Have you ever wondered what goes inside your cat’s furry little brain? Let Dr. Rolan Tripp, a veterinarian and animal behaviorist, take you on a guided tour through the feline mind, from genetics to geriatrics. Learn answers to questions like:

  • Why do cats hiss?
  • Why bring me a dead mouse?
  • Why head-butt people as affection?
  • Why ask for stroking then attack a person for doing it?
  • Why not just use the perfectly good litter box you provide for them?

Come to this entertaining lecture to get an entirely new perspective on the semi-wild animal in your life.

Dr. Tripp holds a doctorate in veterinary medicine as well as academic degrees in Philosophy and Music. He is an Affiliate Professor of Applied Animal Behavior at two US Veterinary Schools, and certified by the International Assn of Animal Behavior Consultants. Dr. Tripp has published over 40 articles on pet behavior, and given over 100 lectures to veterinary associations. In addition to the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC, he has presented in England, Japan, Puerto Rico, and Canada, including giving the Keynote Address at an international veterinary meeting. He has appeared on Animal Planet over 200 times as a content expert.

Food and Drink: Beer, wine, popcorn, hand pies, and an assortment of sweets and snacks available.

This talk will also be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at the Kiggins Theatre in Vancouver.

Cats have a language and it is up to us as their owners to try to figure out exactly what they are saying. Sometimes they are not saying anything and that can be worrisome! If you get to know your cat well, everything they do means something. Either to you or to them! I know that my cat will sit on my ONE leg and stare at me. This means a kitty “treat.” If she meows, sometimes it is because her dish with wet food is empty. Sometimes she will roll on her back, this means belly rub time. Sometimes she paces. This means its time for her daddy to go to bed. She is a good girl and very pretty, I wish I could bring her with me but she doesn’t like a cat cage. We have a way of getting her to take her medicine, but she figured it out and hides under the bed! So we do what we have to do to get her out and make her take her medicine, that is go cat fishing. That is correct! We got to go cat fishing under the bed with the car net. It didn’t hurt her, it worked and we got her out from under the bed. By the 4th day of playing the cat fishing game, she knew what it meant and just came out without a hassle.
