Post-concert Q&A with Professor Ye.

What does contemporary Chinese music sound like? An ancient dance tune of the Northern Han people … the musical flavor of the early Bashu region … a Datura-induced dream state … the sound of the zheng. Vitality, tenderness and color; a perfect musical complement to Portland Art Museum's epic China Design Now exhibition. Featuring the brilliant music of Jia Daqun, Chen Yi, and Professor Ye Xiaogang, the Beijing Olympics composer, joining us from Beijing for these performances. With guest zheng virtuoso Haiqiong Deng.

“Third Angle's China 'journey' began in 2001, when I came across an article in The New York Times describing the first class of graduates from the Beijing Conservatory, post-Cultural Revolution,” said Ron Blessinger, Third Angle's artistic director. “The stories of Chen Yi, Jia Daqun and Ye Xiaogang were incredibly moving, great testaments of total commitment to art.”
