BAG&BAGGAGE PRESENTS A TERRIFYING HALLOWEEN EVENT:
THE FIELDS OF FEAR AT THE WASHINGTON COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS
Hillsboro, OR — A meteorite has landed in the Hillsboro area, releasing a deadly gas that has infected thousands of residents. The United States military has commandeered the Washington County Fairgrounds as an emergency treatment facility, and hundreds of people flee for their lives as the alien chemical transforms their friends and family into blood thirsty zombie-like monstrosities.
This is the basic storyline for Bag&Baggage Productions' latest creation: The Fields of Fear.
This October, Hillsboro's only professional theatre company is partnering with the Washington County Fairgrounds to present an interactive outdoor Halloween performance that will take audience members throughout the fairgrounds complex in a 30 minute fright-fest. Scott Palmer, Bag&Baggage's Artistic Director, said, "This is not you average Halloween haunted house event. This is a terrifying story that puts our audiences in a fight for their lives throughout the fairgrounds. It is going to be both really frightening and also a lot of good old fashioned Halloween fun."
The event begins on Wednesday October 21st and runs until Halloween night (no performances on October 25 — 27) from 8:00pm — 12:00midnight. Tickets are $12 and can be purchased online at www.bagnbaggage.org or at the main gate of the Washington County Fairgrounds in Hillsboro each performance evening.
Rachel Foran, Bag&Baggage's Production Manager for the Fields of Fear, said, "The Fairgrounds usually gets between 5,000 and 7,500 people for their Halloween events, so audiences should expect to wait in line for a while before entering Fields of Fear. Dress warmly and be ready to be really, really scared."
Audiences will enter the Fairgrounds complex as "refugees" from a natural disaster. As they wait in line to pay their medical processing fee (buying their tickets!), members of the military will check them for signs of infection and gather them together in groups to be taken to safety. When the perimeter is broken and dozens of "the infected" begin to pour into the fairgrounds, audiences will be in a race against the clock to try and make it out of the fairgrounds alive!
"Obviously, this isn't an event for the whole family," said Palmer. "We are working very hard to make this a truly terrifying Halloween event. Our audiences need to be aware that we are making the performances very realistic and frightening, which means the show isn't suitable for children or those who are easily disturbed."
Even with that, Foran says, the event will be thrilling. "We have a group of great actors working on the event, and they have created an amazing range of characters and creatures for the show. If you love horror movies, and can take being scared, this is the show for you."
Bag&Baggage is Hillsboro's only professional theatre, and is the resident theatre company at The Venetian Theatre in downtown Hillsboro. More information on the company, and on The Fields of Fear, can be found online at www.bagnbaggage.org.

This show is great! Far better than any typical “screamer” haunted house where people in masks with fake knives jump out yelling “BOO!”. This isn’t about the easy scare; this is about the story, and the audience becomes part of that story. These people are actors, and it shows. They will scare you way better than any screamer mask, and send creeping chills up and down your spine.
