Weekend passes are $99
Tickets & Full Schedule of Events at www.bridgetowncomedy.com

The seventh annual Bridgetown Comedy Festival will be held May 8–11 at venues throughout Southeast Portland. Four-day passes are now on sale for $99; a complete festival schedule, with single- ticket door prices for individual shows ($5-30), is forthcoming. A roster of performers and special shows is now available at www.bridgetowncomedy.com.

New additions to the 2014 festival programming have just been announced.

  • For the first time, more than 100 of our 200 performers are making their Bridgetown debut, representing the best new talent from throughout the United States and Canada.
  • Just added to the lineup: Comedy Central star and Twitter prankster Nathan Fielder (“Nathan for You”), alt-comedy favorite and master impressionist James Adomian, and comedy legend Emo Philips.
  • Two shows titled Baron Vaughn Presents: The New Negroes, in reference to the Harlem Renaissance movement by the same name, showcase the best young black comedians in the nation.
  • The Show That Dare Not Speak Its Name, curated by James Adomian, showcases the best young LGBT comedians in the nation.
  • Headliner Reggie Watts, the ingenious performer who blends improvised music with comedy and serves as the one-man “house band” on IFC’s Comedy Bang! Bang!, will perform on multiple shows throughout the four-day weekend.
  • Paul F. Tompkins will bring book-smart comedy in the form of The Dead Authors Podcast, a live show featuring hilarious impressions of literary icons.
  • Comedian W. Kamau Bell will bring his blend of social commentary and hilarity to several shows throughout the weekend, in addition to stand-ups who were staff writers on Totally Biased: Hari Kondabolu, Eliza Skinner, Aparna Nancherla, and Janine Brito.
  • A special showcase, Voodoo Doughnut Recordings Presents Ian and Nathan and Friends, will celebrate the release of a 7-inch record featuring sets from Portland-bred favorites Ian Karmel and Nathan Brannon.
  • Anchoring the festival will be two venues at the Doug Fir Lounge, the Squarespace Stage indoors and the Jupiter Tent outdoors.

This year, Dan Harmon (creator of Community and co-creator of The Sarah Silverman Program and Rick and Morty) and his co-host Jeff Davis (Whose Line Is It Anyway?) bring their wildly popular live show Harmontown to Bridgetown, complete with its ongoing game of Dungeons & Dragons. Kumail Nanjiani (Portlandia, stand-up special Beta Male) and Jonah Ray (the Nerdist podcast) give Portland a sneak peek of their live show The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail just prior to it being broadcast as a weekly Comedy Central series.

Portland comedy staples Shane Torres, Amy Miller, Kristine Levine, Alex Falcone, Sean Jordan, Barbara Holm, Nathan Brannon, and dozens of others will represent the Northwest’s top talent. Also of note is that Australian stand-up sensation Wil Anderson will descend upon Portland for the first time.

Bridgetown’s 2014 lineup features native Portlanders who have gone on to rule the comedy world and shape nationally televised comedy series. These include Matt Braunger (The Michael J. Fox Show, Maron, Up All Night, MADtv, Family Tree) and Ian Karmel (Chelsea Lately, CONAN).

Volunteers

The Bridgetown Comedy Fest is currently seeking volunteers for the 2014 festival—three shifts (12 hours over the course of the weekend) will get you a general admission wristband to the whole festival, normally $99 for a weekend pass.

To apply to volunteer, go here.

Venues
Festival venues include the Doug Fir, the Alhambra Theater, the Hawthorne Theater, the Bossanova Ballroom, and the White Owl Social Club, in addition to more informal performance spaces along Hawthorne Boulevard. With a single wristband, you can see dozens of shows over the course of one weekend. You can quickly hop from seeing a sold-out show in a theater to seeing a national headliner in an intimate setting on a bar’s back patio.

Get your 4-day passes here! With a rep for being “comedy summer camp,” we added a limited number of Bridgetown Fantasy Camp Passes that offer hotel accommodations, party access, and tons of perks. Experience Bridgetown 2014 like a performing comedian does by buying your pass here!

