been through 2 major accidents on March 9, 2012, One resulting in a hip surgery which still has me out of work a year later (its work related), and the other resulting in dislocated neck, and lower back issues (was rear ended in a car accident on my way home from the ER that night). On top of that, I recently have gone through a major breakup, only yo find out 2 days later that my landlord is selling our home and I have to move by June 15th.
I totally feel that I need a break from all the stress and what better way to do so than by being surrounded by positive people while enjoying amazing music.

  17. Lisa Richardson April 30, 2013 at 11:47 #

I’d love to win tickets for my daughter. She’s a single mom who works really hard, and deserves a break. I don’t have a lot of money, but I know she would love this!

  18. Natalie April 30, 2013 at 11:47 #

    One word “Broke”

  19. Lisa April 30, 2013 at 11:48 #

I’m getting married in August and cannot afford to do anything this summer. A few days at Hornings would be good for me to blow off some steam.

I would love to win these tickets and go for my very first time with my daughter! Always wanted to go but jut couldn’t make with my schedule but this year I am totally free on that weekend.

  21. Christy Z April 30, 2013 at 11:48 #

Picking & peacocks! I have wanted to make it to this festival with friends since moving to Oregon. I am trying to make this the ultimate summer. Winning tix would make this the ultimate summer of my dreams.

  22. Dave April 30, 2013 at 11:48 #

Oh lordy, how I’d love to be there! The best musicians at the best venue in the Northwest would be a dream come true. This is way out of my budget, so I’m calling on PDX Pipeline to show me some love!

  23. Sarah Degan-Smith April 30, 2013 at 11:49 #

For the last 7 years, I have been returning to Oregon to try to catch NWSS. I actually made it only once. It was an awesome bonding experience with my mom. I found out that the preacher who married my parents ordered his preacher’s license from the back of high times. I’m a child of “The Church of the Holy Smoke!” This year, I am already here, but financial constraints are preventing my ticket purchase. I would be the most grateful recipient, I swear! Help!

  24. Claire April 30, 2013 at 11:49 #

I’d love to have a weekend away with good food, good music and good beer! Plus since I just moved here I’ve never been!

String Summit is the highlight of my year. I plan for it months in advance, and offer my heart and soul when there. Almost nothing makes me happier than the magical, peaceful, whimsical delight of this festival. And in the famous words of YMSB: “Though my mouth may be shut, the voice in my head sings a million tunes!” Going to String Summit is like going home.

I’ve lived in Oregon twice for 3 years each time and miss it more than I can express. Music, beer and Oregon are just the perfect fit for me. I’d love to come visit, breathe the fresh air and enjoy the overall surroundings and people of Oregon. It’s been almost 3 years and that’s almost 3 years too long. Give me the tickets and I’ll ensure I’m on the flight from Indiana :)

For a true music lover I have never managed to make it to a music festival. Im my sweet 32 years on this little planet I have either been lacking in funds or time to make it happen. I would be overwhelmed with the opportunity to make The String Summit my first and for most experience of what I know will be a amazing festival.
    Cheers

  73. David Braun April 30, 2013 at 12:27 #

I’ve been saying for three years that I’m going to NWSS and haven’t actually made it up there, but THIS year I’m gonna win tickets! Why me? Well, I’ve been unemployed and looking for work every day for seven months. I’m overqualified for anything I’m not underqualified for, so the assistance money ran out and now I’m back in school full time. I lost my bike computer riding five blocks the other day. My OMMP card is about to expire. My lower back feels like it’s being trampled by a stegasaurus. I could really use a break in my favor right about now… String Summit looks inviting.

  74. Jessica April 30, 2013 at 12:27 #

I know some very deserving folks. My dear friend who is a single Dad with his two beautiful little boys(4 and 5 yrs.).They would have the time of their life!!! I can’t think of anything cooler for them to do, well maybe a few but this is something a fun loving Dad would like to share with his boys. If I won those tickets for them they would be floored! I would pay to see those little boy’s faces when they found out they won tickets to go! Probably make their summer. Good luck to the winners thats a pretty awesome score :)

Man oh man, if I got tickets to this not ONLY would it give me a chance to make up for me being too broke to bring my lady to go see shows the past couple months, but it would ALSO give me a perfect excuse to not attend my stupid friend’s stupid wedding in New Jersey on the 21st. Hell, maybe I could even convince him to skip it and come see Yonder with me instead!

