On February 21st Intown Church and Antler Gallery present the ninth annual Works, an event celebrating the artists, musicians, crafters and culinary wizards who contribute to the vibrant creative community in our city.

The fundamental reason driving this long-running event is our delight over living in a city where we are surrounded by a community that pursues their creative passions. Portland is enhanced immeasurably by the people who choose to live here and share their creativity with us.

Works takes place amid the gothic atmosphere of one of Portland’s historic landmark buildings, The Old Church. Local bands 1939 Ensemble and Sean Flinn and the Royal We will provide an evening of live music in the beautifully ornate sanctuary. Storytellers and poets will entertain with their tales and verse. The adjoining reception hall hosts a one-night exhibition of visual artists, curated by the Alberta Arts District’s Antler Gallery, and booths where visitors can buy handmade crafts by various Portland makers.

In addition to the audio/visual cornucopia we will be serving locally sourced food prepared by chef and caterer Berkley Braden of Chef Berk and ice cream from Portland’s farm-to-cone ice cream shop, Salt & Straw. We also invite you to enjoy great beer from Widmer Bros. Brewing and cocktails mixed by Dogwood Distilling of Forest Grove.

A percentage of the proceeds will benefit p:ear, an organization mentoring homeless youth through education, art and recreation.

The acoustics at the Old Church are really great. We saw Julianna Barwick there recently. Great venue for this benefit night of artistic works. I have some guests visiting from San Jose and would love to show them a slice of Portland and it just happens that it is one of my visitor’s, Amy’s, 25th birthday!!

I have moved back to Portland after 40 years. For the last year and a half since returning, I have been doing volunteer work teaching art at Atkinson elementary, Metropolitan Learning Center and Project Grow-a farm and art studio for adults with disabilities. I am trying to give what I can to Portland and the art life here. As a severely underemployed artist and teacher, I could sure use a night out with some friends and have my first experience at Old Church. It sounds like an amazing place.

The art presented on the blog spot looks amazing and fun. I am a fan of the styles and would love to see it in person, of course while enjoying the bounty of Oregon’s culinary and beverage expertise. I am always amazed by the number and diversity of events happening in Portland- it is what makes this city amazing!

As a ‘starving Artist” myself, i can appreciate the effort and beauty of what is being offered within the walls of one of the oldest iconic churches in the area. Portland is wonderfully full of talented people all bringing their gifts to this city. We all deserve a fabulous night out, & i would be most humbled if i was the ‘one’ to which your amazing team decided deserved this particular night out!

  20. Maria February 21, 2014 at 11:40 #

Let’s see… Great Bands, the chance to mingle with amazing local Artists, Gourmet food by one of PDX’s best chefs, cocktails, AND SALT & STRAW??? All for an awesome Cause? It’s like an amalgamation of all my favorite things in one gorgeous space!

i stumble in a chaotic art blur reality to a new life decorated by portland influences unaffected by television serials or contemporary thought forms. thank the current for continuing to rise and to reflect the half shaded radiance of a falling tomorrow. rock rock on.

  22. Chuck February 21, 2014 at 15:41 #

My life has become incredibly dull. This looks not dull, fun even. Please save my boring life.

  23. jerrod February 21, 2014 at 16:33 #

Last year I bought a painting from the good folks of Antler. I’m excited to see what they have on display this year.

Also, I heard Chris Carlson will be playing his electronic magic via his iPad app. This alone would get me out of the house.

Lastly, I’m more than giddy to see all the good people of the community come out and support the arts that our precious Portland embraces so well.