  • Squarespace Stage at the Doug Fir

First off, I’m a big comedy fan. I went last year, but after looking at the lineup wasn’t blown away. The more I look into those performing though, the more impressed I have become. Love the different venue setup, after MFNW reformatting think this may be the best curated festival in the city. Hope I win!

I have a few friends in town and would love to take ALL of them; having a few extra free tickets would really make this even possible for our small budgets!

Thank-you for the chance PDX Pipeline…you all rock!!

  8. Skye Blue April 30, 2014 at 20:19 #

I’m starting to thinkI’ll never win tickets from PDX Pipeline. You don’t like me?

  9. Dan Wheeler April 30, 2014 at 23:48 #

I’ve been attending for 5 years and volunteering for 2. I’ve busy enough at work that I can’t volunteer this year. If I won the pass at least I’d still be able to see a bunch if awesome shows!

  11. Cobie May 1, 2014 at 08:04 #

  12. Grant May 1, 2014 at 08:49 #

  13. emmy May 1, 2014 at 11:14 #

  18. David May 1, 2014 at 15:24 #

I am also a “huge nerd” for standup but unlike some people who shall remain nameless (but rhyme with “Testica”) I only post once for free tickets.

  19. Lori May 1, 2014 at 15:26 #

I don’t laugh on a regular basis nearly enough, but my best friend, on the other hand, laughs continuously and is a die-hard stand up fan. I would love to be able to do with Bridgetown comedy adventure with her. Thanks!

  20. Allie May 1, 2014 at 15:36 #

Whaaaat?!? How did I not realize this was happening so soon? Pleas pick me!

  21. Thomas May 1, 2014 at 15:36 #

    Yes. And yes please.

  22. Daphne Faison May 1, 2014 at 15:39 #

I need this but I don’t know it yet. In fact I’m not even writing this comment. He is… and I have no idea. My boyfriend and I won’t see each other for most of the summer and I’m the most wonderful lady he has ever met. If I won tickets to the bridgetown comedy fest, I’d think he was really cool and we could laugh so much beer will come out of both our noses. Simultaneously.

  23. Anna May 1, 2014 at 15:40 #

Reggie Watts is a musical and comedic genius and I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to see him live but I can’t afford the tickets. I am pregnant so if I win I will represent for all the sober people in the audience and I promise to laugh as loud as loud can be, and I can laugh pretty dang loud! Getting this baby used to loud guffaws in utero! Thanks for the contest PDX Pipeline!

  24. Ashley T May 1, 2014 at 15:45 #

My boyfriend really wants to go to this! It would be great to win tickets for this year and check it out. Laughing more is always a goal of mine.

  25. Bridget May 1, 2014 at 15:46 #

I would love this so much!

  26. Mark May 1, 2014 at 15:47 #

  30. Sam May 1, 2014 at 15:50 #

This would be sweeeeet! Wanna specifically see Paul F., Kumail, and the Voodoo Record Release could not be more Portland if they tried. Love it.

  33. Jim Withington May 1, 2014 at 15:59 #

I recently moved back to Portland after 2 years away. My girlfriend and I have had some tough years (including half a year in different cities) and this would be an amazing celebration of my return!

  34. Kasey May 1, 2014 at 16:02 #

Laughing and making people laugh are two of my favorite things! My family keeps pushing me to pursue stand up comedy (yes, my mom does think I’m funny) and so I’ve been trying to go to more comedy events. I caught a bit of Bridgetown last year and had a great time (helped that my friend and my sister both got hassled a bit by the comic)! Like many aspiring comics I’m broke as a joke so winning tickets would be, well, rad! Thanks PDX Pipeline!

  35. Mike Schwartz May 1, 2014 at 16:03 #

    Because of jokes.

  36. Jenny May 1, 2014 at 16:05 #

    I could use a laugh!

  38. birdonit May 1, 2014 at 16:11 #

My only plans for that weekend is to stalk Reggie Watts. Having a festival pass would make that so much easier.

  39. Mr. Ezel May 1, 2014 at 16:11 #

First off I’m gonna chug a bunch of milk, if it’s a hot weekend. Then I’m gonna head over to Bridgetown comedy fest. I will immediately regret continuing to drink milk as it will shoot out my nose cause Reggie Watts is hilarious!!! Cafeteria-style pick me!

