December 18-20: The Portland Gay Men's Chorus Presents Their Holiday Concert, Celebrate The Season
PGMC Collecting Donations For Esther's Pantry
The Portland Gay Men's Chorus will present their holiday concert, Celebrate the Season, December 18, 19, and 20, at Kaul Auditorium. The 125 voices of the Chorus will be accompanied by a wind quintet, harp, drums and piano. In addition to the full Chorus, its subgroup Cascade and dance troupe the Locomotions will also perform.
PGMC, now in its 30th season, will ring in the holidays with traditional and sacred music from various holiday traditions including Christmas, Advent, Hanukkah and Solstice.  The Chorus will reprise some audience favorites, including Via Olatunji's Betelehemu from Nigeria, and Brazilian composer Flory Jagoda's Ocho Kandelikas, a song of Hanukkah reflecting on the wonder and awe of the season. Hear the lush and melodic sounds of Franz Biebl's Ave Maria and Handel's For Unto Us a Child is Born. The Chorus is also excited to premiere their new commission, Dona Nobis Pacem (“Give us peace”), by Composer in Residence Robert Seeley. And of course, no PGMC concert would be complete without some folly and farce. The Chorus gives a Richard Rodgers chestnut some Portland updating and marches to a different drum with Stomp the Hall, an entertaining and rhythmic creation by Seattle composer Eric Lane Barnes.
PGMC is once again joining forces with Our House of Portland to collect food donations this holiday season for Esther's Pantry. The Chorus will be collecting non-perishable food and personal care items at the door during the concerts. Our brothers and sisters at Our House and Esther's Pantry thank you.