  81. Anita April 30, 2013 at 12:39 #

  91. Stephen April 30, 2013 at 12:54 #

Please choose me to win this contest. I can’t afford it. I had a motorcylce injury and possibly suffered some brain damage many years ago. Nobody is really sure. But now my dark side, my shadow, my lower companion is now in the back room blowing up balloons for kids’ parties. I have come to understand that fear is the dark room where the Devil develops his negatives.
It’s a very strange silence that I’m living in right now. It’s a silence that has a lot of activity and noise in it from a zone that I don’t live in on this earth. I have been told that I have a mind that’s open to everything, and gets attached to nothing. I’ve been told by doctors and surgeons that I have the energy of ten men who have normal jobs. Imagine the peace symbol. The peace symbol has three pieces in it. One piece is emotion, that’s your body. Another piece has spirit in it, that’s your fuel. Another piece has intellect in it and that’s your steering wheel. You can never overdo the fuel that goes into the body, which is the emotions and the steering wheel to drive it. Nothing changes like changes, because nothing changes but the changes.
Amen is not the end of a prayer, it just gets us ready to go to the next level.

  93. Peter April 30, 2013 at 12:56 #

This would be my two year olds first music festival. We would love to win tickets to expose him to this amazing music experience at an early age!

  94. Violette April 30, 2013 at 12:57 #

I love music, especially acoustic music from the Northwest, and I spend all of my time out at shows and supporting artists and musician friends. That and my Mom lives in Portland and I don’t visit her nearly enough. So my mom wants me to win this, and yours probably does too.

  95. Jessica S. April 30, 2013 at 13:01 #

Dying to go. The hubby’s never been to a festival and I think our first summer in Oregon would be made perfect if we won tickets to this. <3

  96. Racheal April 30, 2013 at 13:03 #

OMG! This is the best festival to see hippies and peacocks! At the same time! Oh, yeah, and Yonder Mountain String Band is totally awesome. And so is Horning’s Hideout. And I like camping.

  97. Amber April 30, 2013 at 13:05 #

I have never been to a music festival my entire life I’ve lived in Oregon so I think this would be a great experience for me

  98. Kayla April 30, 2013 at 13:08 #

I have heard about this festival! Lived in OR for 20+ years of my life, it would be great to go to this!

  99. Petra Ogan April 30, 2013 at 13:09 #

This reminds me of an awesome fest called Skunkfest way back in the day! It looks so rad, perfect for my family! I am born and raised in Portland, OR, but don’t live currently. I miss Oregon soo much and was planning on driving up there IN JULY! It couldn’t be more perfect! I want to show my husband and son what an awesome place Oregon is, but am poor.. so it really would be a dream come true!

  100. April April 30, 2013 at 13:10 #

I used to live in Florida and attended 4-5 bluegrass festivals a year at Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park. I have missed the atmosphere and fun nature of the events. I have wanted to go to the String Summit since I found out about it! It would be awesome to win!! If not, I’ll definitely be there next year :)

  101. Kyle April 30, 2013 at 13:13 #

I would love to get tickets to this festival! I love Black Prairie!

  106. Sarah dye April 30, 2013 at 13:33 #

We don’t live in the states (stationed overseas) so any reason to go back to ‘Mericuh, especially a free reason, would be dope.

  111. Kelly Holmes April 30, 2013 at 14:11 #

My husband and I just moved here from Seattle, and moving totally deleted our bank account. We are still catching up, and won’t be able to buy live music tickets for a while. This would be an amazing way to get started as a part of the local music scene! Thanks for having a giveaway!!

  112. Allie April 30, 2013 at 14:13 #

This would be the perfect gift to give to my boyfriend for our five year anniversary!

I have never gone and would love to!

  116. Jackie H. April 30, 2013 at 14:43 #

I would like to attend the festival because I am relatively new to PDX. We haven’t been able to attend awesome events like this, and I think it is kind of necessary to living here. In the middle of summer? Yes, please!

  117. Jenny Tackett April 30, 2013 at 14:48 #

My boyfriend is a music buff who would love this festival! He has been laid off 4 times in the last 2 years and we could really use some fun, stress free music time!

  118. Briana Wallace April 30, 2013 at 14:52 #

I will be graduating from college this summer. I am the first in my family to do so and I am very proud of this accomplishment. It has been a struggle to get to where I am and would love a chance to celebrate life to it’s fullest. This sounds like an amazing experience and I would love the opportunity to attend!

  119. Cody April 30, 2013 at 14:55 #

I want to go because I’ve had a really hard past few months for me, with a bitter divorce between my parents and all. I’d really love to have this to look forward to, especially because I LOVE all the bands playing.

