Visiting the Portland Japanese Garden in Spring

Come visit the spectacular Portland Japanese Garden, the most authentic Japanese garden outside of Japan. Featuring five traditional styles of Japanese gardens on 5.5 acres in the scenic West Hills of Portland, Oregon, this must-see, year-round destination is open daily except on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s.

Every season in the Garden is lovely, and in the spring the Garden is waking up. Lush green new growth on all the plants is accompanied by flowering camellias, followed by azaleas, magnolias, wisteria, Japanese iris, and finally water lilies.

Year-round programming includes art exhibitions, classes, workshops, and traditional festivals. Our onsite gift store offers treasures large and small.

We love culture and gardening. My husband and I are coming on our teen year anniversary. How wonderful would it be to have a romantic day at the Japanese garden. Since we both give our time and money to a non profit organization, to help others, we normally don’t afford our selves much outings. This would make it possible.

  16. Lea Anna May 1, 2014 at 12:23 #

I love spring time at the Japanese Garden. I haven’t made it up there yet and this would be a good opportunity.

  43. KAT May 1, 2014 at 16:30 #

Since the explosions at Fukushima, the likely hood of my visiting Japan has greatly diminished. But the fact the beauty and serenity of a Japanese Garden can be experienced here in Portland, (I am fairly new here and have not been) at least offers the next best thing.

  44. Don Disner May 1, 2014 at 16:31 #

It’s been over ten years since I’ve visited the Japanese Gardens, but I still remember it very well. Why haven’t I visited? I don’t know. The dog ate my homework. The sun was in my eyes. I didn’t realize that I was driving 85, officer.

Seriously, there’s no excuse for going this long between visits. Hook me up with tickets and I promise that I’ll visit more often.

  67. Milp May 2, 2014 at 00:28 #

Godzilla has me crazy for Japanese culture!
