Nov 13: “read your most embarrassing high school journal entry out loud”

From earlier post from Steph at Multnomah County Library:

Nov. 13-17: Acclaimed storytellers entertain all ages at November festival @ Multnomah County Library’s Tapestry of Tales Storytelling Festival

Multnomah County Library Tapestry of Tales event, Portland Oregon

Discover the power of a good story!

Experience the skill of professional storytellers and share your own story at Multnomah County Library’s Tapestry of Tales Storytelling Festival, Nov. 13-17.

Take a raucous romp through Love Lost, Found and Fumbled with Beth Horner. Listen to stories and songs with Andy Offutt Irwin (Most people have an inner kid. Andy Offutt Irwin has an outer one.) In addition to Horner and Irwin, the festival features acclaimed international teller Carol Russell, as well as regional tellers Rick Huddle and Anne Rutherford. Events are scheduled at various libraries and locations throughout the community; most are free.

And this festival is not just for kids! At Cringe Down Memory Lane at Belmont Library on Tuesday, Nov. 13th @ 6:30pm, read your most embarrassing high school journal entry out loud. At DIY Stories: The Day I Really Earned My Paycheck at Central Library on Thursday, Nov. 15th @ 12pm, share your best/funniest/scariest/weirdest stories from the working world.

For teller biographies, educator resources, and a schedule of events, visit the Tapestry of Tales website: www.multcolib.org/events/tales. Tapestry of Tales Storytelling Festival is supported by The Library Foundation.

PDX BONES: Part Deuce, November 7th (first wednesday) at Jace Gace

There is an evite. I don’t know how to link to it. You don’t have to RSVP, but can if you want. Just go to evite and search PDX Bones and you’ll find it. Wait, just tried and I am wrong. Well, if you aren’t on that 300+ invite list, then here is your invite and info from the invite:
PDX-BONES, Jace Gace, Portland, Oregon Domino/Dominoes Club, 97214

November 7
Jace Gace
SE 21st and Belmont
Portland, Oregon 97214

This is the second in PDX PIPELINE’s (pdxpipeline.com) series of Domino Clubs/Socials. They occur on the first Wednesday of every month. Many cities and peoples around the world regularly play in domino clubs and tournaments. This is the only known one in Portland.

We will have people playing all 5s, Mexican Train, and Texas 42. We have many sets of dominoes, but you can bring your own–hopefully not marked :)

The event is FREE. We give away prizes based on no certain criteria except randomness.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO KNOW HOW TO PLAY, we will show.
YOU DON’T HAVE TO PLAY, there will still be art, music, beer, waffles, and video happening…and just socializing

At the last event, we taught several people. At this one, there will be many people who can teach and play. It is a club, not a tournament.

Jace Gace will also be projecting various film clips, domino scores (I’ve lost a couple times), music videos, and possibly myself playing the Dominologist–beat him once.  :)

justice, a crazy night at holocene

justice, holocene, belmont, portland oregon, 97214, music

Click to play

Well it’s been a hell of a week in music…Radiohead (radiohead, in rainbows, a review of sorts…), Madonna et al, but nothing beats a big fat sweaty night out in a small club watching this week’s act of the moment, Justice tearing it up.

And I say that without cynicism as much as with a dose of reality, things move fast these days.

The Justice guys don’t DJ so much as fire off sharp, staccato cut ups interspersed with power drill bursts of synth bass lines all designed to make you bounce off the walls, and the crowd at Holocene did just that.

Not quite as intense a night as the Girl Talk blow out but still pretty impressive. Props also to Adam and Justin from Nemo Design for the cool Justice poster.

Well, Justice plays Portland, the biggest thing to hit town since the last biggest thing to hit town and you didn’t get tickets? There may be a solution. I talked to Scott Mclean over at Holocene and he tells me that there will be 50 tickets available at the door on the night of the show so you procrastinators may well be in luck yet.

Oct 6: “Tonight is the end of an era – it’s the last Sissyboy show, ever. Ever, ever – Ever!!”

Picked up this flyer the other day on Belmont and luckily, looking at LiveJournal.com, I found this and remembered.

Sissyboy Goes Away, Holocene show

Tonight is the end of an era – it’s the last Sissyboy show, ever. Ever, ever – Ever!!

Holocene
Doors open 9:30 -

Sissyboy documentary shows at 10pm – (this should be extremely interesting – as it’s been a year in the making and followed them on tour)

The boys go on afterwards.

It will be jammed packed – so get there early!!

Truly, if you haven’t witnessed the glory and disgust of a Sissyboy show, you’ve missed out on something pretty darn special -

See you there! Let’s show these boys how much we’ve appreciated their antics over the years!
