The Blazers couldn't afford to lose last night,
going back to Houston down 0-2 was not an option. Brandon Roy knew it, and decided early that he'd carry the Blazers to victory. He sliced and diced through two of the NBA's premier back court defenders–Ron Artest and Shane Battier–for 42 points, 7 assists and 0 turnovers.
Roy shot over 50% from the field (15 – 27) and hit 10 of 12 free throws. Roy also found the help he so desperately needed in game one from a likely candidate, LaMarcus Aldrige. Even though Luis Scola still gave Alrdige problems, often forcing him to receive the ball clear out at the three point line. Aldridge emerged from obscurity, putting up 27 points, 12 rebounds and 3 blocks.
The duo of Aldridge and Roy combined for a blistering 69 points in last night's win. A mark that won't be easy for Roy and Aldridge to replicate in the upcoming games. They're going to need more help from the supporting cast. Luckily the rest of the Blazers showed signs of life, most notably Rudy Fernandez, who hit a big three in the 4th quarter and ended the game with 11 points.
Defensively, the Blazers woke up. In an effort spearheaded by Read the rest of this entry »

Many experts (the talking heads you see on tWWL)
say that if you're going to lose, getting blown out is the best way to do it. With a rout, it's easier for the team to relinquish the loss and move on. Whereas with a nail biter, individuals are more likely to dwell on certain instances throughout the game that could have changed the outcome.
Based on everything I've read over the past 2 days about the Blazers and their current psyche, the experts' theory rings true. The Blazers are eager to get out on the court tonight. They want to get back to playing basketball at the level we all know that they can.
The loss has put the Blazers in a hole. Instead of winning 4 of 7 against the Rockets, they're now in a position where they must win 4 of the next 6 games to advance. A daunting task against a much more experienced Rockets team. It's not impossible. If the Blazers can get back to the way they were playing a week ago; if the supporting cast can shed their nerves and recapture the confidence. The Blazers have all the pieces to get it done.
From a basketball standpoint, they need to do the exact opposite of Read the rest of this entry »

Blazers vs Rockets: The World is Watching
Tonight at 7:30 the world will watch (Seriously,
the world is watching. This game is international, featuring players from China, Congo, France, Spain and Argentina) as the Blazers face off against the Houston Rockets.
The Rockets play a mean game: they're strong, physical and have playoff experience. Like the Blazers, they favor a slow and methodical style of play. Their size and strength creates mismatches all over the court, which they find and exploit until teams figure out how to stop the bleeding.
They're without their perennial all star Tracy McGrady, who had microfacture surgery on his knee in February. McGrady was diagnosed early in his career with a rare disease that prevents him from making it into the second round of the playoffs. He will be on the bench tonight in street clothes, I think that bodes well for the Blazers.
The Rockets Big Three:
Yao Ming is the man that makes it happen for the Rockets. Everything goes through the 7' 6'' beast from China. He's going to get 20 points 10 rebounds and 2 blocks. The Blazer bigs will try to slow him down two different ways: they'll front him or work to push him off his spots, so he collects the ball out of position. Either way, Przybilla, Oden and possibly Frye will have their work cut out for them tonight. Read the rest of this entry »
