November 13: Dance & Video Showcase Party Monorail @ Holocene

HOLOCENE'S DANCE AND VIDEO SHOWCASE PARTY MONORAIL RETURNS FOR ITS
SIXTH INSTALLMENT FEATURING CODEBREAKER'S STEVEN HAWLEY

Holocene hosts the sixth monthly ‘Monorail' dance party on Friday, November 13th,
the only event of its kind in Portland dedicated to the classic dance music of the late 70s and
early 80s – spacey disco, boogie funk and modern soul – and the more current sounds that era
spawned. The sixth installment of Monorail features a guest deejay set by Steven Hawley, of the
Milwaukee, WI-based modern electro-funk band, Codebreaker.

For the past seven months, Monorail's Remy (the Restless) & Lamar LeRoy have been fine-
tuning their party's unique combination of music, dance, and video and built up a devoted
following of music and dance lovers and iconoclasts. The two, joined by local and international
musical guests, deejay a mix of classic and obscure disco, boogie funk, and early house set to
renowned visual projectionist Jasten King's startling collages of film footage and
ControlledRemote.com's innovative live green screen video mixing and projection of Monorail's
dancers.

"Steven's similar influences and taste in 70s and 80s funk, soul and disco – and his ability to push
that sound into the future – make him a great guest for Monorail. In a time when electronic music
acts are a dime a dozen, it's always nice to hear people taking care in what they produce -
Codebreaker and Steven do just that. We're excited to hear what he's got in store for Monorail,"
says Lamar.

Modern disco/electro funk/proto house group Codebreaker have earned a fine underground
reputation among crate digging nerds, fussy music critics & the indie dance party circuits alike.
Frontman/brainchild Steven Hawley's relentless enthusiasm for performing & production have
recently earned high praises from the Washington Post to Pitchfork, gigs with the likes of
Chromeo to Yelle, & collaborations with the likes of Kathy Diamond, Bottin & The Juan Maclean
on his new imprint, Disco Demolition Records.

Monorail is a monthly dance and video party, showcase and music blog (monorailpdx.com)
featuring classic and obscure dance music – disco, boogie funk, early house and synth/new wave
of the late 70's and early 80's – founded by Remy (the Restless) and Lamar (aka MDY). Inspired
by the dance and video showcase formats of early 80s television shows Detroit's The Scene and
Soul Train, Monorail integrates music, dance, and video by capturing, mixing and projecting live
footage of its dancers. The performances are recorded, edited, and later released as webisodes
online and on Monorail's blog. Past Monorail guests have included Fleshtone, Soft Metals,
Dundiggy, Moonchild, Patricia Furpurse, and post-punk/funk legend, Sal Principato (of the
seminal Liquid Liquid).