  40. Kate May 1, 2014 at 16:14 #

I would love to bring my husband to this! He has had a stressful couple months, and could really use a weekend of visiting new-to-us Portland hangouts and laughing.

  41. zoe May 1, 2014 at 16:16 #

  43. Lisa May 1, 2014 at 16:19 #

Because I could use a reminder not to take life so seriously.

  44. Cheryl May 1, 2014 at 16:22 #

It’s been a rough 7 months since my sweetie injured his leg and has been off work. We both love comedy….he has thought about being a comedian but has not pursued it yet. I have a wonderful boisterous laugh that comedians love……we could BOTH use some major laughs now…..t

  45. Bill W. May 1, 2014 at 16:27 #

I would so like to laugh….for hours and days on end. The time is now. :-)

  46. Scott May 1, 2014 at 16:38 #

This sounds like so much fun.

  47. Lisa May 1, 2014 at 16:39 #

I could use a few good laughs!

  48. Sherry May 1, 2014 at 16:41 #

I’d like to win because it’s been a rough year of long days and craziness at work. The best way to releive stress? Laughter! And hopefully it will be a celebration of the end of my long work projects (ending May 5th @ moment). Just in time for this comedy festival. :)

  49. Andy May 1, 2014 at 16:49 #

I’ve never been around this much comedy in one shot! Paul F. Tompkins wrangling a Dead Authors Podcast live, and of course W. Kamau Bell would both be incredible to see live. What an overwhelming opportunity to be fully exhausted by a mind-fu*k of comedic genius and experimentation!

  63. Jackie May 1, 2014 at 20:22 #

    A Poem:

  87. Aaron Wheeler May 2, 2014 at 14:14 #

I don’t need the tickets. I want them. And its for comedy, so half of these posts should be in honor of comedy. Sadly, I have failed in that regard. So in my defeat, tickets would be a pleasurable upper. Cheers!

  92. VTN May 2, 2014 at 21:50 #

I am new to comedy shows. Sad personal events in the past few years have made moving forward in my life challenging. I would love to try out a new medium (comedy) of art to help sooth my sorrows, or at least to create distractions or develop a different perspective on life events to help carry my feelings to a different space.

We live in Eastern Washington and have come to Portland for each of the previous Bridgetowns. We can’t make it work financially this year. Our good friends who live in Portland are trying to guilt us into coming even though we’d be spending money we shouldn’t and it’s almost working… But, since it would be fiscally irresponsible of us to buy the passes, we hope you will do us and our friends a favor and gift them to us.

  117. Lauren May 4, 2014 at 18:41 #

Would love to go but cannot afford it.

  118. Justin Dorsey May 4, 2014 at 18:44 #

I need an excuse to ride my bike, and biking between comedy venues is just the ticket my fat ass needs.

  119. LIBBY HOLL May 4, 2014 at 18:46 #

ID LIKE TO WIN BECAUSE MY MOM WILL BE IN TOWN FOR MOTHERS DAY AND THE LADY HAS A SENSE OF HUMOR. I’D ALSO LIKE TO WIN BECAUSE I HAVE HEARD OF THE DOUGHNUTS, COCONUT WATER, AND SPREADSHEETS THAT GO INTO PUTTING THIS WHOLE SHINDIG TOGETHER… HARD WORK! also because i like to laugh.

  120. Vanessa May 4, 2014 at 19:09 #

I’m a huge comedy fan and would love to go!!

  121. Charles May 4, 2014 at 19:38 #

I would like to attend because I have cancer, and I’ve been told laughter is the best medicine. Wait, that might have been chemotherapy? Marijuana? I don’t know. My marrow is low.

  122. Wendy May 4, 2014 at 19:52 #

    Light(en) up my life!

  123. Joshua Ketch May 4, 2014 at 20:00 #

I’d love to take my girlfriend for our three year anniversary. In the interest of a fair exchange, I have prepared a joke. What did the fish say when he ran into the wall?

    Dam!

  124. David May 4, 2014 at 20:27 #

I am just a hard working dude who can’t afford the tickets. You don’t need the sob story but my wife and I are in debt from medical issues and it would mean the world to me if I could take her out for the weekend and make her smile.

