The 12th Annual Northwest String Summit returns to Horning’s Hideout (North Plains, OR) with the finest acoustic pickers and standout electric bands from July 18 – 21, 2013. Located just 20 miles outside of Portland, OR, Horning’s Hideout stands as one of the most scenic festival sites in the country. A family-friendly and locally-sourced festival, Northwest String Summit caps its capacity at 4,500 attendees to ensure an intimate experience for all festival-goers at an incredible ticket price. For more detailed information, please visit: www.stringsummit.com.

The 12th Annual Northwest String Summit is hosted by Colorado-based Yonder Mountain String Band; arguably the top touring neo-bluegrass band in the world. Yonder will perform three nights of music, and additional national acts at this year’s festival include Leftover Salmon, Keller and The Keels, David Grisman Bluegrass Experience, Greensky Bluegrass, Black Prairie (featuring members of The Decemberists), Danny Barnes, Darol Anger, Deadly Gentlemen, Head for the Hills, Larry & Jenny: The Keels, Poor Man’s Whiskey performing Dark Side of the Moonshine with guest artist Allie Kral of Cornmeal, Milkdrive, Polecat, Brothers Comatose, Iron Horse – Pickin’ On Modest Mouse, and The Congress! Pimps of Joytime will also perform a late-night main stage set on Saturday, July 20, 2013.

Northwest String Summit partners with singular Portland organizations, food vendors and emerging Pacific Northwest-based musicians as a way to support the various thriving local communities. Celebrated Eugene, OR favorite Ninkasi Brewing Company will offer exceptional craft beers onsite for the third year-in-a-row, including an exclusive small-batch NW String Summit Festival Specialty Brew called Clusterpluck Session Ale. Made with Northwest Pale Ale and Honey malts, Clusterpluck is a light and refreshing golden ale — the perfect accompaniment to a summertime jam session. Ninkasi will host the Northwest Local “Ninkasi Brewing” Stage @ Cascadia Acoustic Coffeehouse, which will feature some of the region’s finest bands such as Scott Law & Chris Funk – The Roots of Johnny Cash, Fruition, Horse Feathers, Shook Twins, Giraffe Dodgers with Allie Kral of Cornmeal, Sugarcane, and Big E’s Magik Mornin’ Show, and last year’s band competition winner Betty and the Boy.

2013 Northwest String SummitString Summit event promoter Skye McDonald comments about the forthcoming festival, “This year we are going into our 12th String Summit and we are delighted to refocus our programming on strings and acoustic music, the foundation of the festival. While there is plenty of pickin’ and singin’ at this year’s Strummit, when the clock strikes midnight, there are surprises in store that will ensure a huge rockin’ dance party that is sure to get the trees shaking and the peacocks howlin’ along with the crowd!”

The following artisan food trucks will provide delicious food options for festival-goers: Nosh on 7th, Bunk Sandwiches, Toast, Thai Volcano Express, Solarshots, and others TBA. Northwest Local “Ninkasi Brewing” Stage @ Cascadia Acoustic Coffeehouse will serve a variety of non-alcoholic beverages, baked goods, and snacks from local favorites such as Trailhead Coffee and Voodoo Doughnuts.

Now in its 10th year, the Band Competition at Northwest String Summit reigns in some of the hottest pickers from all across the country. The competition is in line with other top festival competitions, such as Telluride Bluegrass Festival and Rockygrass, and will occur on Friday, July 19, 2013. Four bands/musicians will be chosen by a panel of judges including members of Yonder Mountain String Band and festival staffers to compete for the winning crown (each band will perform for 10 – 15 minutes). The winner is awarded an opening slot on Sunday, July 21, 2013, and a paid slot at the following year’s festival. The Band Competition is a single mic only set-up, and only acoustic instruments are allowed (no DIs, no drums).

Horning’s Hideout is one of the most magical forests on the west coast. I have had some of the most beautiful moments of my life on that land, listening to bluegrass, watching my friends completely bliss out. There’s nothing like NWSS, Hope I can make it there this year! ohhh and I love me those peacocks. YEEHAW!

  12. Mckinzie June 18, 2013 at 19:31 #

I have decided, reluctantly, to start acting like an adult and to begin paying a lot of debt down and not spending money on concerts. Which means I am working extra and having a fairly music-less spring. So I am trying to win these tickets to have a vacation and see some awesome bands live. Please help me be responsible!!!

  13. John June 19, 2013 at 06:26 #

Haven’t seen some Yonder in way too long. Would love to go.

  14. Emily June 19, 2013 at 08:25 #

    Please and thank you!

  17. Ryan June 19, 2013 at 09:20 #

worth the price just to see Keller Williams on a stage. that guy is amazing. last time i saw him he rocked out “rikki don’t lose that number” on a stand up bass and brought out a kaos pad and turned the last few minutes of his set into an all out techno jam.

also. iron horse. they deserve some attention.

  18. Audrey June 19, 2013 at 09:21 #

    beards, y’all. lots of ‘em.

  19. Kelsey June 19, 2013 at 11:30 #

I have heard about how great this festival is but haven’t had the means to go. I saw Horse Feathers in Moscow, Idaho last year and they were wonderful. I would love to see them again along with all these other talented musicians. I love taking photos at these events and would love sharing them with you!

