Desire Lines, the new album by Glasgow, Scotland indie-pop group Camera Obscura, was recorded last December when the band decamped to Portland to work with GRAMMY nominated producer Tucker Martine (R.E.M., Spoon, My Morning Jacket) and pleased with the progress they made there, they returned a month later to finish it. Entitled Desire Lines, it’s now slated it for release on June 4th (3rd in UK/EU).

Tracyanne Campbell from the band, “Of all our records this was pretty much the most challenging to write, partly because of the situation we found ourselves in with having to take such a long and uncertain amount of time out, but also because it would be record number five and we were getting harder and harder to please.

Working in the US with southern gentleman Tucker Martine was a positive experience. He brought a certain calmness to recording that wasn’t there before. We were also delighted to have Neko Case and Jim James sing on the record too. What a treat.”

No way! I’m Scottish but ashamed to say I’ve never heard of them. My favorite Scottish band is King Creosote but I’d love to see these guys

  10. Heather June 17, 2013 at 14:39 #

After Floyd broke my heart I spent a week in a dusty library reading books written by girls. Before, I’d been footloose and fancy free; it was all honey in the sun. Now I can’t see further than my own nose at this moment.

I guess what I’m saying is this maudlin career has come to an end I don’t want to be sad again, so please give me tickets to Camera Obscura.

Either you really love Camera Obscura or you just Googled their song names and arranged them cleverly… regardless, your efforts deserve a reward. My friend just bailed and I have a free ticket if you want it. If so, reply and we can meet near the venue before the show.

I’m very intrigued here. If your goal is to get people out to find and enjoy new music from artists playing in town, then sign me up because I’ve never heard of this group. After looking into them (thank to your write-up), it sounds like this show is going to be awesome. I would love to check out a new band…especially one from Scotland with such good reviews :)

  28. Tim Poundstone June 20, 2013 at 14:27 #

Love Camera Obscura….”Lloyd, I’m Ready to be Heartbroken” is the perfect response song to Lloyd Cole and the Commotions song from the 80’s…”Are You Ready to Be Heartbroken?”

  39. Shad Woodworth June 21, 2013 at 07:11 #

Camera Obscura–when my wife described them as a Scottish indie pop band, the milk in my coffee curdled. She bought a ticket for herself. I have listened to them on the sly over the past week, but can’t admit to her that I like the sound. I’d love to surprise her by showing up an proving I can recognize when I’m wrong.

  40. Jessie June 21, 2013 at 07:19 #

My vote is for the guy above. I’m his sister-in-law and believe me, he’s not wrong often ;)

  41. Nicole smith ryan June 21, 2013 at 10:08 #

I don’t want to beg, as I do consider it rude. But heck! Sometimes you have to fight for what you want in life. Haven’t had a night out in ages, this is the perfect night to celebrate, and we love love love Camera Obscura and the opener! This would be a gift! Make my world PDX Pipeline, please?!!!