  120. Mathew April 30, 2013 at 15:12 #

This event looks amazing. I would literally die if I didn’t go

  121. AG April 30, 2013 at 15:12 #

    I <3 live music! ^^

  123. KiMinja April 30, 2013 at 15:38 #

I want to surprise my sweetly gruffian man with going to this amazing show!: Portland is my home and I want to show him how beautiful it is in the summer. We live in Arizona now and NEED GREEN! He is a HUGE bluegrass fan and I am a violinist looking to start playing dirty, truthful, lovely bluegrass. Then he and I will romp the mud into good vibes and happy feet! I would roadtrip twitterpated the whole way there for tickets! And when we’re there I can guarantee some good ‘ole infectious stompin’!

  124. Jeremiah Satori April 30, 2013 at 15:51 #

    They’re expecting me.

Oh! Plus today is my birthday!

  125. Brittany Hale April 30, 2013 at 16:04 #

I’d love to go! It looks beautiful and serene. Can’t get much better than that.

  126. charley April 30, 2013 at 16:10 #

I love music, festivals and meeting new people!!

  127. Stephen April 30, 2013 at 16:15 #

This would be an amazing festival to attend. My girlfriend and I love going to concerts but we have yet to go to a festival. I’m from Washington but have been stuck out here in Utah and haven’t been back in over a year now. Going to this festival would cross off an item on the bucket list while getting rid of some home sickness!

  128. Kristen April 30, 2013 at 17:14 #

I’m an Oregon native but I’ve lived in Colorado for the past 16 years. We have some great festivals here but nothing compares to my home state! I’d love to go back to Oregon for some good old fashioned festival fun and a chance to bring a family member or 2 along!!

  129. Kierah April 30, 2013 at 17:17 #

I want some tickets cause it would be freekin awesome to experience the beauty , music , and beer of this fabulous event!!! I’d be very much obliged if i was picked!!!

  130. Lorea April 30, 2013 at 17:17 #

It’s by birthday on Saturday…. and I’m a Mommy who hasn’t been on a date or to an event in over two years!

  131. McKinzie Myszka-Foth April 30, 2013 at 17:21 #

I once played disc golf at horning’s hideout and decided to camp. I was unprepared for it. Just when it started looking like trouble, I heard sweet sweet music. Turned out to be a true Hootenanny I was engulfed in and it was the best time I have ever had. I want to try to beat my PR and the String Summit seems like just the experience to do so.

  132. sean April 30, 2013 at 17:37 #

My buddies and I used to hit up music festivals such as Jazzfest in NoLa and Bumbershoot in Seattle but alas they are mostly married with kids now. I miss the good ‘ol days and perhaps I could drag one of them away to this if a free price tag was attached to it.

  133. Luisa Waites April 30, 2013 at 18:36 #

I live in Southern Oregon and we don’t have anything that would come close to this event. I would love to come up to Portland and attend.

  134. laura April 30, 2013 at 19:11 #

what a fantastic lineup! i’ve never been to the festival myself, but i love a good camping weekend with music, dancing and howling!! <3

  135. TJ April 30, 2013 at 19:31 #

I would like to attend because I love going on trips, meeting new people, dancing to great music, being in the beautiful outdoors, feeling the green grass on my feet, watching the people & children dancing and laughing, everyone saying hello to their neighbor and sharing, enjoying great food together, sleeping out under the stars. When you put all of this together you get the greatest reasons to exist in the first place! To be happy and free!

  136. Terryb April 30, 2013 at 19:48 #

What can be more beautiful than nature and music? I am a musician and love to camp…..Would really appreciate the opportunity to go.

  137. amy April 30, 2013 at 20:05 #

  138. amy April 30, 2013 at 20:08 #

I totally messed that reply up!! Sorry. I tried to say that after 13 years away I am finally moving back to portland and this event sums up the reason why! With hubby, 6 and 3 year old kids in tow we are leaving a great life in brooklyn for a fabulous life in Portland! my 6 year old has been waiting his whole life for this summit!! And it is perfectly scheduled 2 weeks after we arrive. Yay! Thanks for the opportunity to win tix!

  139. Jennifer Buck April 30, 2013 at 20:22 #

This is my husbands favorite event and we have unfortunately had to miss the last couple of years. This will be our last year going for a while, the new baby is due at the end of this year. Free tickets would sure help :-)

  140. Shiney April 30, 2013 at 21:21 #

I need help making my cold, black heart warm and happy again! This would do it!