  20. Lexx June 19, 2013 at 11:34 #

I’ve been to every NWSS so far and would love to make it to the 12th! 3 nights of Yonder in beautiful Horning’s Hideout is a win/win. Maybe I’ll do a dunkaroo if I win.

  21. Andrzej June 19, 2013 at 13:06 #

My new friend is going, too

  22. Summer June 20, 2013 at 07:37 #

    I love this festival!

  26. Taura June 20, 2013 at 07:46 #

Most years things come together, this year they didn’t. I’ve still got hope and it’s a magical place…make the magic happen. My 7 year old says I should wish for it. I’m even forgetting how much I curse walking the damn hills, up/down/up/down, all weekend long. So I wish and I hope I see you there.

  27. JEn June 20, 2013 at 07:46 #

Last year was the first year I attended NWSS. It was mind blowing and life inspiring. So naturally I bought my ticket early for this years event. I would like to win tickets because I would love to “pass it on” and bring some of my amazing friends that I know would love to come but are on a tight budget. What they dont realize is the tickets are priceless for the experience, the ambiance, and the people they get to spend a weekend with.

  28. Chrisi June 20, 2013 at 07:49 #

Strummit is one of the best festivals on Earth! I can’t wait to go back year after year.

  29. Andy June 20, 2013 at 07:50 #

I signed up as a volunteer but was unable to attend due to my wife’s family reunion. Always put family first that’s why if I win I’m taking my wife!!

  30. Christine June 20, 2013 at 07:52 #

If I win, I’ll be joining friends traveling across the country from Maryland for their first time in Oregon!

  31. Rickie June 20, 2013 at 07:59 #

I’d love to win tickets, looking forward to this years line up!

  32. Creo June 20, 2013 at 08:01 #

Huge bluegrass fan and would love to see some LoS and Greensky.

  33. Luna June 20, 2013 at 08:03 #

I almost cried when I saw this post that was shared on facebook. I thought all potential of going to String Summit had been lost, but I saw this and it gave me a little bit of hope!! I would love to be able to watch some of my favorite bands perform at the beautiful Hornings. I would also love it if PDXPipeline could help make it happen for us! I would just ball my eyes out. Turn left at the peacock!!!

  34. Lori Haddan June 20, 2013 at 08:04 #

Best festival ever!!!! I’ve got two mini bluegrass fans that would LOOOOOOVE to go!

  35. Ira Steinberg June 20, 2013 at 08:05 #

I’d love to join the debauchery and great music at Strummit if given the opportunity. Thanks.

  36. Tigg Orr June 20, 2013 at 08:05 #

Was there in ’09, ’10 & ’11, but had to miss last year. Will have to miss this year too unless I win these tix! Would love to hear those peacocks again!!

  37. Rob June 20, 2013 at 08:09 #

This really is the premier festival of the NW! Can’t be beat.

  38. Terry June 20, 2013 at 08:11 #

Been to Horning’s multiple times for Cheese – never for Strummit. Doing the twofer this year (driving from VA) and can’t wait to be back in Oregon!

  39. David June 20, 2013 at 08:14 #

I love the String Summit and have been a dedicated volunteer that has only missed two of them since they started (The first year with Grisman is still my favorite). It has been a joy to watch NWSS and Hornings grow and expand over the last 12 years as more and more people discover this amazing venue. The friends I have made while working Traffic, Campgrounds and Security are some of the dearest brightest spirits I have ever known. The crew of volunteers do this out of deep love for the place and the ones that come back every year will frequently work 20 hour days doing whatever needs to be done to keep things moving. Their “weekend” will last from the Tuesday before the show till the Tuesday after, and usually involves stand out in a dusty field while everyone else is dancing to their favorite band. Some years I have gone and not even heard an entire set of music all weekend, and I am still hugely grateful for the experience. Now I have 2 small kids and my son Ivan will turn 2 on the 22nd. I can’t afford the full ticket price for my wife and I, and cannot afford to volunteer for a week in order to be there (or the several days of recovery time that always happens after), but I would love to have my boys birthday party at my happiest place on earth, twirling in the bowl to Darol, and Danny, and the Yonder boys

  40. Michael Satterwhite June 20, 2013 at 08:14 #

The Northwest String Summit has brought a consistently amazing line-up of musicians to the beautiful Pacific Northwest. This year’s lineup looks to be even more of the incredible entertainment. My hat’s off to the organizers. I’m fundraising director for the Pickin’ in the Pines Bluegrass & Acoustic Music Festival here in Flagstaff. I have a very good idea of the hard, hard work that results in such amazing shows. Keep up the good work!

  41. Jessica June 20, 2013 at 08:16 #

NWSS is a magical festival…I fell in love with my future husband there, taught our son to dance and love banjo music there, and love it as a place to reconnect with our family of choice. This is the first time in 7 years that we weren’t able to afford tickets. It’s a tradition for a family that I really hope we can continue this year. Looking for a miracle!

  42. melly June 20, 2013 at 08:16 #

Want want want! I am a NWSS virgin and desperately want to be exposed. Puhlease help a broke sista! Horse Feathers, Yonder and Cornmeal oh my!

  43. Sarah June 20, 2013 at 08:19 #

If I don’t win tickets, no String Summit for me this year. :(

  44. Travis Sandoval June 20, 2013 at 08:20 #

My wife and I used to go to a music festival once a year for our vacation. The last several years we haven’t been able to due to money constraints. It is out absolute dream to go to Hornung’s Hideout for this Fest. I know another summer will go by without a festival/camping experience unless something amazing happens. Please make it happen! :)

  45. Brian June 20, 2013 at 08:20 #

I’m volunteering for the show, but I would love to take my family who have never been.

