Rhye is the product of two synced paths crossing at the right time and place. The two artists who comprise Rhye had been fond of each other’s work for some time, and it was when one member was working on a remix for the other that they started to collaborate. They had begun talking about the remix at hand, which led them to the conclusion that maybe they should adapt that remix into a whole new song that could be done together.

They had never met in person, so one told the other to meet at a train station in Norreport, Copenhagen. Upon arrival, they immediately started working on the song together. They ended up with three songs they were proud of, which would ultimately end up on their full-length. It all just clicked. Both of their styles of making music completely complimented each other and working together flowed effortlessly.

Eventually, one of them moved to L.A. and the other happened to be coming out to shoot a music video. They met up with two friends from a record label and played them the songs they had made. From that point, the project took off growing into a full length album.

DJ Cooky Parker
Cooky Parker has been scouring the basements of record stores, the far corners of the world, and even less likely places, constantly on the search for a demo or rare gem that will make you run for the dance floor! Motown/Stax, Northern soul, New Orleans R&B, Girl Groups, Funk, Popcorn soul, Doo Wop, Brill Building pop, and Beach will all get a spin on the turntable. By handpicking sets each night DJ Cooky Parker will make for an unstoppable night of shakin, twistin, jumpin and even mashed potatoin!! So come on out to shake a tailfeather and if it is your pleasure do “the Double Bump” or maybe “the Funky Penguin” or even better “the Pop-eye!”

Hi, my name is Molly. I just saw this opportunity when browsing the web. I haven’t seen either DJ Cooky Parker or Rhye before, yet I’ve heard both. I recently discovered Rhye through a friend, and I think it would be a nice way to repay them for the intro… and of course I’d love to go! Thanks!

I heard Rhye the first time last week. I was enchanted. I saw the CD for sale Starbucks the person in line in front of me bought it before I could but now I see you’re giving away tickets! I’d love to see them in person.

Rhye’s Open is the first song my now boyfriend shared with me.
Rhye’s Woman is the first vinyl record I bought for my now boyfriend

0:10 of “Open” is when the brass section triumphantly enters.
I’m not sure if there’s a trumpet playing in the background, but 0:10 reminds me of a
Trumpet: A resounding call, as that of the elephant.

It would be a magical magical dream to see Rhye play live in Portland.

  23. Em L August 2, 2013 at 05:06 #

My best friend, Nina, is leaving Portland to move to the Bay Area on August 8th, the day after Rhye’s Portland performance.
During rainy and rough nights, when we were stressed about work or relationships,
We would sit on the porch and listen to Rhye’s album.
Rhye’s music evokes a lot of the memories I share with her.

It would be amazing if I got to take her to a Rhye concert on her last night in Portland.