  125. Sara May 4, 2014 at 20:30 #

My husband would be so happy if I could surprise him with tickets. We can’t afford to go so this year and it would be tremendous to win. Please, choose me.

  126. David May 4, 2014 at 20:35 #

I am just a guy who can’t afford the tickets and would love to go. My wife and I are in debt due to some medical bills and it would mean the world to me to be able to take her out for the weekend and make her smile.

  127. Adrienne Airhart May 4, 2014 at 21:12 #

All of my friends are in the festival, I just turned 30 and I can’t stand the thought of repeating my high school days—never sitting at the cool kids’ table and missing out on all the fun they have, smiling at each other and banging in Ferarris or whatever they do.

I’ll be in Portland from Los Angeles to visit a pregnant friend who is shoving in my face that she’s married and pregnant at 30 and I spend my nights in dive bars telling sad jokes.

I’m a basic bitch. Help me not be a basic bitch.

    Love forever and always,
    Adrienne

  128. Alec May 4, 2014 at 21:12 #

Because im a poor college kid who is about to graduate, and because of the mountains of crippling debt im about to face i can not afford to go on my own. wouldn’t free passes be an awesome graduation present?

  129. Anna May 4, 2014 at 21:19 #

My husband and I have talked about going to Bridgetown Comedy festival for over 5 years. We’ve never been and are HUGE comedy nerds. I’d love to win this!

  130. Sean May 4, 2014 at 21:21 #

My wife and I always need a good reason to extract our butts from the comfy confines of our house and do something fun. We always wait too long to decide if we want to do Bridgetown, so if we won tickets, we wouldn’t have a choice, we’d have to go!

  131. Aristotle Georgeson May 4, 2014 at 21:21 #

As both a comedian and comedy nerd, these tickets are essential for my growth. The ability to see the best comedians in the nation convene in one place at the same time gives me a comedy boner that only free tickets can take care of. Please take care of my comedy boner before I get comedy blue balls.

  132. Conor G. May 4, 2014 at 21:41 #

I hope to make it to one show. If I win a pass, I can make it to many more.

  133. Ames May 4, 2014 at 21:46 #

Actually, I think it would be grest to win these tickets for my 60 year old mother. She loooooves PFT and Kumail, but it’s hard to convince her to spend money on herself. It would be a super fun Mother’s Day weekend. (Obviously this is not entirely selfless, I am also a huge comedy nerd who is dying to see this line-up)

  134. Alex May 4, 2014 at 21:46 #

I am a good audience member and I have the stamina.

  135. TAR May 4, 2014 at 22:06 #

    Sounds like fun!

  136. Matt May 4, 2014 at 22:19 #

I’ve been to Bridgetown every year since I moved to Portland, one of my favorite yearly events, I’ll be there either way so I’d love to win the passes. Looking forward to seeing all the new performers.

  137. Brandon Chase May 4, 2014 at 22:19 #

Bridgetown is always one of the highlights of the year for me. I’ve had the pleasure of attending a few times in the pass and always keep the laughs rolling until the very last shows offered in the evening. A couple of my friends have already purchased their tickets again for this year and I would love to be able to take my girlfriend and partake in another fantastic weekend of fun. Unfortunately money is bit tighter this year and keeping me away from enjoying a fantastic weekend of friends, fun and laughter. Unless….. I am lucky enough to win some tickets! *fingers crossed*

  138. Becca Wiley May 4, 2014 at 22:31 #

Been back in the Portland Metro area for 3 Bridgetown Comedy Festivals now and have yet to be able to attend! My boyfriend always talks these things up and I’ve never been able to see for myself. Would love the opportunity to pop my Bridgetown cherry this year but can’t afford to pop the bank account at the same time. What say you guys help a sister out?! *wink wink*

  139. Jennifer Kveton May 4, 2014 at 22:52 #

Not only am I a huge comedy podcast fan, but I’m also a fan of one of Bridgetown Comedy Festival sponsors. I’ve been listening to Funemployment Radio since it’s first episode. I’ve been lucky to hear their interviews with many of the amazing local comedians we have in town. Last week alone I got to hear Kristiine Levine, Sean Jordan, and Nathan Brannon on their show. I was hoping to get the chance to go this year to the festival, but alas, I just don’t have the cash this year. I would love to win these tickets, and can guarantee I will enjoy them to the extreme.