  46. Michelle June 20, 2013 at 08:21 #

The music at this festival speaks straight to my heart

  47. Amberlyn Sifuentes June 20, 2013 at 08:21 #

I would love to win these passes because I’m a newbie festival goer, and I would really love the opportunity to go to an event like this! I am a divorced mother of 2 and just don’t have the funds to afford to go! This would be an amazing prize for me! I’m dying to see Yonder, and experience the beautiful Horning’s Hideout!

  48. Rcminnesota June 20, 2013 at 08:29 #

I will give everyone I see there a hug. I love NWSS, the people at this festival are the bee’s knees. Ps. I have been rocking PDX Pipeline on my I phone for a long time, thanks for the heads up.

  49. Lindsey Painter June 20, 2013 at 08:30 #

As the summer of 2012 approached and festival season began I began searching for the ultimate festival. I wanted to experience something incredible that I would tell my kids about someday, something that would take my breath away and make me feel out of this world. I found that festival, Northwest String Summit. This year due to issues with money, I can’t afford to drive up and go to this magical place. The lineup is simply amazing, the crowd as always will become part of my large festival family, and Horning’s Hideout will be absolutely beautiful!! I would be forever grateful to go up to North Plains and dance among the trees and the musical explorers like myself! :)

  50. Mandy Hurley June 20, 2013 at 08:31 #

String Summit is my favorite weekend of the year! I start looking forward to the next year as soon as the festival is over. Counting down the days :)

  51. Rachel June 20, 2013 at 08:36 #

I went last year and had the best time of my life! I swear I was smiling the whole weekend. It would be awesome to win passes for this year!

  52. Rebecca Harrel June 20, 2013 at 08:40 #

Pick me this time! I need a miracle :)

  53. Beth June 20, 2013 at 08:42 #

To enjoy a weekend of music with my family at Horning’s.

  54. Cedar Buffington June 20, 2013 at 08:43 #

I need! I need! Pretty please!

  55. Laura Parcel June 20, 2013 at 08:44 #

I have my ticket, but my closest friend and her husband have never been able to afford to go, because the tickets, plus childcare for their special needs son exceeded their vacation budget.
This year, they almost had enough money for one of them to attend, and then medical ate up the extra.
I would love to receive even just one ticket, so I could surprise her husband with the ticket he couldn’t afford this year. Two would be a miracle. And four would take the whole family, giving an autistic child and his brother their first camping experience and first introduction to bluegrass.

  56. Cedar Buffington June 20, 2013 at 08:49 #

I need! I need! Pretty please! Would love to go.

  57. Sean June 20, 2013 at 08:52 #

I was at the first NWSS and have been able to bring my older boys to several. Now we have a third boy, just turned two, and we would love to get the family back to the best fest in the northwest. Exposing the kids to music is one of our goals and NWSS is the greatest place to do it. Thank you for the opportunity to dream about getting back!

  58. Dana June 20, 2013 at 08:54 #

String Summit!! Best. Festival. Yessss sir!

  59. Allison Cole June 20, 2013 at 08:55 #

i want to go to strummit to make up for some missed times last year. i’ve been to 8 strummits now, and i must say i’m ready to be welcomed home.

    • Caitlin Maloney June 22, 2013 at 16:18 #

Allison! Whoopee doopey! Lets meet uo

  60. Shaun June 20, 2013 at 08:56 #

We’ll be pickin’ all night long! Pick me!!

  61. Angel June 20, 2013 at 09:00 #

“PICK ME!” …Bob Horning’s Hideout for North West String Summit is a magical place. One year there were 16 different musicians on-stage passing the picking sounds on down the line, and the next year it multiplied to about 25… almost couldn’t fit them all on the stage. No matter on the actual number of musicians that arise, It’s a guarantee Strummit! I’d sure like to be a part of this bright end of Spring event this year, and toast PDX Pipeline for making it happen w/ a craft Ninkasi brew from the beer garden. Cheers, please!

  62. Erik Good June 20, 2013 at 09:02 #

I would love the chance to see these awesome musicians at Horning’s Hideout. I’ve heard this venue is incredible but have never had the opportunity to enjoy it.

  63. Liz June 20, 2013 at 09:03 #

My sons and I have been going to Summit for years – they’ve practically grown up there. It is a sweet camping weekend for us, with awesome music in a beautiful location. My baby is growing up, and is now at the age where we need to buy three tickets in order to attend. As a single parent, this is out of my budget. We’d LOVE the opportunity to return this year to spend some wonderful bonding time! Thanks!

  64. Ellen June 20, 2013 at 09:10 #

Nwss is my favorite weekend of the year. Beautiful place, people and music.

  65. blake stanton June 20, 2013 at 09:19 #

The wife and I would love a weekend away from the kids. I’m sure the grandparents would love to watch them.

  66. Caitlin Maloney June 20, 2013 at 09:21 #

String Summit and Hornings is my home! I missed last year and hope I can afford to go this year. Can’t wait to get out and boogie in the bowl!!
    PDX Pipeline, you’re the coolest!!

  67. Michelle June 20, 2013 at 09:25 #

Holy Northwest YES! I’d love to attend, I’m a virgin to both.