  141. Rebecca Harrel April 30, 2013 at 22:07 #

My husband and I went a couple years ago and had a total hoot. Last year we had tickets, but had to go to a funeral for my grandfather instead. I hope that we can go this year, but money has not been the best this year and we haven’t bought tickets yet. We gotta go…

  142. Julia Steck April 30, 2013 at 23:27 #

  144. Jeff Eilbes May 1, 2013 at 06:14 #

I love the way bluegrass lights up my soul. With our first baby on the way, I’m not sure we can afford tickets again this year. It’s such an amazing festival, I would love to surprise my momma to be with a trip to horning’s.

  145. Nicole Cserfoi May 1, 2013 at 07:20 #

  149. Tricia May 1, 2013 at 13:54 #

I’d love to win tickets so that my husband and I could go this year. I lost my job last year and funds are very limited — we are big concert fans and have never been to this festival. It sounds awesome! Maybe I’ll even bring my cello for fun. :)

  150. littlenickloven'light May 1, 2013 at 19:43 #

I wanna dance with the peacock’s to some yonder! Horning’s hideout is a bluegrass peacock heaven! <3

  151. SanFranciScue May 1, 2013 at 21:55 #

I’ve always wanted to go to Horning’s Hideout. Had tix to see Jerry there (coming from DC) in early 90s, but show got canceled. Now my sister, her kids and my mom live in Portland, and my kids and I are in San Francisco. So this is a great opportunity to get the family together, enjoy a music festival (like my family did in North Carolina when I was a kid), and listen to a fantastic lineup of hot bands!! Summertime!!

  152. mike cummings May 2, 2013 at 06:40 #

I’ll bring the salad rolls and peanut sauce

  153. Dave May 2, 2013 at 07:27 #

  170. ML May 2, 2013 at 14:59 #

    looks fantastic

  176. Denis Mortenson May 2, 2013 at 15:26 #

I’ve not been to a music festival for over a decade. As a songwriter, nothing is more inspiring than seeing how other musicians have found their niche. The closest I’ve come recently to rubbing elbows with musicians was in Nashville, where I went in 2009 to pitch my songs to a producer in the ASCAP office on Music Row. There are, as the song by the Lovin’ Spoonful states, “Well, there’s thirteen hundred and fifty two guitar pickers in Nashville, and they can pick more notes than the number of ants on a Tennessee ant-hilll. Yeah, there’s thirteen hundred and fifty two guitar cases in Nashville, and any one that unpacks his guitar could play twice as better than I will.” If you’ve never been to Music Row, the thing that will probably stick with you is the huge sculpture of naked young people dancing in a circular fountain at the place where you enter the long straight streets where all the major labels have offices. A block or so from the BMI and ASCAP offices is the Songwriters Guild of America office, where Cyrus cut “Achy, Breaky Heart.” It would be fabulous to win a pair of tickets – better than Nashville!

  177. Rogue Robertson May 2, 2013 at 15:32 #

I am beyond broke and my new fiancée loves bluegrass. Please help me make some magic happen this summer!

  178. Claire May 2, 2013 at 15:38 #

my boyfriend went to MerleFest last year and has been dying to go to another event like it on the West Coast since he moved back to Portland. This would be a great opportunity!

  179. juniper May 2, 2013 at 15:46 #

    violets are blue,
    roses are pink.
    pick me to go
    to the summit of string!

  180. Cora May 2, 2013 at 16:05 #

Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh! I would soooo love to go to Horning’s Hideout for the String Festival. I have always wanted to go!!!

  181. April Ruthie May 2, 2013 at 16:23 #

WOWZA- there’s folks who wanna fly in from FAR FAR AWAY for this- how AWESOME!
I grew up in the South (egads!) but moved to Portland 15 years ago- I would be the one with the BIGGEST smile, and a very VERY happy date would be by my side too.
My biggest reason other than love of the music and love of HH? I am trapped in my dungeon finishing writing my dissertation (which might be the worst piece of scholarly writing EVER but at this point I could care less) and will be released back into the wild at the beginning of July- jobless but with a big monkey off of my back- I would be a hootin’ and a hollerin’ for shizz!

  182. Amanda May 2, 2013 at 16:29 #

Wow, Pipeline… you so sooooo cool for giving these away! I would like to attend because Summit is an amazing collection of talented, caring, free-spirited individuals who all just want to party in Bob’s woods. Plus, I think this is best lineup yet!

Hash Tag: Magical (whatever either of those things really mean…?)

