Description of Activities:

Fiesta Plaza
Events from 10AM-5:30PM

To build awareness of Tualatin's rich Latino connections, and in keeping with the “Crawfish Fiesta” theme, a central plaza in the Festival ball field will focus on the expanding Hispanic presence in our community, particularly Mexico.  Thanks to sponsorship of Wade Rain Mexico and participation by Tualatin Library, Tualatin-Tigard School District students and parents, and several Latino organizations, Festival-goers will learn about traditional foods, arts, crafts and games. Ã‚  A Salsa Taste-Off will be conducted from 12 noon to 3 p.m. at the Plaza tent featuring salsas from local taquerias and restaurants.  Young children will break a pinata at the top of each hour.

The Plaza is coordinated and co-sponsored by Tualatin Tomorrow, the citizen-run long-range visioning commmittee which promotes several goals for increasing multicultural understanding in our community. Wade Rain Mexico is a subsidiary of Wade Manufacturing whose headquarters is in Tualatin.  The company sells irrigation equipment worldwide.

Tualatin has an historic tradition of welcoming persons with roots in other parts of the world, beginning with the original Atfaliti Indians who accommodated European American immigrants in the 1800s. Chinese laborers called Tualatin home when building two railroads through the city. Japanese family farms were a major employer of Tualatin youth for decades.  Now, Latino-owned businesses are commonplace. Tualatin High School's MeCHA student organization to promote Latino heritage will be assisting at the Plaza. Manuel Trujillo, first Latino school board member for Tigard-Tualatin School District, will be available to answer questions, particularly about the District's English Language Learning (ELL) programs in local schools.

Lancette Memorial Ride
Since 1985, Clackamas Women's Services has safely sheltered over 7,000 women and children within the walls of our two shelters. The shelters represent something that many of its residents have not experienced for a very long time-a home that is safe and welcoming, a place of refuge, not a place of fear.  To learn more about CWS

"The Lancette Memorial Ride is the vision of the firends and family of avid cyclist Teresa Wilson Beiser who tragically lost her life on November 10, 2009. In order to bring something positive to this tragic situation, these friends decided to create this ride and partner with CWS as a way to both support our organization and inform people about issues surrounding domestic violence.

This “self sponsored” event created the Friend's of Teresa to give our community the opportunity to join us in honoring this amazing woman as well as support the Clackamas Women's Services. It's impossible to read Teresa's story, learn about the out come of domestic violence without being moved. Don't think that your donation is to small. Donate $25, $50 or even $1,000, every bit helps. This is a tax deductible donation."