  68. Paul Girouard June 20, 2013 at 09:26 #

I personally have never been farther north than Arcata, CA on the west coast.. It has been a dream to see the Pacific North West and what better way than the NorthWest String Summit!

  69. Christian June 20, 2013 at 09:27 #

This is the most amazing weekend of the year!! We drive up from the Rogue Valley every year to enjoy the beautiful music and scenery at Horning’s. This will be my 3rd Strummit, and this is the first year that I plan to go with my son’s mom and our kids. I ca’t wait to welcome them home! :D

  70. Jeff June 20, 2013 at 09:32 #

The String Summit is absolutely positively my favorite festival. The lineup this year is incredible with so many favorites from Danny Barnes to Leftover Salmon & local favorites like Black Prairie & the Shook Twins. I’ve been out of work & would really love to WIN a pair of passes! That would make my summer!!

  71. Robin Palmer June 20, 2013 at 09:41 #

This is the best festival I’ve ever attended hands down- the music, the venue, the people, absolutely cannot beat it! My boyfriend asked me out at my first String Summit and my life has never been the same. Would love to take us both this year!!

  72. carolyn keane June 20, 2013 at 09:51 #

I have been wanting to go to string summit for years! it looks beautiful!

  73. Meredith June 20, 2013 at 09:55 #

We attended the very first String Summit back in 2002, and continued to take our family and turn our friends on to it for seven years. It has been awhile since we have been and it would be lovely to visit the peacocks again and introduce our youngest to the fun of the String Summit. Great lineup this year too!

  74. Morgen (I'm 3!) June 20, 2013 at 09:59 #

Hello! My mom and dad met at a Poor Man’s Whiskey show and they haven’t been to a blue grass festival since before I was a speck of cells. My mom dances like crazy to any music with a banjo or fiddle and my dad likes to hula hoop. They are trying to teach me how to dance to music but I’m just not getting it. I’d like to surprise my parents with tickets to the Northwest String Summit because they have worked SO hard at keeping me alive and happy for three whole years and they’ve missed out on A LOT of festivals. My mom has never been to Horning’s (and neither have I!) and my dad keeps telling her how cool it is. I don’t think they can afford to go to the festival and I just know they will buy me a pony if I can get them tickets to the Summit. Please help me get a pony! Please?

  75. Kath June 20, 2013 at 10:00 #

Beautiful atmosphere, and incredible, stellar lineup!
Never seen Grisman live, gives me chills just to think of that alone!
Super proud to see my home-state boys, Greensky, on the bill with the likes of Yonder Mountain String Band and Leftover Salmon (They do deserve it all right!).
Last but not least, my dear friend who has been fortunate enough to attend many, many more festivals than I have, considers Horning’s Hideout to be The very greatest spot of all. Countless times she has mentioned, due to my absolute adoration of great musicians and the great outdoors, that I “need to go” to Horning’s Hideout. Whenever anything reminds her, she says “I miss Horning’s,” in the wistful and passionate tone with which one might speak of a person… such as some certain superlative lover from years ago, about whom she ought not ever fantasize anymore and yet deep down she still longs to see him again… Well, I feel extremely fortunate to have moved to California, where the magical land of Oregon is actually within reasonable reach!!!

  76. Kelly June 20, 2013 at 10:01 #

Brothers Comatose!! I heard them on the radio and would LOVE to check them out! Of course I love all the others, but i REALLY want to see these guys. I’ve never had the pleasure of going to either Horning’s OR the String Summit and this year I can get off for the whole of the festival. I’d love to surprise my honey and introduce my kid to blue grass culture. Cheers and good luck to all who’ve entered!

  77. Peter McLean June 20, 2013 at 10:03 #

Im the only Peter to comment thus far. Peter like his tickets free. Help Peter become a real man this summer.

  78. richard June 20, 2013 at 10:05 #

i would love to attend this festival. i have friends who went before and all they had was good things. i tried to volunteer but no luck.

  79. MelissaS June 20, 2013 at 10:06 #

My boyfriend broke up with me there last year. I’d like a second chance to see how amazing String Summit can be. Don’t get me wrong, I raged on and had a swell time with a fake smile and all, but this year, I want to feel the magic of the venue, the music, …the late nights in the campground. I want to fully enjoy everything this year that I couldn’t last time. Help me get there.

    • Nic June 20, 2013 at 19:03 #

So, because you got dumped, you deserve tickets to this premier event? We all get dumped and we don’t get free tickets to anything, aside from a one way ticket out of relationship town. The other 100+ people on here seem like they need financial help to go, not because they were shamed A YEAR AGO! Sorry to be so harsh, but i just think that these tickets should go to someone with a valid reason to want/need to go.

  80. David June 20, 2013 at 10:07 #

I really want to take my wife to the Northwest String Summit! It encompasses ALL our favorite bands and she REALLY deserves a break. My lady has done a super job with our little kid and we think we have another on the way so this is our chance to still be a small family unit at a giant festival. We promise to enjoy EVERY MINUTE of music, food, friends, and fun. I hope I win so I can show her the magic of Horning’s and my incredible dancing skills. Thanks!

  81. Stephanie delage June 20, 2013 at 10:07 #

I’d love to go again this year!!!!