  140. Beth May 4, 2014 at 22:54 #

Bridgetown weekend is always one of my favorites of the year. Portland has a plethora of comedy talent day in and out, but it’s great to see other fantastic comedians descend upon us and celebrate how great of a city we have here… while taking a few jabs at the weather, the strip clubs, and Voodoo, that is.

  141. Chad Heck May 4, 2014 at 22:58 #

I’ve never been to Bridgetown, and after a couple tours with the US Army, I could definitely use a weekend of laughter with some buddies. Thanks

  142. anthony May 5, 2014 at 08:00 #

    BRIDGETOWN!

  143. Josh Mathews May 5, 2014 at 08:05 #

I am a stand-up comedy junky and I need my fix. I spend all of my money on trips up to Portland to get my laughs I so badly need.

    Peace-

  144. Lauren May 5, 2014 at 09:42 #

I would absolutely love to attend Bridgetown, I’ve been excited about it since last year! I’d love to see Nathan Fielder, Aparna Nancherla, Kumail, Paul F. Tompkins, and about a million others. Financially it’s not in the cards for us this year, unfortunately, so I’d just love to win. :)

  145. luke May 5, 2014 at 09:53 #

I can’t grow a beard and I feel sorry for myself.

  146. Bryn Stephens May 5, 2014 at 12:14 #

Laughter is good for the soul.

  147. Heather May 5, 2014 at 12:31 #

I would love to win these tickets because not only was it my husands 40th birthday Friday but we REALLY need a night out..a date night…a night away from the little guy. We don’t get out much and comedy is the best remedy, especially for the older folks, like our self. You can actually be adding years to our life span!!

  148. Ben May 5, 2014 at 15:41 #

I’m flying into town Thursday and would love to get free tickets to the festival. What an opportunity to get free tickets and use what money I would otherwise spend on getting in trouble in Rip City.

  149. Christopher Zurcher May 5, 2014 at 15:56 #

I may be one of the last to get my entry in, but if you ain’t last, you’re first… Or something.

Either way. I’ve never been and would love to go and be able to take my mom for Mother’s Day.

  150. Colleen May 5, 2014 at 16:56 #

I went to a few shows last year and CANNOT WAIT for this year but CANNOT AFFORD a pass!! I want to win so badly so I can laugh again!

  151. Jessica May 5, 2014 at 16:59 #

I am an avid comedy supporter and there are way too many good shows this year not to have a weekend pass!!

  152. forlornfox May 5, 2014 at 21:06 #

    Nathan For Me!

  153. Cesar Altamirano May 6, 2014 at 10:03 #

Because I heard laughter can cure cancer, and my obamacare hasn’t come through yet.

  154. Chris May 7, 2014 at 11:26 #

    Please please please!

  155. David H May 8, 2014 at 15:51 #

So I havent made any solid plans for a date with my wife for Mothers Day! This would be perfect because we love Portland and could walk or take a cab to the different venues and enjoy all of what Portland has to offer this weekend plus laugh our ***** off! Would definately get lucky this weekend too if you lnow what I mean!

  156. Nadine May 8, 2014 at 18:55 #

Last year we were only able to see two small shows of this GREAT fest. Would love to see an entire weekend of great comedy, then call up my niece in Denver and tell her how much better the Portland comedy scene is than the Denver comedy scene! =D

Seriously, let me and my beloved LAUGH – it’s been a rough year or two.

  157. Alan Davis May 8, 2014 at 21:32 #

I havent laughed in a while… I need to laugh. I would LOVE to attend this event and laugh my ass off!

  158. Andrea Mooney May 8, 2014 at 22:00 #

I like to laugh at funny shit!

  159. ptermclean May 9, 2014 at 07:30 #

Two words: Brendon Walsh. I have to see him. Comedy fests are so much fun… True fact, I have never been to a comedy show that was not hilarious.

  160. Brooke May 9, 2014 at 13:25 #

OMG, this is EXACTLY what I need right now! If you can’t get laid you should be able to laugh!

  161. Jacob H May 9, 2014 at 22:31 #

    I need a good laugh.