  183. Michelle G May 2, 2013 at 16:31 #

I’ve always wanted to check out Horning’s Hideout and this seems like the perfect event!

  184. Ally May 2, 2013 at 16:33 #

Great opportunity to expose my 3 year old daughter to various types of music! She loves music like me and to dance! Great family bonding moment!!!

  185. Bertie May 2, 2013 at 16:35 #

I love yonder and NWSS but i haven’t got paid yet. I need these!

  186. Andy May 2, 2013 at 16:37 #

Well. I don’t have time to read through all the posts, but I’m sure everything that needs to be said has been said. And, props to everyone for only stating that Horning’s is “Magical” four times in all the entries (dang, well, five now). Been to this event ten out of the twelve years and there’s no way I’m missing this year’s lineup, even if I have to sell my wife’s car. In any case, surprised to see NWSS on PDX being given away for free and I’m just putting my name in the giant hat.

  187. Ken May 2, 2013 at 17:26 #

Strummit has a great lineup this year. I would LOVE to be chosen to win this.. Thanks for reading this far.

Come on pipeline-we’re friends right? Just give me the tickets. I promise I won’t tell. It’ll be just between us friends. Come onnnnnn… I can’t afford it otherwise. You can’t tell cause you can’t see me but I’m on my knees begging as I type this. If I could upload a picture I would.

  204. Allysa May 3, 2013 at 08:14 #

  207. Jen May 3, 2013 at 10:24 #

The line up this year looks smokin’. Saw Yonder on 4/20 and sure would like to see them again at String Summit! Danny is always a treat. A real highlight would be to see Dave Grisman. It is time for me to reconnect with these fantastic musicians at the 2013 String Summit!

  208. Dana May 3, 2013 at 10:27 #

I wanna go! Hornings Hideout is beautiful.

    Hey!

I’d love to win these tickets for a few reasons. First of all, this would be my third year flying out from the east coast to come to Summit. Every year is more than amazing – the people, the music, and of course the beautiful Hornings Hideout. Getting these tickets would help out with the plane tickets and be an amazing gift to my brother who is getting married this August. Ironically he is getting married at Hornings, so what better of a gift!

    Hope I win them!

    Thanks,

    Adam

  214. Wheels May 3, 2013 at 13:19 #

The Horning family had a vision and created its reality; a beautiful place on Mother Earth to share music, art, dance, love, and bring people together in peace. Thank you for sharing your space with so many folks and giving such a beautiful platform for all the positive energies to flow! PEACOCK!!! ;-)

  231. Allison Vasquez May 6, 2013 at 20:54 #

PRESS the strings! PRESS, don’t pluck!

Or so said my harp teacher. She never mentioned picking… I could be on the verge of a whole new way to play the harp, people!

And it’s my birthday. And no one loves me. Also, my cat got hit by a car.

  252. Megn May 9, 2013 at 14:32 #

Like most people, I love bluegrass and strings and wish I could pluck. Unfortunately I cannot, but I sure do appreciate it a whole bunch! I am on the very low end of the financial spectrum, so winning tickets to this is the only way I get to see this incredible music (other than street artists). Also also, I would take someone for a hot date. Wahoo!

  253. Kelley May 9, 2013 at 14:37 #

Hornings is a magical place and these bands are amazingly talented. Couldn’t ask for a better combination!

  254. Pete May 9, 2013 at 14:49 #

My friends go to this every year and I can never afford the tickets to go with them. Not only could I go this year but I would make the second ticket available to another disabled veteran like myself. You want to talk about amazing mental therapy…..this festival is it!

  255. William Stewart May 9, 2013 at 14:52 #

    Summit Me!!

  256. Lindsey May 9, 2013 at 14:56 #

I heart bluegrass!! I would be so stoked to win these tickets — thank you!

  257. Kyle S May 9, 2013 at 15:03 #

Just moved here from Nebraska, where bluegrass music flared like my great aunt’s heartburn after a full meal of cornbread and beans.

Now I’m in Portland, where I’ve been told I can find just about anything I’d like… but it won’t come searching for me.

I sure would love a pair of tickets to the String Summit – if nothing else to get a nice sweet taste of home from 1600 miles away.

    Take me there…

  258. adriana May 9, 2013 at 15:26 #

    incredible -

  259. Madison May 9, 2013 at 15:44 #

I would love to attend String Summit this year. The combination of beautiful people, amazing music, and the wind through the trees makes for an unmatched experience at Hornings. I have never been to the festival yet, but hoping to make this year the one!