  82. Shannon June 20, 2013 at 10:10 #

My boyfriend has gone to NWSS since the first year and has never missed one. I’m on year 8. I haven’t missed one since I moved out west. Because we are moving next week, affording tickets is a bit of a stretch. We met at string summit 4 years ago and have been happily in love since. We have a lot of friends and family who attend and are adamant bluegrass fans. The music, the people and the magical atmosphere are what makes hornings a can’t miss experience. Help us to keep the magic going!

  83. Megan Moondancer June 20, 2013 at 10:16 #

<3 HOLY HORNINGS HIDEOUT!!!!! <3 I would love love love to win a pair of tickets to NWSS!!!! I've wanted to come to out to Hornings for longer than I can even remember and I am ~some might say~ obsessed with YMSB!!! Too bad being landlocked in the Midwest due to finances have kept us from venturing as far west as Oregon ;( So when I saw the opportunity to win tix to such a magical and awe inspiring "home" to see YMSB, LoS, Keller aaaaannnndd Greensky?!? (Pinch Me!!! I MUST be DREAMING!?!?!?!) I knew I had to immediately voice my desire for my boyfriend and I to attend this majestic and beautiful experience and meet our West Coast family and friends!!! We are sooooo grateful for the opportunity to broaden our horizons all the way to the Pacific!!! I just want to take this last second and say thank you again to PDX Pipeline, Northwest String Summit, Hornings Hideout, and all the contributing artists for providing me the opportunity to make my summer road trip and festie dreams come true!!! Good Luck to everyone entering and hope to see at the Hideout!! ;) <3

  84. Jillian Bliss June 20, 2013 at 10:23 #

  85. Amanda June 20, 2013 at 10:27 #

  86. Martin June 20, 2013 at 10:34 #

I HAVE TO GET THESE TICKETS SO I CAN SHOW MY GIRLFRIEND HOW BADASS BLUEGRASS MUSIC IS … and the pacific northwest is the best. Would be nice to see Mr. Danny Barnes as well!

I’ve been taking my boys there the last 7 years…just finished up a less than lovely divorce and this is the first year I can’t afford to go. Would really love a miracle and the opportunity to keep this oh so special family tradition going. I think it would heal our souls a lil bit to dance together again.

  96. Mark Bonner June 20, 2013 at 12:11 #

I’d love to win these tickets. My partner just got laid off from work and we can’t afford to go. Please help us out.

  97. Flanders June 20, 2013 at 12:19 #

  98. Bonnie June 20, 2013 at 12:26 #

Please pick me!! I never get to go to this because it’s so freakin’ expensive and I’m culturally deprived…

  99. Hazel June 20, 2013 at 13:00 #

The math problems to submitare getting harder….

In any case, I would absolutely love to win these tickets. My friends have been trying to get me to go as we’ve been able to camp with them for the last 4 years. Stupid me, this year I decided to not lose our home, so we couldn’t get tickets (wife wasn’t positive about the decision).

I would love to surprise her with tickets to go hang out with friends and see some of the best music coming through the Northwest this summer.

  100. Shawn Woods June 20, 2013 at 13:00 #

I want a 2nd chance to win, because I won tickets through NWSS, but I was out of town fishing for Salmon; and wasn’t able to reply in time.. So bummed !! And I eventually lost out on going !! I love Horning’s Hideout; and all my favorites band are playing.. Best of Luck to everyone !!

  101. Sarah June 20, 2013 at 13:24 #

im unemployed this year, and its such a great festival. i really want to hula hoop to some bluegrass in their bowl and see what puppets they have in store for saturday night.

  102. Wendi Morse June 20, 2013 at 14:21 #

I’m still trying to talk my hubby into going this year! Free tickets would go along way to persuade him it’s a great idea!

  103. Sonja June 20, 2013 at 14:29 #

I would love tickets to this festival – my preschooler and I are both huge bluegrass/fiddle fans. Thanks.

  104. Sam June 20, 2013 at 14:31 #

I play disc golf at Horning’s Hideout all the time, but have never seen a show or camped there. it looks like it would be a wonderful experience and some great music. I could use an extended staycation right about now too!

  108. jackie June 20, 2013 at 14:44 #

I have been goin to String Summit since 2006 & it is like a family reunion now, except I have been unable to get tix yet! I could really use a free set of tix!! :) this is an important year for me.

we love this music and such a rare opportunity to get to hear it live at such an amazing festival!

  110. Whitney Thompson June 20, 2013 at 14:51 #

I would be so grateful if we won these tickets because my boyfriend and I have been the past 2/3 years. It’s where we met and where will plan to marry. We plan on getting married randomly if and when ever Yonder plays our specific song. Everyone is trying to make ends meet nowadays, and we will always do what we have to in order for us to make it there, but this would just make for an amazing surprise for Rylan (my boyfriend), and would make our lives a heck of a lot easier. His birthday is also July 24th and it would really make for an amazing birthday present. We love NWSS and will come back every single year no matter what. Please pick us!

  111. d@Ve June 20, 2013 at 15:00 #

got a friend coming to town just for this, and no way no how can i afford to go, unless…

  112. Dave June 20, 2013 at 15:00 #

Every year, friends of mine tell me that I should join them at the Northwest String Summit to enjoy the incredible music at Horning’s Hideout, a beautiful venue. Every year, I have an excuse for not going. Too much work. Not enough money. The sun is in my eyes. The dog ate my homework. Etc., etc., etc. Well, this year I’m able to go and I would LOVE to win a pair of tickets to experience this fantastic event. Thanks for running this contest!

  113. Lukas Borsten June 20, 2013 at 15:01 #

I plan on busking and playing music with friends in bands there. No time for sleep, just amazing string music!

  114. Jamie June 20, 2013 at 15:07 #

  115. Heather June 20, 2013 at 15:09 #

  116. Dave G June 20, 2013 at 15:20 #

Wow, I can’t tell you how wonderful it would be to win tickets for my birthday. I love the whole line-up and hope to surprise my wife with tix when she gives me my bday gift. So awesome. Even if I don’t win, I am stoked that I even had the CHANCE. Thanks!

  117. Cory June 20, 2013 at 15:24 #

What a greathoneymoon for my me and my soon to be wife since we have to skip it this year to pay for our wedding!!!!!!!!!!!

What a blessing this would be!!!!!!

  118. Harry June 20, 2013 at 15:32 #

Love Hornings for disc golf and music. I was going to purchase a pair of tickets in a silent auction fundraiser but my bid got sniped at the last minute! I guarantee we would make the most of this opportunity.

  119. Alex June 20, 2013 at 15:44 #

    because it would be lovely

  120. TJ June 20, 2013 at 15:47 #

My wife said we can go this year! If I win free tickets…

  121. John June 20, 2013 at 15:58 #

Hornings is about the best venue for a festival anywhere, love the place, string summit bands, and the crowd! I haven’t been to attend the last few string summit years due to work, money constraints, etc So I would be one of the happiest campers in North Plains if I won a ticket!!!

  122. Grace June 20, 2013 at 16:06 #

Hey PDX Pipeline! This will be my first summer as an Oregon resident. I haven’t been to Horning’s Hideout yet….

    First Portland summer
    Peacocks and bluegrass galore
    Make my freaking day

  123. Gayle June 20, 2013 at 16:16 #

I want to propose to my girlfriend of 2 years at String Summit. I want to take her hand and walk her over the little bridge by the pond and ask her to be my wife. If I won the tickets, I could use the money I was planning on using to buy our tickets, and actualy buy her a ring. Please help make us the 2 happiest girls in town.

  124. Katie June 20, 2013 at 16:43 #

  129. April Ruthie June 20, 2013 at 18:36 #

i would happily nap my happy valley friends and take them to their own backyard where fun would be had by all and then some!

  130. Nic June 20, 2013 at 19:09 #

This is a great place. I want to get my YONDER on, but alas, can’t afford it this year. I want to be apart of the BACON camp this year! They cooked up over 100 lbs of bacon last year. The smell was delightful every morning. Yes! I’m a hippie and I eat BACON!

  131. Darlene Love June 20, 2013 at 19:29 #

Would love to bring my 14 year old son, who is a musician, to his first ever venue at Hornings Hideout 12th Annual String Summit. I came last year for the first time and can’t wait to come back. To share in the love that is present, and the talent that is presented would be such an inspiration to a young new artist. We live in remote NE Oregon in the Wallowa Mountains so it will be a journey of magic and discovery on every level. I hope this works out so that he can get time off from his dish washing job at Terminal Gravity Brewery to enjoy the bliss. Love and light to you.
Hope to see you on the other side.

  132. rye palmer June 20, 2013 at 20:08 #

Hello- I’ve been going to the NWSS since it’s inception. I love it so much! My buddy Ryan Moore started the festival and I saw the first yonder show in portland, at the snake and weasel, it was quite epic. I’ve been hooked ever since. Here’s hoping I win free tickets- a resent move has crippled my wallet-
    Have a great summer!

  133. Phil June 20, 2013 at 20:53 #

I have only been to this event once in the past and it was an amazing experience. I would love to go again!

  134. Laura Ispass June 20, 2013 at 21:54 #

This would make me so ridiculously happy to win tickets.

  135. Heather June 20, 2013 at 22:56 #

We have gone with our family the last 2 years looking for a family tradition and found it. We thought about going without the kids this year and they wouldn’t have it. They’ve been practicing their fiddle tunes and getting ready for mad hula hooping, crafting, dancing, and falling asleep to the sounds of late night Yonder. Please help this family get in this year!

  136. Heather June 20, 2013 at 23:45 #

String Summit is amazing and a festival not to be missed!!!

  137. Eric June 21, 2013 at 07:59 #

  140. steve klein June 21, 2013 at 09:24 #

Bluegrass is the original alternative country music.

  141. Kelly June 21, 2013 at 09:53 #

Praying to the festival Gods that I may be honored with a free pass to awesomeness. I’ve never been and always want to go. The cost is keeping us home but a festival is what our family needs right now. Peace and Love to all.

  142. Emily June 21, 2013 at 09:59 #

I am a homegrown Portlander and have been wanting to go to this for years. As a teachers assistant and then a graduate school student, I was never able to afford it. I recently graduated and what an amazing grad present this would be! Yay!

  143. Gia Akcabay June 21, 2013 at 10:23 #

It will be our two year anniversary in the place me and my honey met during the 10th Annual NWSS at beautiful Hornings Now we have a baby on the way and would love to go but need to save money. It would mean the world to us if we could win some tickets! We both love strummit so much!