  264. molly Barbano May 9, 2013 at 16:32 #

I would love to connect with people through music and soul! I have not been to a festival like this and have a huge appreciation for bluegrass music. I am a full time student and worker. I need something like this to look forward to and enjoy! Thank you!

  265. Erica May 9, 2013 at 16:34 #

  267. James May 9, 2013 at 16:38 #

  288. Claw Hammer May 10, 2013 at 09:00 #

I’m going to sneak legendary picker and prior Bluegrass Boy Peter Rowan into the fray. Then we’re gonna busk tree side under the guise of the Free Portland Airforce. The time will eventually culminate with a promenade to main stage where Pete will reveal his true identity and I will return to camp to prepare some rabbit soup–just like in the ole days.

  289. pam May 10, 2013 at 09:37 #

  294. Sarah May 10, 2013 at 12:49 #

I NEED to win these tickets so I can take tell them to shove it and go any way! Since I wont be getting a paid while Im partting it up, free tickets would be incredibly nice ! :)

Amazed! Just stopped in to check on good ol’ PDX Pipeline and I see this Bluegrass fest. It reminds me of my favorite bluegrass song and is so fitting! I sing this all the time and I have to share. It is called “Love will roll the clouds away” :

Love will roll the clouds away
    Turn the darkness into day
I’m so glad I now can say
Love will roll the clouds away

When the road is rough and long
And the world is cold and gray
Lift your voice in happy song
Love will roll the clouds away.

  310. stephanie May 12, 2013 at 22:34 #

As a family of 7, we are looking for the most cost effective “staycations” we can find this summer. This exposes our children (ranging form age 6 to 20) to music and camping. love and all things that come from music festivals that we cannot always afford to take them to!

  311. Aaron Levinson May 16, 2013 at 17:14 #

Pick me I wanna go so bad!!! I yonder the mountain that this will be the best summit of strings that had ever been assembled at the hideout of hornings with wild peacocks!

  312. Jamie May 17, 2013 at 10:01 #

Yonder, Salmon, Comotose, and Law….together at Hornings??? I can’t think of a better place to spend a weekend.

  313. Jamie May 17, 2013 at 10:03 #

Yonder, Salmon, Comotose, and Law….together at Hornings!! I can’t think of a better place to spend a weekend.

  314. jojodanca May 20, 2013 at 19:59 #

Went to my first nwss 2 years ago with some (not so cool..fans of bottles) kids and had a blast anywho. Im sure lack- o- funds is a pretty common reason for needing tickets, as is mine…I pack in light, and leave behind near zero imprint besides smiles . Been working way to hard, for way to little for, way to long , and really need a reason to believe that a good heart, bad vocabulary, and unrealisticly optimist sense of humor can score me a ticket to the show. Sure getting miracled in is always an option, but after all this hunt n’ peck typing… my finger hurts. might have to quit my job to make it regardless win or lose, but either or, thanks for opportunity to better my summer, and of course….rest of my life. 2 tickets you say??? I will bring the best person (none of the not so cool kids I spoke of earlier) to improve the expierence for all..

  315. jojodanca May 20, 2013 at 20:01 #

damn..didnt read the fine print and missed ya by a week. whoops another case of the mondays.

This is THEE BEST FEST! I volunteer every year for the past 11 years. My boyfriend has never been and I am poor, so winning a ticket, as well as a plus one for a wonderful friend that cannot afford to go as well would be amazing.

  322. Juliet June 7, 2013 at 09:02 #

    Always been a dream!

  323. Bird June 9, 2013 at 18:44 #

  324. Greg June 12, 2013 at 12:42 #

I don’t think some over the top reason for wanting to go will increase my chances, so I’m gonna go with this…. I’d love to go and take my wife. What a better way to surprise that special someone than with tix to a string music festival! Pick me!!!! :)

  325. bill July 5, 2013 at 21:48 #

All time favorite place to see a concert :)

  326. linz July 11, 2013 at 10:57 #

I think music Is something that a lot of people underestimate as a power to bring all different types of people together, to heal people, to keep people going. Each new experience lets individuals escape reality for a little bit longer, blows some fresh air in our faces and reminds us of the reason(s) we keep on going, it lets us let go for a little bit. Never experienced horning’s but I’ve heard it adds even more “fresh air” so to speak to the experience. I’d love to be able to breathe it all in.

  327. justin brandon July 17, 2013 at 10:19 #

Have you already given all the NWSS tickets away? I really want to go

  328. Jeremy Brill July 19, 2013 at 11:53 #