  144. Emily June 21, 2013 at 11:31 #

I would love to go to NWSS because a) I’ve never been. b). I grew up on good ole Appalachian/Blue Ridge Mountain old time music that my dad played and that feeling strings give you is incomparable to most genres c) I’m so inspired by the fusion of well known bands and local talent that NWSS brings. Folks in the NW are so facilitating to small time musicians trying to make their mark in this world and with the help of home grown festivals like Strummit, they are one step closer to their personal ambitions…. and d) obviously Hornings Hideout is a special place that locals rave about and I NEED to witness this magic.

  145. Sharon Leibowitz June 21, 2013 at 11:54 #

I can’t afford to go this year, haven’t missed a Strummit in 5 years. I’d be so grateful to be chosen.

  146. Lily Peacock June 21, 2013 at 12:25 #

I love String Summit. Horning is da best. I’ll be honest, I just wanna dance and sway in the bluegrass winds. Infinite gratitude for y’all even doin a give-away to this amazing event. I hope I get lucky!

  147. Shannon June 21, 2013 at 12:39 #

Please pick me to go because I am the biggest Pimps of Joytime fan of all time, but have never seen them at this venue! I promise to Dance, hula hoop, and make friends!

  148. Kelly June 21, 2013 at 12:59 #

I hope they pick a winner soon! I’ve been checking my email every 10 minutes! :) Love reading the comments, too!

  161. Valerie Murfin-Bos June 22, 2013 at 16:44 #

I don’t need the tickets, as I am volunteering in, and have already paid my impact fee. I would like to enter for a surprise wedding gift for my daughter and her new husband. My daughter is a wonderful woman who has not always had good things happen. After the death of her son, and a divorce that often follows the passing of a child, she finally found love with a wonderful man. I am on a extremely small budget, and aside from making the dresses, I could not afford a wedding gift. They have been married a little over seven months now, I would absolutely LOVE to be able to give them a honeymoon, and share the amazing experience of Hornings Hideout and the North West String Summit. Thank you so much for considering my entry.

  162. Stella June 22, 2013 at 16:46 #

Strummit is still on my bucket list. The music, the people, the venue are a magic i’d like to experience.

  163. Cindy June 22, 2013 at 17:07 #

My sweet man & I met at NWSS – we’d love to go back and re-experience the magic of the peacocks and Hornings is the greatest place for a camping music Fest!

  164. Nate Meyer June 22, 2013 at 17:25 #

I attended SCI at Hornings Hideout last summer and it was friggin’ magical. I was signed up to volunteer at String Summit as well but had to cancel for various reasons. Would love to win the pair and bring a pretty gal with me, cheers!

  165. Jenny June 22, 2013 at 17:43 #

I attended String Summit for the first time at Hornings 4 years ago and it changed the way I looked at life significantly. The feeling of family is strong there and it is something everyone should experience. Unfortunately funds are low this year, but I would love to win some free passes and make it back home :)

  166. Matt burke June 22, 2013 at 18:22 #

I’m so excited to see I still might have an opportunity to win tickets! I lost my job a couple months ago and their is no way I can go this year Unfortunatly. I’m hoping to win my ticket and give the extra to someone who is in the same boat as me since I only need one. This is my second year at string summit. Last year I went but only for one night. I would really love To go the whole week and have the full on experience and with such a great lineup this year please give me something good to remember by this summer!

  168. carloline June 22, 2013 at 18:56 #

I have made some of my closest friends at the strummit. I’m now living out in Asheville and want to come back to celebrate my friend-iversary with everyone and dig up the time capsule!

  169. Jacqueline June 22, 2013 at 18:59 #

NWSS was the 1st festival I have ever experienced. Horning’s Hideout is my home away from home and I’m trying so hard to save up to go! I have been waiting since the last day of NWSS to go back and it’s FINALLY here. If I won these 2 tickets I think I’d cry! Then smile and give the other to my BFF who can’t go due to saving for surgery! Please make it so my BFF and I can frolic with the peacocks and see our family again! Thank you :)

  170. Matt June 22, 2013 at 19:21 #

It is in the muddle of an exciting 3 week trip of hiking and camping, bringing me to Strummit in the middle. I’d like to be able to enjoy it in it’s entirety without concern for how to pay for it and how to manage while I am there. I am SO looking forward to it!

    Dearest PDX Pipeline friends,
This would make my last Northwest summer dreams come true! I have a good friend planning to come to town from Las Vegas and want to give her some time a world away from shiny rims, bling and hair extensions. Sadly, I cannot afford a music festival this year and was too late to sign up for volunteering. Finding this post made my day! Please help my friend have a real organic musical Oregon experience, and me dance my last Northwest summer festival. It would make me oh so happy, truly. Thanks so much for reading!

    Cheerfully,
    Ash

Growing up in the Appalachian Mountains of Virginia I have lived and loved bluegrass and flat footin’ and miss the regular jamborees out here in the west but love that there are so many great concerts and festivals. I have never been able to make it to NW String Summit and would absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE to win tickets so I can finally make it and dance my tush off and flat foot ’til the soles of my feet are raw!

  184. Chris June 27, 2013 at 11:28 #

I would love to win NWSS tickets! I just moved here from the east coast and I have heard nothing but great things about Hornings and I’d love to experience it for myself. I’ve even got some buddies flying in from Colorado for it. But I can’t afford tickets at the moment. So it would be great to win some and show my friends from CO how awesome Oregon really is!

My house was broken into & robbed while I was out of town last weekend. Which pretty much ruined this weekend & for the kicker they are trying to ruin next weekend for me as well because they stole my physical tickets to the shows. I tried to see if I could get them cancelled and just print new ones instead of the fancy printed tickets. True turning it into insurance but probably won’t hear back from them on the specifics of what they will/won’t cover specifically. So anyways toss some love my way or if anyone has an extra they would like to kick down, I’ll make it worth their generosity in trips to Luxurious Scenic Destination
with help of Directly Motivated Travel. peace & hope to see you there.

because Danny Barnes is a musical monster and my kids need to be exposed to what he does in person

  192. Erin July 7, 2013 at 08:10 #

  193. Captain Monday July 7, 2013 at 13:03 #

Met the best kisser at this festival two years ago. Coffee and Sake and Bluegrass. Mmmmm.

  194. marcus July 7, 2013 at 18:00 #

    stoked for string summit!

  195. Jeff Greenlee July 8, 2013 at 16:40 #

I am buying a ticket for myself…. So this appeal is not for myself. I’m a banjo/fiddler and I’m going to rock out! I consider it a bargain! Especially compared to the Pickathon prices, which I have witnessed the elevation of dramatically over the years… to the point that I doubt I’ll go to that event anytime soon!).

No, I would like to apply for a pair of tickets for my Sister and Brother in law. Kate and Frank. Who live in Portland. Frank is a struggling teacher.. and they are both fighting the good fight, trying to turn this country’s messed up educational system into something much better than it is. But a teacher with a family is a raw and undervalued deal now… so they cannot even afford NWSS tickets, and I’m sure they are bummed about it. I was planning on grooving with them! Now it’s just me. :(

So I would like a pair to spring on them.. It would be a great and happy surprise!

    Jeff!

I want to go to NWSS because I have wanted to go for the past six years and for some reason or another (mainly work) I have not been able to go. I have committed my summers for the past three years to grassroots organizing work and have organized campaigns around banning plastic grocery bags in Eugene, OR, building Marine Reserves on the Oregon Coast, and increasing the quality of meat served in the federal school lunch program. I just graduated from college in June, giving me a bit of a break before I begin working again in the non-profit sector.

I have committed my adult life to public service and plan to continue to do so. I love good music, and Yonder Mountain String Band is my favorite band to listen to. I met the love of my life three years ago at a YMSB show and my first festival when I was a teenager, YMSB played (in West Virginia). I haven’t seen them in a while and I finally am not working and would be able to attend the event. However, not working means less funds. Things are tight right now and I am having trouble coming up with the money for the ticket.

Lastly, I have a peacock tattooed on back. It goes from my neck to my butt. :) I was met go to this show and I need your help!!!!!!!

I love this music and being with like minded people enjoying the beauty of nature and a shared experience. I have taken a job that will not allow me weekends off and this is the 2nd to last weekend that I can enjoy. I can’t think of a better way to spend it and would be grateful for the chance.

  198. Emma Rush July 10, 2013 at 15:35 #

Being able to attend this years String Summit would seriously make my year!!! It looks like everyone who has already commented on this page deserves these tickets just as much as I do and the person who wins will be one lucky son of a gun! But i’m hoping that lucky son of a gun will be me. I would love to be afforded the opportunity to be apart of something so magical. There arent words to express how amazing the line up for this years Summit is. I haven’t been granted to opportunity to attend NWSS ever before and it sounds like an experience of a life time. Help a sista out and get me to this years NWSS!!!! Much love

  199. Matt July 11, 2013 at 15:23 #

Because this sounds like a really great time!

  200. Audrey July 12, 2013 at 01:15 #

I need these tickets!!!! !!’ You know I already have my ticket, i always have my ticket! I need these to get my BFs a way in! I’m tired if flying solo to these things and festivals are better with your bestest!

  201. Jess July 15, 2013 at 09:38 #

When I first moved to Portland I couchsurfed with some really cool cats. Turned out to be fruition string band helping me get on my feet. What luck! NW string summit is my favorite festival because of the amazing people that attend. I met my best friend there and I would love to take him back this year for another adventure!

  202. Alison July 15, 2013 at 16:51 #

Because I want to rock out with my peacock out!!!

  203. Jessica July 16, 2013 at 11:36 #

My best friend and I had such a magical time together at NW String Summit we promised we would go back this year. We havent been able to swing it because next month we are both moving away, to opposite sides of the country. It would be awesome if we could have one last hurrah together at our favorite festival before we have to say goodbye to Oregon and to each other.

  204. Greg July 16, 2013 at 18:45 #

Approximately two years ago I met my best friend/adventure partner/life partner in Portland shortly after moving here. Last year we had the privilege to attend String Summit for the first time in which I volunteered (Mike Buck is the man!). We got to meet a lot of really cool people, watch a meteor shower with Fruition playing in the background until sunrise, and of course enjoy three great Yonder sets. We have both been saving our money up for our own separate travels which will begin in about a month. We have been brainstorming quick money making schemes so we can come to the Summit, but none of them have worked out. It would be so amazing if PDX Pipeline could get us there to be with the amazing community that is String Summit to send us off in our separate directions with more great memories of Horning’s Hideout, all the great bands set to play, and most importantly the people we will graciously share all we have with! Either way we have nothing but love for Horning’s and the Summit, but I hope to see all of you Friday!
